Off the grid in oz.
Australia
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 5 ก.พ. 2017
We are a not so young couple living off the grid in Australia. We have lived off the grid since around 2009 so have gone through many many challenges. Today we feel that we aren't just surviving the off grid lifestyle but are totally determined to get to the thriving stage. We started building our second off grid property around May 2016 and we are loving every challenge of setting up everything from scratch. We are very self reliant and everything is done with little to no outside help.
These videos are aimed at telling our story of how we go about the business of living off the grid in Central Victoria. We hope they inspire you to have a go. If you would like to ask us questions or pass on some interesting information then please feel free to message us or visit

Chinese Pot Still NEW june 2022
Well I bit the bullet and after I think was around 5 years with the old still and I lashed out and spent what was just $290 bucks on the new improved one :- )
The old one was still going , but had a few annoying issues that were lets say getting to me !! lololol
Anyway ... this is a short vid on the new one and a little update on why I swapped it out , or as I like to think about it , up graded it ....
In a nut shell , all stainless lines and coil , new better seals , more clamps to seal the boiler and a few other minor things .... basically a nice upgrade that is now continuing the constant distilled water production here with a little more benefits ....
cheers Steve and Kerri ...

Off the Grid and Generators
มุมมอง 6552 ปีที่แล้ว
Living Off the Grid will nearly always mean having a generator as back up or even for many more things . The subject is quite complex and like always many people have many views on them. This is my general take regards generators and shows what we do and I tell why I deal with them like I do ... Like everything in life and Off the Grid living , Generators are a case of what you need to run from...

Off the grid in Oz and our Free camping
มุมมอง 6633 ปีที่แล้ว
We live eat and chit Off the Grid and even with our short holidays we do the same .... So, we bought a pop top caravan and created a little off grid, mobile bug out mobile. It's now fitted out with its own little solar system which means we still have all the comforts of home including air con. We can't really call it camping, definetly more a glamping adventure. We have done a couple of trips ...
Off the Grid living and the Covid19 effect?
มุมมอง 1.2K4 ปีที่แล้ว
What's a good reason to get out of the cities and get off the grid? Possibly, being around so many people during the pandemic has highlighted to you just how much easier life could be if you didn't have to worry about being so close to so many? We love being off the grid and in this little video we will have a chat about our thoughts on this. We'll also have a bit of a wander around the garden ...
Off the Grid Solar powered gib crane and work site
มุมมอง 7104 ปีที่แล้ว
We stepped up our Solar powered life by adding a couple of things to the Tiny House work area after many years mucking around walking back and forth to the main workshop and as far as the crane goes , we now have made life much easier and a bit safer by building our own solar powered Gib Crane to lift the 3meter roof panels up the 4.5 meters in the air to fit them ... What a bloody ripper it is...

How is your stove going after some years?
We need an update guys 👍👍👍
I hope you're still with us
Subscribing and liking however… you need to drop the negativity throughout your videos. You tend to repeat the same philosophy for 5 minutes at the beginning of each video that I have watched so far…. Other than that, very informative and will help my little family on our OTG journey
We don't own anything.
End of the day in black and white it comes down to you. Basically you decide how much you want to spend and you decide how hard you want to work. Don’t want to spend much your not going to have much if you don’t want to do the work well your set up is going to be shit. If you’re willing to work and willing to put some coin in you’ll have half a chance of success. Love the explanation and sense of humour. New sub.
how did you ground it ?
Mate, you're spot on, but never forget, too.many WOFTAMs out there who are simply full of $#it.
Yay so excited to follow a experienced channel with Aussies we are just embarking on our journey off-grid in Gippsland Au whoohoo baby TH-camrs here too ❤️
Yay another Aussie off gridders time to do some binging hahahah
Sounds like a flex plate to me, was that it?
I wish it had been , but not to be .... it was a broken piston skirt :- (
Touch of swearword never hurt anything
Did u ever figure it out
Great video guys and very entertaining, had a few laughs, which always helps. 👍
Had the same thing in our plans, but now I think it may be keeping an eye out for piping with a hawk eye. You know how it works when starting over and the pension just doesn't go as far as it used to. But yeah, you have put that mental note into the crank operated memory cells. Thanks. Stay safe, God bless.
Why do you not fit stairs?
Mostly because stairs or any other way that people want to get up into lofts is a bit of a personal thing and depending on cabinetry and fit outs they have in mind some times need to be tailor built to suit .... ... So we just leave that to clients to sort as part of the fit out ... cheers Steve
These panels are not called SIPs. They are called IMPs (insulated metal panels). And by the way .... Good job man
Well not too sure about that , but hey they are called many things , what ever :- ) www.uniquestylehomes.com.au/sip-panel-homes.html
Do you have to measure your ph or nutrient levels or do you just add your 30ml/9l every week
Do you ever use a ph tester or test the nutrient.levels
Where do you get the mesh pots from and what size please. Really wanna give it a go
What size pip
I'm hating the system more and more each day... not a radical bomber or anything but man it's getting really bad these days (2023), i cant wait to see what your saying about 2023 when i get to those videos
Hi Steve, Six years on since this video was made would you still pick EPS panels for your house build or is there another product that you would use?
Lol. Shit is never going to hit the fan. Now that is funny
Everything looks great! we are now in the process of setting electricity, our heart goes to Solar but we don't know what to do....we have LPG gas for cooking/baking, hot water and small heater. But we want to buy the wood heater soon. We are looking for a good brand, reliable and not too expensive, we found Red Earth Energy storage from Queensland asking prices etc....our place is 3 bedrooms, hubby and I and family when they visit. Anyways, we are looking. Keep going, place looks great! cheers
Hi quick question how much do you put in your thumper? Does some of the fluid in the thumper sit in the pipe ? Ie were it enters the thumper pot. 👍
Beautifully said! About to embark on my own mission.
What a beauty! Just what I’m looking for! How do I get hold of You and order? Also do you deliver to South Australia? Looking forward to your response
Hi ... yep that one was a ripper ! ... to get hold of us ? first step is by going to our website and filling in the contact form with your full details and a short description of what you are after ... I am, happy to call you after that step to go over a few points about that build .. anyway first things first ... offthegridinoz.com/tinyhouses/ and hit that form/ contact us page .... ... :- ) cheers Steve
This was five years ago. Can you say/show how these tomatoes 🍅 progressed
Hey Steve, are you still using a 3KW solar system? New to learning about off grid and not sure how many KW’s is required these days to have aircon going, tv, internet, and say the vacuum at the same time. Would love another one of those off grid videos you did a while back!
Been looking at Dutch buckets and similar videos... never heard them called guerilla buckets
Luv ya vid & language 💪🏻😎😎😎👌🏼… oh & great info for my bus build, cheers mate 🍺🍻🍺

