i love the knocking and coughing and then it sputters enough to keep spinning and it catches and roars up real quick and drops down to idle, just like music to me, they all sound so different but good in their own way
4440 were good tractors. We had 2 of them. Both had 27000 hours on them when we sold them. Essentially they were never in the shop for repairs however they were stored in a heated shop and had no cold starts. I don’t know how many sets of tires that they wore out. They still looked like new even after 40 years of hard work
The neighbors probably thought someone was popping extra large popcorn LOL, nice tractor, I always loved them 44 and 50 series tractors, especially the 5020.
I love how them old Deeres rev way up on start up, I used to work on a ranch with a 4650 and a 4430, I straight piped the 4430 and loved the way it sounded
I farmed seed potatoes back in the 90's and had a 4255 with a straight pipe. I would have the pipe pointed the other way but when digging time came around I would turn it around so it was pointing towards the truck that was loading. I would dig at 1000 rpm and the old girl sounded so sweet lugging down. The guys driving tuck would always have their window rolled down to listing to her grunt and the turbo!! What a sweet sound
@@Jschultzy21 They work good, yes, but they are not as fuel efficient, as silent in the drivers cab, as easy to operate, dont have as good suspension as a modern tractor has, no GPS, no Radio, no A/C etc... For me its quite important that I can work 12hours+ on a machine without having backpain...
Hey Joe I worked for Vineyard Oil and Gas in Northeast, PA. I also worked for Buford Drilling in Clodine,TX. Really miss it. Worked with a bunch of great guys.
Nowadays, they are putting efforts on liberal ideology (feminism, gay rights, diversity...) kind of stuff that a farmer does not and will never give a fuck about
My son was watching videos, and as soon as I heard that from the other room, I was 12 yrs old again freezing my as$ off with my Grandfather. Man, I miss that .
got a JD 2355. minus 20 celsius today and need to find the air intake. No obvious pipe like that tractor has, sadly Would love to get some ether in there somehow. Can`t tell where!
He has aim with the start pilot. A really cool and nice old tractor because he has a low and long start but when he is warm is sound is pure music in my ears
Great tractor, I grew up on a JD 4440, still in the family farm too and running strong. Also, great to see auction values for JD 4440 increased a little over 2% in 2018 and almost 7% in 2019. 30 years and running! @
I love how John deeres start all loaded up sounding then it catches its breath right before it idles. Is there a reason they all do that? Seems like they the only engine that does that
Why aren’t we using the manual fuel pump primer? Even with an old case front end loader I would always prime the fuel system before attempting a coldstart, saves on the ether a little easier on the equipment. Also, Diesel engines were designed to use starting fluid, that’s why they put an ether button in the cab and a place to install the can.
Fun fact...John Deeres make less power when straight piped. Odd but true how do I know? I worked at a jd dealership and dynoing was part of the winter inspection and proved 2 to 5 hp less than with the factory muffler.
you know I got a real problem with all these people talking like they no something and how bad ether is . get your facts strait these old John deeres were designed to use ether on to the point they even put a convenient button on the dash so u don't gotta reach out the cab there is absolutely nothing what so ever using it when used properly
Been using either for years to start everything from my lawn mower to the 6.9 International. In fact, use ether to crank the 6.9 every single Coke start (needs injectors). No cracked pistons here...
Ether is absolutely fine for Diesel engines when used properly, the misconception comes from people being told not to use it on engines that have intake grid heaters, like Cummins... the ether will ignite in the intake
Reminds me of a 4450 I ran hauling a manure tanker, love those old Deeres! But I have to ask, why wouldn't you just park it where you could plug it in?
Man.... block heater or not I love the way that tractor sounds with the straight pipe as it spools up to finish out in a smooth idle. I could probably just sit there and listen to it as it warms up for about ~ 5-10 mins give er a take. peace P.S No ether please... bad stuff for a diesel, not even a little bit of the stuff just saying
Sg1 have the best seats ever I loved both my 4440s the only thing I didnt like was the door striker always caught my shorts pocket and ripped them to pieces.
The 425 dislikes are from AOC's alt accounts
I dislike her immensely but I came here to escape from politics.

