    Counterintuitive advice: declare war on the enemy while your troops are not too close to their cities. They will send their units to *your* capital which means you're unlikely to have to worry about as many archers or garrison units.
    Trivial reminders: unpromoted archers don't help with putting a city "under siege" (preventing healing) as they don't exert area of control (all non-mountain tiles around the city must be under your area of control for the siege to take place). Also, counterintuitively, conquering bigger cities first makes it easier to manage loyalty (the citizens in the conquered town immediately project loyalty pressure for you).
    Last cheesy advice: leave the enemy with a single pop city at the edge of your large conquered cities. They should rebel, which means none of the other countries will blame you for killing them.

    • @LoudWaffle
      @LoudWaffle ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I agree it's good to remember this. It doesn't even need to cut into your production schedule heavily, just build the walls anytime before researching conservation, it's very easy for most or all of your cities to get ancient and medieval walls in only a couple of turns by waiting to start the projects. High production cities or one near an aggressive enemy can get renaissance walls. It adds up to a lot of tourism.

    Nice video, but the old "scouts only have one more movement point than other units" is a hackneyed trope. It doesn't take long for a scout to level up, letting you select it to ignore hills or jungle/forest, and they speed up like *that*. Sometimes, you can get them to level up a second time (or find the matterhorn) and make it so that you ignore all terrain.

    I just came here to say, after entering the series at Civ V and spending 1,000 hours on Civ VI, THIS VIDEO helped me achieve my FIRST DIETY WIN!!! I have watched a few tips and tricks videos, read a few guides and never crushed this game like a god. Specifically, your tips on city placement, planning, and an ABUNDANCE of early settling was key for me to finally spank these angry leaders. I was close to 10 cities by turn 100. Settled 7 myself and picked up closest rival capital and another city. Then the snowballing began in my favor. I was able to secure a science victory with Seondeok nearly 40 turns before my nearest rival. Sure, it took me ages to catch up with science, but I eventually caught up after the Mars Launch. By that point, I had easily become the dominant military for half of existence and could have gone domination 50 turns earlier. 18/20 diplo points without even attempting that. Could have even pushed culture win as the AI gave up on really any victory condition and would willingly sell to my ridiculous treasury. I tend not to mess with religion, but am looking forward to working that in to my next playthrough!
    Thanks for your videos and your unique style commentary. You gave me faith I never knew I had. May even attempt to play against Gandhi now...Cheers!

  • @alex2005z
    @alex2005z 2 ปีที่แล้ว +15

    I actually prefer horsemen over swordsmen for early rushes. I can use archers to get trough walls, they usually end up doing about 20-30 dmg to archers per shot, which is very little so you can get trough walls in a good 5 turns, which isnt exactly fast, but if you are fast you should face 1 walled city at most. And horsemen rushes have massive advantages over swordsmen:
    1: more movement allows for you to hit earlier and pillage better
    2: you get archers early, so you can declare war and then have the horsemen come in later, thus hitting them way before you could get a swordsmen rush going
    3: easier and more guaranteed eureka path
    4: if you dont get horses, you can go with something else, but by the time you get bronze working but dont have iron its kind of to late to stop, so you have to settle some stupid city for iron, which can cripple you. Or if you just dont have someone else nearby you can pull out and sim earlier.
    5: coursers are better than men at arms since they arent in the ass side of the tech tree and are stronger, and very close to trebuchets to keep the war going if you want to
    6: you can sell some horses you get since you get them early enough to then have them stack, and the extra gold is nice

    • @aseed89
      @aseed89 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes I kept failing swordsmen rushes. Takes too long to accumulate 60 iron, have to settle shit cities for it and they have low movement. I tried horsemen rush one game and just dominated

    I think you are wrong about scouts. With one promotion scouts can also move though hills of forest tiles without penalty which speeds up quite a lot in a lot of cases. My build order is usually scout, slinger, settler, monument or scout, slinger, monument, settler. If I have an aggressive civ ner close I would maybe go for another slinger.

    • @lamarmahomesbakesmecakewhe8520
      @lamarmahomesbakesmecakewhe8520 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The problem is trying to get promotions with scouts, you lose a scout, that means you wasted time making one and if you keep two scouts together to battle in order to get one upgraded without one dying that renders the extra moves pointless because you essentially wasted one of your scouts movements to keep the other safe... In any high difficulty game, the barbarian scouts are going to demolish your scouts one on one and you never want to move your one and only warrior troop that far from your first base until you get established, essentially rendering scouts useless unless you are lucky.

