I know this is an old comment but I am thinking about going and I would graduate at 48. I am so afraid I just can't balance school and momhood and life. I would love to know if you are still loving it.
I'm in my 40's and FINALLY decided to go back and finish my LPN. my kids are grown, and this was the perfect timing for me. I started and stopped school twice due to work and kids. I kept beating myself up and regretting my decisions. Now, I understand that there is a time and a season for EVERYTHING and EVERYONE. This is my season, and I will be done with my LPN in December. I MAY look into the bridge to RN program next year.

I am 42 in my 1st semester in an accelerated program in Canada. I thankfully don't have kids and don't have a job during school. The younger students have invited me out. This is my 3rd career. I worked in mental health, had my own hypnotherapy business and before that worked in veterinary medicine.

Exactly! Learning hits really differently when you're older because you now have the maturity to treat learning with as much discipline, respect, and dedication. I'm in my mid 20s and have been in the corporate for the last 7 years and quite hesitant to go back to college but after watching this video, I am now fully decided. I definitely agree with you on the advantages. We are more equipped with finer work ethic and maturity than our younger counterparts. Thanks for this
I'll start ASN in the Spring of 2025 at 51 years old. If everything goes well, I will graduate in the first week of May 2026 at 52. Now that my kids are all grown up and out of the house, I don't have that obligation and can focus on myself. It's been my goal to be a nurse but I couldn't do it when I was younger due to family obligations. This is my time and if I don't do it now, I will have a lifetime of regrets.

Thank you for affirming the phenomenon of age & stage as a Nursing student; it does matter ❤. It’s a challenge to often navigate through the negative energies & nuances often associated with being an older student among many ambitious young. One thing that is helpful is having the assurance that you’re already established. A 2nd career means that it’s not your 1st working/career rodeo; you’re just reaching higher, for better 🎓! Having already achieved various levels of success (family, homes, cars etc) and obtained pieces of the American dream helps to affirm the return to school_tho at a later age 🎉

Nah, at 49 I think it took me a while to get used to stretching my brain and study again but it was fine. Make sure u stay healthy and at least take walks to get yr blood pumping..
In my 50's... I was worried about that too. Until about 30, I could remember everything easily. Never bothered taking notes and kept a 4.0. I know I'm the exception, but I've looked a LOT into learning. Passive learning seems to slack off in your mid to late 20's, but active learning is still very functional. You just have to study with consistency and you'll do fine. Yes, all the things that look different on the outside... yeah... that's going on in the inside as well. Your brain doesn't work as well as it used to, but it still works well enough to get the job done, and done well. Being more disciplined, eating right, and exercising will make all the difference.
In my 50's and have 6 more months of school to get my ASN. You just didn't wait long enough... I have no obligations since my kids are grown up, and I had plenty of money saved up so I didn't have to work. And good grief... I'm friendly with the younger students (most of them are my kids age or younger... except my youngest daughter, who is also in the program), but why in the heck would I want to hang out with these kids???
The travel nurses during clinicals are 2nd 3rd deg courses peeps and started early 40s - early 50s. They are loving it. ✨✨✨😍 and my cohort is around mid 20s to 60 😃

Could you also address the toxic environment that nursing school can be? I’m now suing mine over discrimination, harassment, forging my signature, lying to us, and accusing me of taking drugs (refusing to test me though). Me and other students in my cohort have suffered anxiety with some of them being diagnosed with PTSD from our nursing school. I know from talking to others that my experience wasn’t unique. It needs to be talked about and it needs to be fought. I hated the advise “just keep your head down…” They are literally breaking the law and trying to take us down! How am I as a future nurse in charge of people’s lives supposed to just be quiet and ignore this behavior!?
Yes, NS incivility is real talk; such a shame that such a respectable profession will have its share of uncivilized. Despite the pursuit of justice, don’t give up on completion your mission - Nursing 👩🏽⚕️.
You only seem to hear about the nasty ones, but my school is great and all the teachers are super helpful to everyone. 95% of the nurses I talk to loved their school. Go find a better school. It's not worth putting up with that kind of madness
@@EdwardsNHgo find a better school? And throw the years I had put into it away and start over? There’s no such thing as a nursing school transfer student mid-program. I looked into it. And I believe you are the lucky one… most every nurse I’ve talked to in the 7 years I’ve worked in healthcare had some negative experiences with their nursing school. Some more toxic than others, but nonetheless this program has been far worse then my undergraduate degree in cellular and molecular biology as far as egos, lies, manipulation and attitudes go.

I'm 28. I just got accepted into the ABSN program in Normal, IL. I am not sure if I should do it or not. I keep changing my mind. People telling me to go for paramedic school instead. I'm an EMT-B
