- Many new characters are introduced in the course of the film. Its sequel, the three-part original video animation (OVA) series Legend of Crystania: The Chaos Ring, goes into the story in further detail. These episodes were released on VHS and DVD in North America by ADV Films.

I'm 50+ and i like this kind of historical fantasy animés from the Lodoss verse , old school type where a good story comes first and action/violence is 2nd. Viewing this every 6 months at least .... ☝️😊👌
I remember being a 12 year old child seeing this trailer in the ADV ads and wanting badly to watch this anime. Geez 90's anime are classics! I feel bad for children today, because for us 80's and 90's babies, anime was a mystery to be discovered and understand, because it was new and exciting for us back then, now today there's tons of anime trash. Oh how I miss the Golden Era of Anime. #Nostalgia.
I hear ya, back then It was a exciting and man was I pumped to go to suncoast video in the mall and buy anime VHS tapes. You really appreciated the stuff you watched and go into. Now it’s like quite a bit of watered down shows you have to sift through to find something worth watching. Maybe the novelty has worn off?
Don't feel too bad for 'em. As neat as the mystique behind a lot of anime works were back then, the difficulty of actually tracking stuff down or the scummy practices behind a lot of VHS releases only having a couple eps for a ridiculous price could really weigh the experience down. The ease of access today is ultimately a blessing, even if the thrill of hunting series, films and OVAs down has lessened.
1984-2000 was the Golden Age of Anime
2001-2009 was the Silver Age
2010-now is the trashy Bronze Age however,
As of 2018 there has been many independent animation studios and fanmade films that has recaptured the style and magic of the Golden Age anime. 2018- current is now the age of the Independent and fan-made anime, as well as the 1980s and 1990s anime are getting popular again.

Those were the days. Now I go to Movie Trading Co. , They have all the old school 1980s and 1990s anime from back in the day. Good times, good times!

"After Ryo Mizuno wrote the original seven novels of Record of Lodoss War, he went on to write a number of short stories and spin off novels. One of these was a four-volume novel series called "Legend of Crystania". The novels were planned to be adapted into a movie and an OVA series that would follow up on the movie and would wrap the story around Ashram, Pirotess and their followers. However, a number of problems occurred during the production process. One of the lead producers got arrested for some charges, the project was then halted, and before long the team was forced to rush production with a limited budget. The result is a series that is far too short to adequately tell the story how it was presented in four novels. The animation in some areas is great, whereas in others it is rather poor.
The story presented in the novels could have made for a great movie and OVA, but has instead failed to garner much love from the average Lodoss fan."

Surreal fantasy. Each scen introduces something new without context or explaination. The story is driven by emotions and the viewer's own creativity to understand what's going on. Unfortunately it's also the reason why there are so may characters asking "What is going on?"

It's a very showa thing. Straight out of my favorite Tokusatsu shows.
In 1986, it was the first time that a work was published as an introduction article of Table Talk RPG (TRPG) in PC magazine "Comptiq". The magazine replay of "Dungeons & Dragons" by this group SNE gained popularity to the world view, the story and the character as the series advances, and the result series became a favorable project continuing up to part 3 by changing the character.
Sword World / Record of Lodoss War / Crystania, These three titles are stories by region of "Forceria".
Really I knew Record of Lodoss War was in the same world as Louie the Rune Soldier just on a different continent. Didn't know something else was tied to it.

Right? Berserk is beginning to come around too. I still play soul's games...this was a real breath of fresh air, damn Madhouse hit Role-play hard. If I can only feel the same about their modern-day pronunciations instead of an Olde-English settler type. Still Awesome!

Funny you mentioned Record of Lodoss war. That sword in the Barbas' body was exactly the same as the sword of light in Lodoss war. :)

Not just connected, this can consider alter sequel of Lodoss War where Pirotess (main heroin) is still alive and finding a way to save Ashram from stasis status cause by a beast god, after the survivors of Marmo mirage to Crystania.
Well, Pirotess was redesigned so much in this OVA series look like some low ragtag dark elf, so you much don't recognize her
You should check out Rune Soldier as well as that is also connected as it takes place on alecrast, the continent north of lodoss. though it's more comedic than either.

Both Deedlet and Pirotess ki da get screwed living pretty much forever in torment over their lost loves. Ashram is not really the Anti-Parn he simply viewed his rather harsh action justified by the preservation of his people, it was a grim hard life.
Its like they had an entirely different director for Sheru, god damn.

Yeah, this was back in the day when voice actors weren't taken seriously..which meant a serious lack of talent to choose from.

On the other hand, the OVA dub is much better.
what do you mean this dub is really good. voices match characters age and emotion, unlike most current dubbed anime that completely takes the characters and dialogue out of context.
@@EnceliaActoni Do you have any examples? Because this is terrible. Different voices for different characters isnt a feature its a bare minimum. The delivery and tone of most of the voices is horrible.

Pirotess observed a lot of the history of Lodoss, so it weirds me out when she doesn't correct the priest's pronounciation of the emperor's name, called Beld throughout his lifetime in other english dubs.
My thoughts as well. I struggled to get through the dub of Crystania because of all the inconsistencies.
It's mainly do to this being brought over by AD not US Manga which brought over Lodoss War.
I also would take into account that several centuries have passed since she and Ashram arrived in Crystania.. or she really didn't care about Beld like she does for Ashram and just didn't feel like correcting him. I know none of this is ever mentioned or touched upon, but the way she acts with her one track mind when it comes to Ashram, it wouldn't be too far fetched.

@@adamflux2 I figured that made more sense then just calling the translators idiots. I don't remember where I heard this, but I remember an article that said if someone from the past, say 300 years ago or more, time travelled to our time communication may be difficult even though he spoke English. Problem being his form of English would be drastically different from ours considering the decades of slang and grammar changes each generation introduces to the language.

In the OVA record of Lodoss war, she did. However In record of Lodoss war: Chronicles of the Heroic Knight, She does not. The Chronicles Series is suppose to follow the manga more closely than the OVA.
I would Recommend watching the OVA up to epsidioe 8 (i think) where Karla is defeated and then watch chronicles of the heroic knight. It's the best way to get most of the story, though there are some continuity errors. Then you should watch the Crystania Movie and then the 3 episodes.

@@jeremyhall2727 I mean, I like having a fantasy anime where not EVERYTHING is fight 100% of the time or has a garry stew character, or the tsundere slap stick approach. Life isn't always fights. I feel like the modern anime watchers are too hung up on that. Like no appreciation for the small things in life or just taking time to enjoy the world around them.

@@bodhi_bear2878 I find dubs ruin the experience, especially older anime, completely unwatchable in most cases. Unless its something like Ghost Stories, then the dub is the only one worth watching.
