Matt, if you ever plan on doing a "What Happun" on the Resistance series, please let me know. I'm a huge fan of the series and I've done extensive amounts of research on it. I will be willing to help you out for free. You don't have to pay me back in anyway. I just want more people to know about this series. There was some shaky development for R2 and R3. I've watched EVERY episode of Insomniac's "Full Moon Podcast" where they talk about the development cycle for all 3 games. I'm a DIE-HARD fan of the series. I've beaten every title on Superhuman difficulty and know all the secrets. I pray we get a remaster one day, but it is highly unlikely.
Yeah of all the PlayStation franchises that have come and gone Resistance is the one I miss the most. I would love a remake that doubled down on more of a war-horror feel. I loved the sheer spectacle of the second game and the giant bosses you fight in it but I think fighting a scaled down war more like the first game would be way better. The setting of the first was incredible, it was pretty scary at times especially with those zombie-like dudes who'd grab you. The plot was always the weakest link for me but mostly with 2, it was just dumb how Hale ignored those inhibitor shots. Would have been better if it was an option and if you passed on them too much you'd get the bad ending.
I've seen someone else say this but quickly wanted to say that Resistance 3 was woefully underrated. Fantastic shooter with environments and gameplay that seriously reminded me of a Half Life 2 level of experience. Easily one of the best shooters on the ps3.
The only downside to 3 was the blur from the shit AA implementation and over-the-top vignette and film grain. But that technically was how you knew you were playing a PS3 game
@@cl2521 The low FOV was *my* main issue with it (but the blur is also bad--looking at YOU, Killzone sequels)--I always felt like my view was zoomed in a bit too far. Still a fantastic game tho.
“He doesn’t even know what they are.” Matt, you should know by now that we Americans can’t be bothered to learn about things we directly encounter on a regular basis.
Yeah. All of the resistance games feel like knock offs of better shooters. 1 is halo, two is COD, and 3 is Half Life 2. R3 is a pretty good clone of the HL2 formula.
Not particularly huge into FPS games but I've been hearing so many good things about 3 and it's from my favorite developer so I'm definitely going to give R3 a shot one of these days.
@@TerrorOfTalos I’d recommended it Innovates on the shooter formula in inter testing ways - guns level up the more they use them, rather than vendors and loot (the alternate fires can be nuts). Also one of the last shooters made to have campaign with full split screen :(
@@kenterminateddq5311 resistance never really pulled halo numbers. Resistance as a brand was successful, but not *that* successful. Remasters only really happen ether when it’s a cult classic or a nostalgic sales juggernaut. Also Insomniac got that stable Spider-Man gig at this point that there probably too busy to do so.
Resistance Fall of Man was Insomniac's first mature title in awhile, since Ratchet & Clank and Spyro, so this had the standard FPS trappings at the time, So, when you said Uncharted 2 kicked off the PS3's popularity, it gave other PlayStation exclusives the needed push, with Resistance 2 and 3 being MUCH better because of it (Also it adopted Ratchet & Clank's weapon wheel, that Spider-Man now has). God I miss it, I had too much with Resistance 3, I know like with Guerrilla with Killzone, Insomniac moved on, but it would be nice to see a remaster at least.
First and third are the best ones. Played through the whole trilogy back to back probably five or six years ago. Those were the ones that stuck with me.
This game got in trouble with Church of England at launch due to it having Manchester Cathedral in the game. Anyway, I hope they port these to PS4 or 5 (and PC) so they're not stuck on a non x86-64 architecture. Just change the trophies in 2 tho, 10k online kills is a bit much.
I absolutely love how post-Ratchet-&-Clank this game is. Playing it feels like a late-PS2-era game but with better visuals, y'know? The Chimera were so rad
That's the most American looking York I've ever seen, I'm also really impressed the American's managed to land in the mid East of England and the Resistance troops got stuck in Manchester which is on the mid west... meaning they went all the way around the uk, into the North Sea instead of just, you know, landing on the west coast which is closer... Almost like they just picked city names that Americans might have heard and plastered them on to pre-existing assets they had kicking around.
It's also in a timeline where the standard-issue rifle for the US military in 1951 is something recognizable as an assault rifle with an under-barrel grenade launcher. Much less impressive than the VTOLs, but when you consider that the first modern assault rifles began to enter service in the late 1950s, the M203 grenade launcher only appeared in the late 1960s, and this is set in an alternate timeline where there was never a WW2 to spur weapons development, it's actually a little impressive.
One of my favorite games ever. I got the PS3 at launch and this game blew me away. One of the only games my dad and I beat together.. I'd love for a remake/remaster of the trilogy.
