Mourinho is a legend. I was hoping they ask him to compare between his Real Madrid and the current squad. He definitely remembered losing the semi finals against Bayern and Dortmund. We can feel it through his answer. That's when Real Madrid deserved at least 2-3 UCLs but got knocked out. Real Madrid needed only 1 goal against Klopp's Dortmund to go to the final. ¡HALA MADRID! but let's be honest: ancelotti got it wrong in the first half. he thought he could land an early knockout against dortmund. the press with the wingers? playing bellingham on the wings? overloading both wingers on the same side? totally vacated the middle. absolutely abandoned the midfield. came out in the second, dropped the wingers, rotated bellingham to the tip of the spear (at least occasionally, but almost exclusively in the middle of the field), compacted the back line and the midfield, played a double pivot and then the 6-8-would be-10 in traditional roles, it changed everything. don't know why he didn't make the change earlier, as it was obvious that dortmund was better prepared in the first, but he finally cleared it up in the second. all those sore brits on the telly. guess this means the UCL is a farmer's league lol
There’s those managers who ruin things a lot and those who don’t do much . He could have landed an early knock out against dortmund and the first 5 were dominated by Madrid, tactically and specially recovering the ball!! Then dortmund got their first quick transition and saw the holes. Maybe he got it wrong, maybe dortmund got it right, Madrid have been playing with an overloaded left side throughout the whole season, Mendy doesn’t go as far as Carvajal, everything shifts… he’s been playing that asymmetry with vini Rodrigo forever, and gave Ryerson a nightmare. The biggest change I saw was that cama and Fede positioning changed slightly and vini took the wing (mainly for defensive purposes) cos Bellinghams positioning is way better blocking lines etc and dortmund transitions needed of vinis pace. Whatever it is…. The changes were made right in time… again, Carlo does always say that there are 2 managers , those who don’t do much and those who ruin things. He’s also big on clarity of instructions, if the adjustment is substancial, which in this case it was, it makes sense to hold up. Really figure out what’s up, get the players input. and I think that’s the key for the timing of the adjustment. And if it had been made earlier, who knows if Madrid could have got caught out on the transition to the new system…. A big example of this was taking Adeyemi off for Reus when adeyemi was their biggest threat… then vinis goal came from a backward pass from Reus