      @@lamarmahomesbakesmecakewhe8520 I'm not really trying. But you can clear a barb camp and you are almost there.
      If you find one or two tribal villages the scouts has already paid for it self. You also don't need them to stay back and defend. You just want them to explore and keep them alive as long as possible. The goal is to explore most of the continent you are on.

      @michaelbacchiocchi8111 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree that Scouts can be extremely valuable but it takes an experienced player to maximize their value by obtaining the +20 ambush promotion. I especially had fun with the Inca warak’aqs (2attacks/turn 40 ranged strength) and becoming Kabul’s Suzerain which gave me double XP. I had so many units with the +20 ambush promotion they were unstoppable… and cheap with no resource requirement!
      In general practice I’ll build at least a few scouts depending upon how much territory I’ll need to discover, and will build more if they can become worthy military units like the warak’aq or the Scottish Highlander. If I become invested in many recon units I’ll even plug in the Survey policy card and gain double XP.

    I tried the potato guy’s build order with 2 scouts and honestly it’s fucking terrible in comparison so thanks for that! Diety is a cakewalk now with all the useful shit you’ve shown me so thanks for ruining the challenge on the higher difficulties. And whoever said getting a scout out to secure a goody hut, this might be ok but on deity you’ll likely be attacked, and promoting the first slingers you built will save you from getting prolapsed. Alternatively they can be used to transition in to an early war without wasting extra precious turns on building slingers because your st**** a** built some scouts.

    Some wonders are really woth it. Those that give extra civic slots are so good - Big Ben, Forbidden City, Alhambra e tc. They can really make a difference if you have 2 or more of them

    I always rush 4 slingers and then change them to archers asap and siege enemy cities with them. While rushing on diety i always rush all my neighbors and aquire 8 to 9 cities and some setters by turn 100 on marathon.

    I've played enough games to sort of 'know' whether it's a meh build, or whether I was blessed with excellent map placement, and most importantly Hammurabi isn't a competitor. One may as well start over if that's the case LOL.

    I blame Religious Settlements for me falling behind in my last Immortal game. I started next to Roraima and got its 3 faith tile for the first pantheon. I took Religious Settlements when, meanwhile, 90% of the rest of the landmass I was on was Marshes. I was also fighting for my life against Horse Barbarians, so that didn't help...
    Lady of the Reeds and Marshes is an insane pantheon if you get a lot of Marshes (I had, like, 15 there). You can't improve them, but you also don't need to either, not with a 3 food and 2 production tile on turn 10. If you get Etamanaki, the game is basically over, with you rolling 3 food, 3 production, and 2 science tiles in the Ancient Era.

    The only thing I have found spear and pikemen too good be good for has been taking out barbarians who already have horsemen or enemy cities that already have horsemen.
    I only ever build one scout and once he dies I never build another one but I always do it early game just to start opening up the mat more because once they level up they can move a lot faster across certain terrain

    Thank you for a couple of concise intros - just also got through your "First 50 Turns" vid - and together with your suggestions in this post, I'll give Civ VI another shot - the last time I did that, I believe it was called Civ Revolutions? Afraid I won't be able to match your methamphetamine intake, but I'll go old-school with shots of bourbon neat and chasers from my local microbrewery.
    Cheers from Vienna!
    PS: Btw, why are Habsburgs and the Austro-Hungarian Empire no longer represented in Civ VI? Yes, I read there's a Maria Theresa Mod somewhere, but surely, the people who kicked off WW I deserve more than that? True, today they are referred to as Germany's Gaza Strip, but given their historical importance, they must be worth as much as some of these other civs which seem to have crawled out of a swamp just last Tuesday (and no, dear PC police, this is not a racial comment, it's a "some civs suck the big one and it's good they're gone" comment).

    I think scouts are grate because they get faster over time and I typically use them to circumvent the global. You will also need the extra speed to get vilages fast before the ai does. I sometimes even clear barb camps with them and I sometimes even go for 2 scouts! They are quite useless in mid and late game but my mindset when playing civ is how can I snowball as fast as possible? Encampments and villages are busted and early scouting overall is game defining. Why wouldn't I use the best scouting unit and use them to scare off barbarian scouts that report my city location?

    An advice i would give is to never make an industrial zone as the new Julius ceaser. If you can claim 2 barb camps early or at least one you will snow ball out of control. I made the mistake of making an industrial zones for better troop production in every city only to find that i own 50 cities and i have purchased all my units with gold from the 8 or more barb camps i am farming 😂. Save it for later when you are going for a space race victory 😂. I also make 1 theater for every 2 campuses. When the deity AI finaly reaches musket men i will be upgrading to infantry and on my way to mechanized infantry. No AI will even come close, most they will have is knights.
