greetings from Finland, i have also Smith Premier no.10 that has issue that i cant figure out. the carriage gear does not move when i press key. everything else seems to work with this typewriter. Do you have any idea where to search the problem? i´ve tried to find solution but i havent had luck. The left bottom button moves the Gear atleast.
Hello, if your Smith Premier No. 10 typewriter is not functioning properly, there could be several reasons. I'll upload a video with English subtitles to help you diagnose the issue. First, try operating the carriage to see if it moves smoothly when detached. If there is rust or an issue with the carriage rail, it may not move smoothly. Secondly, please check if the mainspring is not rusted or damaged. If it has severely rusted, it may lead to a damaged mainspring arbor. Thirdly, check if the gearbox is not rusted or stiff due to lack of lubrication. This is part of the gear and mainspring ribbon mechanism and can be quite challenging to disassemble for non-experts.
@@ktypewriter i lubricated every moving part yesterday with Wd40 to kill rust , i think there might be error in gearbox, when pressing normal key, something is not releasing one "step" in on maingear. The mainspring works , well atleast it takes the tension and it can be released... i could make a video of my typewriter issue for you if it helps to find the problem. Thank you for the reply btw.
