- Let me show you what it takes to live in a tiny trailer.
How tiny? Try 65 square feet.
As Tiny Living grows in popularity, the dwellings are shrinking smaller. In this video, come with me as we tour my 2015 Scamp 13. It's a classic fiberglass trailer with everything you'd need for a comfortable life on the road or at home.

Way cool! I keep finding myself toying with the idea of getting a Scamp to pull behind my T100. Thanks for the tour!
I can't recommend it enough. Thanks for watching!
Wow The Most Wonderful I have Seen YOU DID A REMARKABLE JOB TO LIVE IN IT IS SO GREAT❤😂🎉😊
I Love it! And it has the Essentials, Plus the Cuteness Factor! Think I might add an A/C, Heater, and somewhere, place a microwave. Would like to get a little bigger fridge, 3.1 that has a separate freezer for convenience to Really boon dock in style! I think they r So cute, but alas, my tiny Nissan Versa Note, will have to be traded in for a larger vehicle in order to haul, safely. I understand it can affect your brakes, etc. Don't want to place unnecessary undue stress upon my vehicle for sure! But it's definitely on the Wish List, 'ENJOY'! ♥️
Thanks for stopping in, Barbara! I love it. It's just the right size and I pulled it with my jetta sportwagon (which I recently sold) and now pull it with a honda crv. A/C and a heater would be really helpful additions, I'd recommend those! It might be tough for a Versa Note but take a look at the tow capacity. You never know. Happy trails!
Nice. Use a 12V mode refrigerator setting only when driving. Switch to propane soon after arriving at a campsite. The house battery will go dead after two hours if not switched to LP. Absorption refrigerators are extremely inefficient when switched to 12V. On propane, the same fridge can run for almost a month on a 20 lb propane tank.
Great reminder, Jerzy. It got me once or twice in the early days... total amateur move. Now I almost strictly use propane for the fridge.
extra points for the one handed foot assist dinette drop.
Props, thanks bro.
Thank you for sharing! Love these little trailers! Hope to see you traveling videos soon! God bless, be safe!
Thanks Carolyn! We're finally thawing out up here in new england so I'll be out on the road again soon. Same to you!
It is so cute! Thanks for the tour. I am thinking I could only live it one if I was by myself. You have it all set up perfect for you
it's a little tight with more than 1... i guess it depends on how much you like your traveling mate!
@@alexdtucker UTubers Elsa & Barron live full time in a 13' Scamp. They have a small wood burning stove for heat. It seems to work well.
@@jameswilson9019 thanks James, love those guys. They have a great little setup. With the bathroom setup I haven't yet found a way to make a stove fit. Maybe one of these days I will.
THANKS….good review!! 👍🏻❗️
I want something like this, since im a traveling nurse. Wonder if its allowed at rv parks for *extended stays.
I work in film and I take it for long shoots and rent an extended stay at RV parks. So if the weather is relatively mild then I think it's a great way to bring home with you wherever you're working.
Cool 👍🏼 I was planning a world bicycle tour when covid hit. Now Americans can’t travel overseas... so i was thinking of buying a Scamp & traveling around the US. Compared to an airstream basecamp, the Scamp is very economical.
I highly recommend it. Like you said, it's quite economical comparatively and so much lighter to haul. Still thinking of doing your bike tour some day?
What is the weight of the whole thing?
How big is the freshwater tank? 9 gallons? The full length is really 13 feet including the tongue? Thanks
great from california
I used to have an 89 Scamp 13' and I'd love to have another. Prices are out the roof right now, so I don't see it happening soon.
The prices have gone crazy on these things. Unfortunately people wizened up to them. I hope you find a great one on the used market one day! Happy trails.
@Something to Consider yes, for new ones, but I was looking at used ones.
I am thinking of getting us a 13 foot scamp with the bathroom debating whether to get the furnace or not.... you say it stays pretty warm ...could I do well with just a small 350 W heater plugged into a separate portable battery unit on a very cold winters night inside scamp ....I mean below freezing?
Hey scott! If I'm ever on site with power I'll use a small space heater and it works well to keep the space comfortable. And if you had a batter that could give it power long enough I'm sure it could work. That being said, I've never spent more than a few days in below-freezing temps so I couldn't tell you how long that would be comfortable for. In the future I'll be installing a small RV diesel furnace for longer term cold weather. I'm hoping that gives a good solution.
