For my taste best FX6 setup for run and gun just... FX6 from the box. You need just take it from the package and it get ready. No need for any accessories, cages, batteries or monitor. Just camera and shotgun mic.
I rigged mine only for staged sets, when I use Angineux PL lenses, external monitor, transmitters, time code, fiz motors, V-mount etc.
For everything else just pure lightweight FX6 with autofocus Sony 24-105 or Leica M lenses if I need more pleasant images.
There’s always something so satisfying about watching someone rig their camera haha. Awesome video man 🙌🏾

really like your patient step-by-step instructions for your lean build! You might speed up the space in between critical areas. Also it would be helpful if you had listed the parts and links for purchasing them. That way you might have helped yourself to a bit of kickback and it would make it easier to find the exact cable lengths, etc.... Great job!

Curious what you may use the rails for in that setup since they weren’t used in this build. They’re there but serve no purpose. You just having it prepped for a follow focus or a rail-mount matte box? Just curious. Love the setup. Always good to have a good “run and gun”.

What is the advantage of this FX6 rig over a canon XF605 for R&G work?
I personally haven’t ever used the xf605 but after looking at specs, the fx6 would be better for the reasons of the variable nd filter over specified stops nd on the xf605, ProRes raw external recording, 4k all the way up to 120 frames per second, interchangeable lenses which would allow for lenses with wider apertures for low light, dual base iso at 12,800 for low light shooting, etc.

What do you plan on using those rails for or are they simply for stablizing the base?
They are their for times when needing to add a follow focus, teleprompter, matte box, or lens support!

Do you use the 70mm a lot shooting from hand? Im really missing the Image Stabelisation for this, and I find catalyst to time consuming as I have to analyse every clip induvidually? Hows your experience with this?
Definitely usable especially if you are shooting higher frame rates!!

Is the fx6 really that much better than the fx3
I’ve had my FX6 for a bit over a month now and there is plenty that it does that the FX3 doesn’t. Both are great cameras but, for the work I do, I’ll go to my FX6 every time

Is the image on the camera monitor not upside down with this set up?
Never mind, it's just a button you switch on the monitor to rotate the image.

What’s the lens mount for that lens?
Whatever that lens mount is, you’ll want to find an adapter that goes from that to Sony e mount

Added them because it’s pretty typical that I’ll switch over to cine primes and from there I add a follow focus for a first AC and also to be able to add a mattebox!
