  • We took a day trip down the Alexander Springs Run. It is located within the Alexander Springs Recreation Area on the eastern side of the Ocala National Forest. Multiple spring vents under a limerock ledge discharge clear and nearly constant 72°F water, forming a large spring pool. The bottom of the pool is a combination of sand and aquatic plants. One portion of the shoreline has a sand beach and stairs leading to the gently sloping spring pool; the remainder of the shoreline is the native floodplain forest of maples, sweetgum, and cabbage palms.
The one-mile Timucuan Trail goes through the floodplain, sometimes on boardwalks, with two overlooks along the spring run.
A nearby concession facility offers canoe and kayak rentals and livery service for those who want to paddle the spring run, which flows approximately eight miles until the confluence with the St. Johns River.
The recreation area also includes camping, picnic areas, and a bathhouse. It is open for both day use and for overnight.
After fishing and swimming, we went for a short hike and scouted some killer camping spots.
I hope you enjoy my video!

I'm glad you enjoyed the video Pat. We're doing our best to protect these waters here in Florida. It's our life-source.

Feel free to utilize any of the tools you might find on the island. Also, there's a geocache on the downstream half.

Oh man, we're going to have to paddle back soon and check that out. Might even leave a survival tool in there!

Yes, it was fairly clean. A few small pieces of paper trash, but that could've been anyone. It did look like a small fire got out of hand and burnt up the corner of the island though. Nothing too bad.

Hope to see you out there next time! My wife's great grandfather donated that land to the state for all of us to enjoy! We hold that land and those waters close to our hearts.