*Only just got his second weapon, assumes the game has a 2 weapon limit* You know the sad thing is matt, it's not that you're wrong, it's that the second game actually does have a 2 weapon limit. it's one of the reasons why 2 is a bad game. the gimmick with this series was that it continued the ratchet and clank series' focus on unique weapons. all of your guns have alt fire mode and special abilities. 1 is ok, 2 is bad, 3 is honestly pretty good but no one played it unfortunately.
It’s honestly held much better than I imagined. For a PS3 launch title it’s not half bad, really. Compare this with the Perfect Dark Zero from the 360 launch and it’s night and day.
Fun fact! Insomniac nearly got sued by the Church of England because of a mission taking place in Manchester Cathedral when this game released. They claimed it was a breach of copyright (due to the fact the one in-game was a 1-1 recreation), and also that it was desecration of holy ground via the firing of weapons in it. Ya know, despite the fact it wasn't fucking real. Sony basically went "It's not real, and it's also 1950's Manchester, not modern Manchester, so piss off." And they basically did, after realising that Sony's legal team would probably eviscerate them. Oh, and then one of the Devs said there'd be more "Churches, mosques and synagogues!" in the next game when it was announced, which is a tad...tasteless.
Holy wow, its been years since ive seen Resistance. I remember my parents getting this game and the second for me on Chrismas bundled with a controller and remember thoroughly enjoying these game. Unfortunate that I never got to play the third one.
The first game had a lot of weapons I liked the idea of, but the level design was rather dull for the most part and the overall weapon feel could be improved. I think this is because it was the first game, and so on a technical level and conceptual level they had yet to perfect it. The second game improved on a technical level, but the level design often felt overly restrictive and the gameplay was unfortunately "CoDified", with a two weapon limit and entirely regeneration based health system that felt like they were solely there because it's what a popular game did. It feels like they should have had Resistance 3's style of gameplay by the second game and could probably refine it. Unfortunately it took until the third main series game to get it right, the story's not merely passible but actually good this time around, and the gameplay is at it's best. Throughout the series the Chimera feel like a generic mishmash of video game enemy tropes and were never really interesting as a whole, this was kind of a problem in 1 and 2, but in 3 the main characters make up for it as the story isn't really about the Chimera as it is their effect on the world. And overall the series felt like it took too long to get to the point it felt like it actually figured out what worked. There were good parts (there were lots of weapons in 1, all of which are distinct and on New Game+ you can get previously unusable enemy weapons to play around with too, 2 dropped the ULTRABROWN colour palette of the original and I liked the guy on the radio who would report on how life was going downhill throughout the game, and 3 is where the series figured out what the fuck to do with itself), I even liked the series enough to buy 1, 2 and 3, but god damn, the series took way to long to figure out what worked.
Most underrated game series ever! Resistance 2 was my favourite and this one is my least favourite. Please play them all Matt when you said "No one gives a fuck about resistance" in an old two best friends playthrough it hurt my soul this is my fave game series from when I was a teenager
High voltage, the irresistible sound, high voltage, bringing Man up and Falling them down, high voltage! When i hear Conduit, i think of that X-Files episode, the one with that kid with the psychic-power?
By far the best aspect of the resistance series was the creative weaponry. The Auger from Resistance 1 stands out, as well as the bullseye which let you tag enemies and shoot around corners. Resistance 3 was the best in the series by far and still holds up unlike 1 and 2 but it didn’t sell at all so I’m guessing the franchise is dead.
Resistance isn't the first FPS Insomniac did. In fact, their first title was Disruptor, a hidden-gem FPS on the original PS1. Spyro the Dragon was their second title. Also note, Nathan Hale is actually named after a famous American Revolutionary War hero.
My first ps3 game. I remember 100 percenting the hell out of it. There's fun weapons but for some reason some of them dont show up till a second playthrough. Like dual Chimera pistols in the 1st level. 3 definitely stepped it up, bringing in the Ratchet and Clank weapon EXP system so your shotgun can turn into a flaming shotgun, and more cool weapons like a lightning gun
I don’t know how you come up with so many one liners off the cuff. You have some of the only “Let’s Play” kind of videos I will watch because the jokes are so solid. When you played Alone in the Dark (360) and said something like “Are they making this game while I’m playing it”..I was dying.
