    What’s nice about this system. It uses the KISS principle, no mechanical parts to fail.Been using this for over 5 years on Toms, Peppers, Cukes, Celery and other veg. Great crop every time. Great Watercress in a 3 gallon bin, lasts all summer.

    When I add nutrient solutions to my tomato plants for the first time, I only add approx an 1” or so in bottom so not to drown air roots, they start to shrivel and end up dying over the next couple of days. Have y’all had any experience with this? They are in 5 gallon buckets

      We order ours from China and have done for a few years now ... they are cheap and come with little foam inserts that hold the seedlings .... We use 50 mm in pipe work and mostly in the bucket as the only part of the plant is the stem that goes through it ... You can find if you like on ebay 70-75 mm ones that we also use , but those are really not necessary .... IMO Unless you grow plants like celery that tends to grow quite large at its base .... then use the bigger ones ...

  • @MRDunroman
    @MRDunroman 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Mate it seams to me you are showing what you are doing. Beginners like myself want to know HOW you do it. Do you have to change the solution and if so how often, you stated that you prepared the day before Prepare on the show then we all learn

    • @offthegridinoz.994
      @offthegridinoz.994  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I was pondering whether or not to answer this, but thought, okay suggestions can be good. I'm pretty sure we covered your question somewhere. No we don't change the solution, but we do make up the nutrients and water in the watering can when we top up the buckets. You will learn when you need to do this when you have a go at doing these for yourself, it will obviously depend on the season and the plant as to how much water they will use. Some plants that are annuals will never need the water touched, especially in winter, because there will be enough for their life cycle in the original mix. In the summer, if the plants get really thirsty then you will need to top up.
      cheers Kerri

    Those buckets are really big. Do you only use those for certain veg? Can you grow any veg this way - if so, are there different sizes you need to use? For example what size might you use for strawberry plants? In the summer wont black buckets attract the heat and warm the water and wont that be bad for the roots? How does the black bucket stave off algae growth - I thought warmth would attract algae

    How did you cut the barrels in half? What did you use? Tools? Everything looks great.

    The nutrient solution has to be boiling in those black buckets in the summer time. How do you deal with the high temperatures and preventing Pythium?

    Thanks for a great vid. I have a quick question...What about refilling your buckets when the water level is low? Do you add more nutrients?

    • @offthegridinoz.994
      @offthegridinoz.994  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      yes Michael everytime you fill them you add nutrients as well. Pretty easy. Give it a shot :) cheers Kerri

    Have tried to grow various plants in the water only bucket system. However, many of the plants developed yellow leaves and
    quite a few have roots which began to look very unhealthy. Have kept an eye on the nutrient level and pH but still had problems
    Eggplant did quite well and produced a few fruits but now despite good amount of flowers plants are beginning to go yellow and
    fruit has basically stopped growing. So overall, it has not been very successful. Any ideas about what I might be doing wrong.

    Hi Guys, love your video. I am inspired to give it a go myself but I haven't been able to find where I can buy the One Grow nutrients you use. I am in Victoria. Cheers

      Hi Deb ... yes the OneGrow is hard to find these days , so we swapped some time ago to a local Ozie made version that has been working well ... It is a bit more economical too :- ) buy it online on fleabay with free delivery ... cheers Steve

      Thanks Steve. It says in the ad though that it is for indoor growing using Netherlands technology. Is that the one? Does that work the same way as the one in your video where you basically set and forget or do you need to keep checking pH levels regularly? Thanks again, Deb
