During the 30 year civil war in Sri Lanka in the 90's we had no TV, no electricity and no food. But as kids, we used to collect old batteries and operate a small radio and would wait till they played this song at 9.55pm everynight before the local news. The war is now over and the country is peaceful; but nothing can takeaway the memories this song brings. I never knew the name of the song, neither the name of the composer and nether did I know the song was 400 years old. When the batteries run out of power, we leave it in the sun to charge, as we couldn't afford to buy. Listening to this song, was our only happiness during the war. Our tummies were empty, but our hearts were full.

You are right. It is one of the best versions I have heard. Like you, it is very emotional for me. I am walking down the aisle more than 30 years ago, a fairy tale wedding of epic proportion. And I am remembering it falling apart two years later, remembering the violence. But I was blessed even then, blessed to have my son, who has been the sun, the moon, and the stars in my sky. A gift like no other.

Most of your comment is a fucking lie. Stop lying on the internet.
This piece was played at mine and my wife's wedding...…….she walked down the aisle of our church to this. It was her choice and it brings me to happy tears every time I listen. I love it and I love her.
This piece of music had a profound effect on my life. I was going through a very turmoiling time in my life where I cried non stop for a week and I wouldn't sleep because I was afraid to die. Then my music teacher played this song for me and it was as if God was saying don't be afraid I have set a place for you. I suddenly stopped crying and I am no longer afraid. This piece of music is a gift from God through the most amazing composer in history.
I heard recently that studies has been done about this piece of music, it's truly amazing : this music specificly "activate" the 8 fondamentals amino acids in our body. It's like the Goldberg variations of JS Bach : a mathematical architecture trough music...
Every comment I read here lifts my heart and brings a tear to my eye as I realise the magic of this piece not only touches my soul but thousands of others too. Thank you all for sharing your experiences and lifting the vibration of this beautiful planet we all share 🕊❤
Wow. This song reminds me of loss: the loss my brave and beautiful daughter, the loss of youth, of dreams, of failed relationships. It also reminds me of hope, resilience, and our ability to love deeply and persevere until the end. RIP and fly with the angels sweetheart!
Sending my most heartfelt condolences to yourself & your family. May your daughter be remembered in the most beautiful of fashions, never forgotten & loved still, no matter how hard. X
I listen to Canon everyday, sometimes multiple times and it never fails to lift my soul up into the highest realms. Johann Pachelbel you sir were a genius 🙏
This is the most beautiful version I know of. Not only does it lift my soul, but it renews my faith. Weird that it takes music from centuries ago, to restore a soul and bring us back to the things that really matter in life.
well said . it touches emotions that our vocabulary lacks the words to describe . its beauty . sad . happy. young. old and the rest as i say has no words
This is the best rendition because they actually have the proper timing and tones. You wouldn't believe how many other recordings simply do not have that iconic "UMPH", I'm saying.
I first heard this when I was in a Duty Free store at an airport.. For the life of me, I couldn't figure out what it was as I never listened to classical. This completely changed how I look at classical and to this day, I still listen to this piece over and over. It will be my absolute favourite piece till I am gone. Also there are a lot of versions out there as we know, and many played by different countries and by different orchestra company. This is one of the absolute best by far. More composed/together and sounds better. Well done to the Japanese for playing it so well.
I think this might be the most beautiful music ever composed. The orchestra does a superb performance. This music radiates peace and calm. It make me think of the goodness of God and being safe in His arms.
When I hear this- it reminds me of everything in my life. The laughs, the family losses- the changes that come no matter what. Time moves on and room is made for the next generation to hear and enjoy. It touches my soul. This to me is true music. I pray it’s on a continual loop when I go back to my real home.
It really is, what in my earthly mind, I would want to hear in heaven. Because of this song I began listening to classical music.... and oh, my Lord, what a difference in my attitude, and general outlook on things. We all have a God shaped hole in us that we are looking to fill. This song does that. Just let your memories be the song, and you'll understand so easily.
When my second boy was born I loved to listen to this piece and it was so soothing and it seemed that he enjoyed it too, little did I know that he would be diagnosed with autism at age 3 and every time I listen to this it only brings me to tears because there was nothing that could prepare me for that, he is now 15 and he is such a great kid but he is non-verbal and goes to special education but out of any type of music he loves classic music as much as I do.
I have high functioning autism and have been listening to this song, played by various artists, everyday for a few months now. I know it from before, I played it on a violin as a kid, but it has become one of my obsessions now. Together with Departures by Joe Hisaishi.