Good
Hey I just started living in a scamp! Thanks for the tour! I'm now on a farm in Colorado with some nice people and I don't wanna keep moving the trailer to a dump station with the blackwater tank...curious if you have any sh**ty ideas for how to just go in the trailer without using the blackwater tank. ;)
Hi. I say line the toilet with a bag. Sit and go. Tie the bag and trash it (just like a diaper or dog poo bag).
@@DavidMedina4All haha thank you, I was doing that but was having a hard time finding a garbage can in which to safely and responsibly dispose of it in j tree desert!
@@kpruitth what if it’s biodegradable... can it be placed in a hole 🕳 , covered with dirt?
@@DavidMedina4All tried that but now am in the desert and can't do that, coyotes dig it up and thrash the trash everywhere, haha!
@@kpruitth 😲 💩 🙈
Any chance you could show us the storage under the seats?
Because there is a bathroom in this model, the space under the seats are taken up by water tank and the water heater.
Yeah, that's the biggest loss with having the bathroom, you lose the seat storage to the fresh water tank on one side and the hot water tank on the other.
Hello, I do have a quick question about living in a scamp 24/7. How are you dealing with formaldehyde within the rv? I live in an area where it snows so its not like I can have a window open all the time to keep the airflow moving. I am just worried about long term health effects if I am in the scamp dayily.
Hey Lilly, It's a great question and can definitely be a challenge. If temps are below freezing then that makes it difficult to crack the window for ventilation. My hope is to install a diesel rv heater for next winter season. These use air circulation to help cut the humidity and circulate fresh air. Other than venting periodically I haven't found any ways to make it work.
How much did it cost you?
Praxis?
The guy slim potato Head from Canada have one too and he is on TH-cam
we live that way over year
Impressive, Ken. It's a simple way of living.
Hi again. How long and wide is the bathroom?
Hey again SIM, it's about 3'x5' but it's quite short on headroom. The shower drain drops down about 6 inches which gives enough headroom for me to wash (I'm 5'11").
Hi. Can I trouble you, by asking what is the weight of your scamp?
Hi there! The model I have when dry (very little supplies/gear and no water or waste is 1200lbs with a 200lb tongue weight. My car has a 1600lb tow limit so I very rarely tow it with water and am mindful of the supplies I carry.
As for the bathroom: It's quite small. The shower has a 6 inch recess in the floor to give more height when showering, about 6'2" in total. It's about 3' wide and about 4' long (I don't recall the actual dimensions). Enough to fit a toilet w/black water tank, shower area, and small hand sink.
@@alexdtucker Does the little sink get in the way when you're showering? Would it be better to order the shower without the sink?
@@Bostonbob3 That is a great question. Personally I almost never use the bathroom sink and if I was ordering from scratch I wouldn't even order one. I use the kitchen sink for all hand washing and toothbrushing- it's larger and more convenient. I think if you were living with 2 people that might be helpful to have a 2nd option but for me 1 sink would be enough.
At the end. “What’s your tiny dream?” A girlfriend that is under 200lbs
this is so cool! so does the ceiling have some type of carpet on it or something? (thats what it looks like lol) and i think it had that same material in the shower? i could be totally wrong 😂😂
Thanks Trav, yes it is actually. It's the same soft, carpet-like material over the whole place.
It's marine headliner. Water and mold resistant. And keeps the inside from getting covered with condensation. Goes by the lovely name of "rat fur." Old Scamps used a version called "elephant hide" that was smoother, but more expensive and not quite as effective at eliminating condensation.
@@Bostonbob3 Thanks for the help, Bob. Yeah, it does a pretty great job at cutting down on condensation.
Thanks, I was wondering the same thing.
That's a brilliant little home. Are you living in it full time?
Thanks Daniel & Charleen! It's a wonderful home on wheels. I only wish I could take it with me to SA for some real camping. I spend long stretches in it, weeks to months, but I do have a home that I return to. So, technically, not full time... Sssh.. I'm cheating. Don't tell anyone.
Yoga mat WOW
With all that storage, couldn't you find room for a razor?
No supplies, plenty of unused storage, ironed shirt, you don't live in that, that's your fort.
I might be partial but it's a pretty great fort though!
