Why not mount a pony motor with a high output alternator so the battery gets a constant regulated charge, sure would eliminate a lot of frustration and wear and tear on expensive batteries.
And though you have good glow plugs it is starting so bad O_o, but one has to recognize that this one is 45 years old, in that age it's allowed to be a bit sleepy in the morning
2 new batteries yesterday new alternator a week or two before that I changed the fuel filters in it last week grease it once every other week and check all the fluids every day I operate it
You gotta remember these big old industrial diesels when really cold take ages to warm up. Their so solidly built with so much iron it takes God knows how many starting attempts just to get the combustion chambers hot enough to sustain combustion. They will outlive anything made today though!
I watched that engine about pull the crane on its side when they was dropping it in , very heavy , the old one poked a rod out the side after a hard days work with no warning it just let go all at once , they are very good engines but when they go they go big lol
Nice to see the old girls still plugging way! These big old diesels never die, just get more cranky and smokey.
yeah this one is very old and tired but as long as you can get it to bang off it runs like a new one after it warms up
An ether free engine that's really nice to see, to that crap is just nasty.
I love the smoke rings.
What a frigin beast
Dam thing starts like a Ford 7.3 idi when it's cold
The batteries and starter take a beaten getting the beast fired up
every time
Makes some wicked smoke rings.
That a hold in the window man it must be cold
Keep up the vids matt
will do buddy :)

very nice cold start. Why don't you use starting fluid? don't want to?
glow plugs don't like starting fluid
@@MattsMadnessOfficial I know, but it is a big engine.
@@JoshKilen give it just a little shot of starting fluid and it just kicks back and backfires through the intake
@@MattsMadnessOfficial true.
Give it a little gas so the engine doesn't stop all the time 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
Tell me you know nothing about diesels without telling me you know nothing about diesels you go first.......