This game is so good. So refreshing to have a fleshed out and pretty lengthy single player fps where you can hold all your weapons at one time and the weapons are unique and have secondary abilities. I don't give 2 shits about the story or characters. I literally skip all the cutscenes on each playthrough but the gameplay is so fun. And did you know that on a 2nd playthrough there are like 4 new weapons you get throughout the playthrough that are actually pretty cool. I was recently playing this game with my Dualsense controller
Resistance was a launch title for the PS3 and its really good, got a lot of 8s & 9s from reviewers. The semi-Sepiatone is really just a product of the era. The weapons are probably the best part of the game with cool secondary fire options.
I loved the Resistance series. It blew me away when I played it on my Phat PS3. Resistance 2 upped the ante with giant set pieces, better detail and improvements in gameplay. Resistance 3 left a bit of a sour taste in my mouth - we went from cool locations to blah Americana and brown tunnels. Doesn't matter, though. Had a blast playing them all. These games desperately need a remaster or a new entry to show them some love.
I love this game so much. Completed the Campaign with Split Screen co op and was my first gaming experience in 1080p (or 720p, can't remember what this game was) but it looked so amazingly smooth!!
Dang my sister and I loved this series so much, we played through the first and second game on co-op in every difficulty mode so many times. The gun creativity was super fun. Too bad when the third game came out we were both in college and couldn't play it as a couch co-op together.
This is one of the greatest shooter series EVER :), it doesn't only have great gameplay, unlike most other shooters, it has super interesting setting and lore
This game is the reason that I still keep my ps3. also Resistance: Fall of Man > Resistance 3 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Resistance 2(bad story, bad cod clone, not to mention riddled with bugs and frustrating sequences) Maybe I am the weird one by saying this but, I really miss the early years of the seventh generation era games. You could get easily excited for lots of interesting games like Resistance, Dead Rising, Lost Planet, Supreme Commander, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. etc. and not just for their graphics, but interesting settings and gameplay mechanics. I know there were also lots of bad games and that stupid "platform wars" stuff but, that was the time where my interest was piqued.
They knew better than to force you to pick between 2 Weapons in this game, you have a full Weapon Wheel to choose from as you go on. Then Resistance 2 came and they decided to stop knowing better.
This IS a pretty difficult game. Honestly, there's a point somewhere late in the game where it seems like it was MEANT to be played co-op, because it's almost impossible to beat solo.
I remember playing this game a long time ago and being blown away at how it looked and played since it was my first ps3 game. Geez it hasn't aged well.
I'm surprised Matt didn't know Resistance FOM was a 2006 PS3 launch title. Considering that and FPS games like Halo 3 and COD4 weren't out yet, it was a pretty damn good game for it's time!
Resistance 3 was really good. R1 was an undercooked launch title that had some fun weapons. It also had some pretty cool weapons unlocked by beating it once. R2 was...confused. I wish that I had played R2’s Co-op, as it seemed to be the most unique thing about it.
This was the big launch game for the system my dude! I'm still a massive fan of Resistance 2 in particular, it had genius multiplayer and an amazing story. The series kinda pulled a Mass Effect and forgot where they were going with the third game and sputtered out. Real shame, it was almost a big IP.
I was super into these games as a wee babby, in fact I remember Resistance: FoM being my first ever multiplayer FPS. It has uh... not aged the greatest, but they all still hold up as decent shooters imo.
Resistance 3 was were they reached their peak but I still find Fall of Man and 2 Solid Shooters. The only big problem with 2 is that it has a 2 weapon limit but aside from that, has some great setpieces, colourfull environements and creative weapons. Worth playing if you're interested
Resistance FoM was all about the multiplayer... Launch title for PS3 with 40 player matches, and dedicated servers. CoD never ran as well as this launch title.
Resistance 2 is probably the best of the bunch. A lot of people like 3 but if you played this one you might as well play 2 and see how things progressed.
I honestly really liked this series. The enemy designs were cool and it had some cool setpieces like the leviathan in 2 and the prison in 3. I know the set up is pretty cliched but i always enjoyed it. Even the PSP spin off
I did not like Resistance 1 or 2, but was surprised at how much I liked Resistance 3. 1 wasn't horrible, but I was pretty hyped for it the day I got my Ps3, and I just remember thinking it was... okay. I'd love to go back and give it and 2 another go, but I doubt a trilogy is going to come out anytime soon.
It takes time to get into the interesting levels and find the cool alien guns. The first game does not have a 2 weapon limit, and I loved the Auger. I hated Resistance 2, it pulled too much from Halo in the worst ways and gave up variety. I think Resistance 3 was better, but I never touched it.
