@@rammy3767the synchro sleeve basically puts the car in gear when it goes on the synchro, worn out synchros could basically make the synchro sleeve disconnect when accelerating or deceleration therefore taking it out of gear or slipping out of gear while normal driving
we have the same case... just yesterday, was about to park in a mall but all of a sudden my reverse is not engaging. it keeps popping out every time i press the pedal it goes back to neutral.. brought it to a shop and told me it was the synchros as well. 😢 mine is a 2015 WRX btw.
Nah cause in neutral engine driven lubrication isn’t pumped so not everything can get lubricated and can start to heat up things but I’m sure it won’t really matter too much but in the long run it might wear some parts faster
This ended up being the synchros
but why would it be synchros? its not like you’re synchronising to the next gear, its just staying in first.
@@rammy3767 idk 🤷♂️ but Subaru fixed it and that’s what was wrong it wouldn’t hold in 1st gear when going on a slight downgrade
@@DanielLopez-xd6gy cars are so confusing
Wow my first thought was the shifter fork. This happens when you rest your hand on the shifter. Interesting that it’s the syncros.

First gear is not meant to coast down the hill it’s only meant to start moving the car from stationary
Same thing happens to me. Typically I just throw it into neutral and coast downhill or shift into 2nd.
1st gear is a starting gear, the ratio is to fast to let the transmission decelerate in first. Also check your mounts
Damn I thought I was the only one 💀
Me too on 2nd gear
Stop ricing it in 1st. Solves lots of problems
😂😂😂
I riced it in 4th and lost it lol 😂 covered by warranty lol
100% synchros happened to me in 6th until I got the whole thing replaced.
Lol it’s like, no first gear for you 😂
Mine does it in reverse, all other gears stay in but it throws out reverse sometimes any idea why ?
No clue man mine ended up being the synchros not sure how/ if that applies to the reverse gear.

You by chance been beating on that rex and power shifting often?
Not at all I bought the car pre-owned so maybe the previous owner
I’d make sure it’s not the pitch stop mount
how much miles does your Subaru have
The car had around 60k miles around this time
Post more if you got em!
That's a Shift cylinoid.d my man.
No it was the synchros at least that’s what Subaru said and that’s what they repaired. Solved the issue.

Whats the mileage of this car?
trans specifically
Throw out bearing aka release bearing.
No. Synchros lol
Definitely not the release bearing 😆😭 there is back cut teeth on the synchro ring to keep it in gear lol
Who on earth is engine breaking. Your car is attempting to save you money.
Mine did that too in first, I just thought I was going too fast
After a few weeks mine started doing it in 2nd gear too
Same happens to me
how much did it end up costing to fix
Fortunately this was covered under warranty at the time however the invoice was for about $5k I believe
Thats definitely bad synchros
Throw out bearing
John Flanagan dung ding ding we have a winner
Yep, theyre a very common issue on the 15+wrx
Interesting. The throw out bearing went out on my 16 but never did this. Just the typical noise when clutch wasn't engaged.
I've had one scenario where it wasn't and it ended up being my synchronizer
What was the price to fix that?
It’s sincros
U destroyed that transmission
Not really lol bought the car used

Cause your going down hill in 1st gear. Learn how to drive manual
Ya your not supposed to engine break in first. Unless you're starting in first then letting gas off with it in gear.
Who uses first gear for anything but going from 0 - roll
100% stop using 1st to brake your car! Brakes are cheap and easy. Transmissions are hard and expensive. Easy
@@chadparker1366 this is what I was doing I wasn’t down shifting
Dude just get an STI. Lol so much better