Yer , that has not been available for years now for some reason ? We swapped to this a few years ago and it is fine ... Dutch Fest ...A bit more economical as well ... www.ebay.com.au/itm/182355371488?hash=item2a753a25e0:g:LAIAAOSw2uJiMbMO&amdata=enc%3AAQAHAAABAHkzTIJCTq3ZESDhQG5T%2F7orGHmVAkXw3Menwyhw65yKdAhRvbMS79OVskPCYyavcEMF7ZGGbEUg8uQRiFVvT01jyfXGz%2FwjFuXxSU8qSVKfxhOY3CmgBLToRCNod2KcwCNGYLxhlZinEXMEZLXvZYrao3RbRgHnpwV3TrIK2MvJc%2BNwfLH%2FYSGDxUJwFTBPzPSeNtXOa5bKUNMdqBf2PMQGWcD%2Bo98SVWjc4pYI%2F9OlEkt7Pt1%2B2AzlhgNaB0JfNpdFaE0jaLkboy7GVjSZVxpqZbVIQaAT4u1O9VCKqNvFZ3nFVnKcT2VWOoZ7akrxsOA1mB7gIBDd3Nyua8cbiWQ%3D%7Ctkp%3ABFBMkuXw96Jh cheers Steve :- )
Gr8 job with the video and advice, esp stainless coil and 6 clamps .. keen to follow your approach, but unable go find this kit here in Aus .. do u mind sharing brand/supplier .. many thanks.. Allan
They are available ... but I believe you need to make sure you send them a note to make sure you get the stainless coils .... I cant find the exact one that I bought :- ( www.ebay.com.au/itm/313792393870?var=612554328869 cheers Steve
Hi, I'm getting one of these from my Mrs, I've made beer and wine, but I've watched and read about the first drops how much do you throw away to be safe, one jar ? Half a jar ? Any help would be awesome. thanks
I run only about 50ml ( 1 shot glass full and chuck it ) .... then its business as usual mate : - )
In my opinion it is really up to you how much you chuck .... My 30lt still make at the end of the run around 9lts of 40 ABV so a tiny bit of the so called nasties is not much thinied through that :- )
Thank you brilliant, my Mrs has bought me a 50 litre 3 pot still on offer for Xmas , thankyou very much. 👍
@@shaunpenn9509 are you going to use gas or going to transform it into a electric still?
@@nicospekjes6608 probably gas
Did you found the issue ? I have the same in my 99
Is it safe to use washed out oil pails as Kratky / Dutch buckets
nice hydro setup in the background.
Love this design
What temp do stay in between on that gauge on the pot ? Thx
I lived in my RV for 2 years in the Colorado mountains on 2 small 35 W PV panels, and spent my days doing electronic design work.
Interested in seeing your new battery bank, I’m about to get batteries and really liked your old set up, is it going to be much different? Can’t wait for the vid on that! Cheers hope all is well there!
What receipe do you use to start the process I have a vecor distillery and can’t find a video on how to make moonshine in one of these
hahaha "we're not conspiracy theorists" 😂 mate anyone who isn't a sheep is a conspiracy theorist 🙂
bro how do you keep your roots so white? Mine always suffered from root rot 🤢
My favourite. Doing circle work in your driveway. X
Love it guys, having somewhere to sit after a long day an enjoying it will keep you going.
