What amazes me is the commitment by the actors. It's all incredibly silly yet no one ever cracks a smile. I wonder what the table readings looked like!

For those who don’t know: Tokusatsu is a genre of Japanese shows and movies with heavy usage of practical and special effects. The fight scenes in this media are very stylized and flashy. Sometimes they involve colorful costumed heroes. The monsters are normally regular costumes and makeup with them being displayed as gigantic via miniature set pieces. The three biggest examples of Tokusatsu franchises are Kamen Rider, Ultraman and Super Sentai (which is more popularly adapted in the US as Power Rangers)
Another similar yet criminally underrated series worth checking out is _Guyver._ It's like a gritty & more darker alternative take on the japanese superhero/tokusatsu genre with dramatic & tragic twist. Storyline, themes & characters are also solid too imo
That's why I love tokusatsu, it can be dark and serious as well as just outright ridicules all at the same time and without breaking characters or story, it really is all at once and just epic