German composer of the Baroque era Johann Pachelbel is best known for his Canon in D, a popular piece of classical music that has become one of the most recognized and frequently performed compositions in the world. 1:01 [Hello Music Theory]
When and where Pachelbel's Canon originated, and why exactly he composed it, is largely a mystery to music historians. It dates to the late-17th or early 18th century, and there's speculation that it was written as a gift for the wedding of Johann Sebastian Bach's older brother, who studied with Pachelbel. [The New York Times]
The word “canon” comes from the Greek kanṓn, for “rule” or “standard.” In canons, the general rule is this: one voice plays the melody, and after some interval of time, the second voice plays the same melody, then the third voice, and so on. In Pachelbel’s score, while the three upper voices play lofty melodies, the bass voice, typically performed on the cello, is stuck playing a pattern of just eight notes over and over, and over, for 27 repetitions in total. 2:02 [WQXR]
Baroque musical genres include both vocals and instrumentals, with the only difference being they were quite larger in number of categories than those of in the renaissance era.
It was in the Baroque era - roughly 1600-1750 - that the notion of the orchestra really came into its own, and composers started to layer instruments up in complex polyphony - different musical parts - and harmony. [Classic FM]
I listened to this song last night, and I didn’t know that I was dreaming. In the dream Seeing me and my loved ones chasing laughter on the vast grassland, the warm sunshine is shining on the lake, and a burst of warmth is full of my heart............ I suddenly woke up from my dream, and consciousness told myself that she had left me... crying... Anyway, thank you for giving me a short but warm memory.

What a wonderful comment, as beautiful as the song itself.
God is with you and you shall surely live in peace forever in the embrace of all you love.
'Turmoiling' is that even a word? lol
I feel the same God is so real best kept secret is that He doesn't exist pray 🙏
I heard recently that studies has been done about this piece of music, it's truly amazing : this music specificly "activate" the 8 fondamentals amino acids in our body. It's like the Goldberg variations of JS Bach : a mathematical architecture trough music...
I'm japanese.
My Mother said "this music is like heaven."
Canon is the best music in my opinion.

Wow. This song reminds me of loss: the loss my brave and beautiful daughter, the loss of youth, of dreams, of failed relationships. It also reminds me of hope, resilience, and our ability to love deeply and persevere until the end. RIP and fly with the angels sweetheart!

So do I.
Maestro Pachelbel I am sure is smiling listening to this interpretation of his masterpiece. Truly magnificent.

This is the most beautiful version I know of. Not only does it lift my soul, but it renews my faith. Weird that it takes music from centuries ago, to restore a soul and bring us back to the things that really matter in life.

This is the best rendition because they actually have the proper timing and tones. You wouldn't believe how many other recordings simply do not have that iconic "UMPH", I'm saying.
I know what you're describing.
My thoughts, exactly. Thanks for posting them😊
Written 343 years ago❤❤❤ by the great musical genius, Johan Pachelbel
343 years ago! My, sounds just as fresh today, as ever before.
I don't recall where I was but it was 30 yrs ago when I first hear this. My love of classical music grew from there. I guess is this a good "hook"!
I love it best when it is played with expression and not just with speed!
No speed here just beauty I could listen to this all day ❤🎉😮😊
I think this might be the most beautiful music ever composed.

He is a great kid. Period. You are a great parent.
Having autism is like being a mutant from xmen
I have high functioning autism and have been listening to this song, played by various artists, everyday for a few months now. I know it from before, I played it on a violin as a kid, but it has become one of my obsessions now. Together with Departures by Joe Hisaishi.

Pachelbel is a great soul poet, and his music is the poetry of the soul