Until he said the word killzone I had completely forgot they were different games and just assumed the sequels were in the future or something... I'm stupid
Resistance 2 was a cod clone and resistance 3 is a improved version of fall of man with a good story and the campaign is offline and online co-op compatible. I would recommend 3 instead of 2 to play next
F to Infamous and Resistance, and all 5 of us that wanted a fourth game.

Dang my sister and I loved this series so much, we played through the first and second game on co-op in every difficulty mode so many times. The gun creativity was super fun. Too bad when the third game came out we were both in college and couldn't play it as a couch co-op together.
The guy who did the voice for captain winters at the bus depot was spottswoode in team America :-)
I met a Veteran who fought in this war. He said the Aliens were only here to steal Cola as their engine fuel 🤷🏾♂️
This is one of the greatest shooter series EVER :), it doesn't only have great gameplay, unlike most other shooters, it has super interesting setting and lore
This game is the reason that I still keep my ps3.
also
Resistance: Fall of Man > Resistance 3 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Resistance 2(bad story, bad cod clone, not to mention riddled with bugs and frustrating sequences)
Maybe I am the weird one by saying this but, I really miss the early years of the seventh generation era games.
I wouldn’t mind more videos of you playing this .... highly entertaining
They knew better than to force you to pick between 2 Weapons in this game, you have a full Weapon Wheel to choose from as you go on.
Then Resistance 2 came and they decided to stop knowing better.
Man I used to love Resistance: Fall of Man! Multi-player
Genuinely forgot this AND Conduit existed. You're doing the Lord's work, Matt.
Making a Lore series about this game is totally worth it
This IS a pretty difficult game. Honestly, there's a point somewhere late in the game where it seems like it was MEANT to be played co-op, because it's almost impossible to beat solo.
Time to wait until Matt plays resistance 3
so many memories, I remember playing this with my best friend when local co op was a thing
Definitely check out Resistance 3. A bit of an underrated gem.
i've only played resistance 1 and 2. haven't gone back to finish it in 5 years tho.
Play the third one if you can, the best of the three.
Resistance 3 was really good. R1 was an undercooked launch title that had some fun weapons. It also had some pretty cool weapons unlocked by beating it once. R2 was...confused. I wish that I had played R2’s Co-op, as it seemed to be the most unique thing about it.
lol the no more OSW reference clearly Matt wants to be part of the boys stable
Man i hope they do a remaster of all 3 games on the ps4/5, heck add the handheld titles as well
This was the big launch game for the system my dude! I'm still a massive fan of Resistance 2 in particular, it had genius multiplayer and an amazing story. The series kinda pulled a Mass Effect and forgot where they were going with the third game and sputtered out. Real shame, it was almost a big IP.
lol this game looks like fun to make fun of
This and Need for Speed Carbon were the ps3 launch games, so experiencing this game was also experiencing a wireless controller for the first time 🤩
I was super into these games as a wee babby, in fact I remember Resistance: FoM being my first ever multiplayer FPS.
This was my first PS3 game on the OG PS3 model
"Steph! I don't know what these guns do!"
"Why don't you go play Daikatana?"
Sorry, was drifting into another reality.
Resistance 2 is probably the best of the bunch. A lot of people like 3 but if you played this one you might as well play 2 and see how things progressed.
OMG I can’t believe you didn’t realize this game had a weapon wheel! Also for the love of God play The Conduit. The first one is my favorite Wii game!
Underrated VideoGame
Resistance 2s horder mode multiplayer was awesome
I honestly really liked this series. The enemy designs were cool and it had some cool setpieces like the leviathan in 2 and the prison in 3. I know the set up is pretty cliched but i always enjoyed it. Even the PSP spin off
I never got the its too gray complaints, I mean its in the UK, that's what the UK looks like.
I remember grabbing this game as a wee baby of age 13. i remember it being pretty enjoyable, especially in co-op. pretty good for 20 dollary-doos
One of the best campaigns of any FPS imho
The only thing I know about resistance is that there is a costume in littlebigplanet
I always seen this as PlayStation's "Gears of War", not quite but that's the vibe i got. I still need to play the trilogy, always interested me.

Matt, we all know OSW would no-sell the invasion, their workrate is world class, horrifying monsters or not.
Until he said the word killzone I had completely forgot they were different games and just assumed the sequels were in the future or something... I'm stupid
Definitely play Resistance 2 & 3. They’re both extremely underrated with some fun but difficult sequences.
Resistance 2 was a cod clone and resistance 3 is a improved version of fall of man with a good story and the campaign is offline and online co-op compatible. I would recommend 3 instead of 2 to play next
Resistance 3 is basically a half life game.