That turbo sounds amazing, this is one of the best

Built to last brother
Love that sound! We had a 4440 on the farm years back. Music to my ears.
Probably one of the best tractors Deere ever made. I've got one with 6,000 hours on the clock and it just keeps going...
6000 hours is nothing for a tractor but yea its one of the best tractors deere made
Bruh my 4455 has 29.000 and it is running good
Those deere mechanical pumps love the Rev up and fall back down and idle
that turbo is just straight up sexy!
Aiden Hubbs q1q
Like me lol
They must awake all of 6 cylinder .. but yes it sounds Great ....thanks from denmark
1:43 is where it gets up so good
The neighbors probably thought someone was popping extra large popcorn LOL, nice tractor, I always loved them 44 and 50 series tractors, especially the 5020.
5020 had nothing to do with either of those series of JD tractors
I love how them old Deeres rev way up on start up, I used to work on a ranch with a 4650 and a 4430, I straight piped the 4430 and loved the way it sounded
You get it going it’ll fire up on its own. You here the injector get goin it’ll just fire to life. Gotta love the injector pumps on the Deeres
always loved hearing these things spool up
Love the 4440 it's the working man's tractor for sure.
It just started itself there lol. Man I love the old John Deere 40 series such neat tractors.
Could listen to that all day man!!! Thanks for sharing a cold start of my favorite john deere
Same we are thinking about getting one but there hard to find in good condition and with a Reasonable price
Nice old school Deere, with a tolerant battery!
I grew up on 2 4440 jd and it brings back so many memories
One of the best cold startups I've ever heard
Nothing beat a good diesel cold start
Definitely on of the best looking John Deere out there they're my favorite
Riley is Dad your dream tractor?
In my opinion the 2955 is the best looking.
Best cold start I've ever heard.
Love the 55 series, best Deere ever made hands down
Love to have one

@@renislevasseur855 we have a 2955, it is a great day discing tractor,
I love when the turbo spools up!
Old diesels like these will outlast you. The new ones are just disposable unreliable pretty trash.
Every engine has mechanical wear. Even those old ones will die eventually.
@@heavyweight6440 yea but they the goat tractors (greatest of all time)

That was beautiful!!! Man tears leaked out of my eyes....
Back when I worked in the oil field in PA we used to add kerosene to the diesel to keep it from gelling.
+Rdrake1413 we've done that before
I work up here in Pa drilling horizontal gas wells.

+Rdrake1413 I don't think highly of Trump but I do think he's going to be good for business and I expect the gas work will come back to PA
I have never believed in any Politician. But hope he can bring jobs back from overseas.
I love our 4430. You can’t beat those tractors. John Deere put more effort into building those tractors than they do now
Nowadays, they are putting efforts on liberal ideology (feminism, gay rights, diversity...) kind of stuff that a farmer does not and will never give a fuck about
@@youssefsabiri3860 you sir, embodied all of John Deere in that one comment
I love our 2955, in the 30+ years we owned it has never failed.
That’s the best cold start I’ve ever seen on youtube
Blew the lift out of one of these a long time ago. Funnest day I ever had on the farm so far.

Very cool watching in Ireland 🇮🇪,

Dame old John Deere sound good none of that computer crap needed on that one and will run forever

30 and 40 series always had a hard time starting in the cold. The 20 series would fire right up.

Love the sound of a John Deere
lol, spray that ether in while you’re turning the key and bump the dang throttle once she’s going lol😂 love that sound so much
old school diesels, simple bosch pump, a little ether and start every time. No glow plugs required.
All time favorite cold start.
the fella starting looks like he has about the same amount of horse power! good lookin tractor!

Iron Horse! My grandpa loved his 4440

Wow that tractor put on a good show!
nothing like the sweet sound of a john deere turbo
Awsome that thing sounds like a tractor trailer
Damm thats a beast....nice tractor man
Gotta love that 7.6!
John deere for ever 😍
How did the tractor know to throttle down, after smoothing out?
I think it builds oil pressure or fuel pressure and runs smooth after that
I love how John deeres start all loaded up sounding then it catches its breath right before it idles. Is there a reason they all do that? Seems like they the only engine that does that
Great great work
😍😍😍What a Sound. Its Music in my ears

Colton Carpenter it might be 2 to 5 hp loss but the sound makes up for it 😉
Drew L does sound pretty cool. Similar sound to a Pratt Whitney radial firing up with the rough choppy idle
+Colton Carpenter That's interesting and not what you'd expect. Were you able to note what did make more power? What about fuel efficiency?
Less back pressure = less boost. Now if you upgrade to synthetic oils or get the turbo bearings coated with like MicroBlue.com IT WILL INCREASE BOOST!
Jason B other way around
Wow, that turbo!

Until you crack a couple pistons and your going " Why did I ever use ether.... DAMNIT!" and out a few hundred to a few thousand.
Been using either for years to start everything from my lawn mower to the 6.9 International. In fact, use ether to crank the 6.9 every single Coke start (needs injectors). No cracked pistons here...

Why do they rev up like that during a cold start?
It was cold. The governor needed to pick up the rpms to warm her up. It's the same concept when you put a load on the engine.
I would definitely plug my tractor in before i would start it like that. That is hard on it
