During the 30 year civil war in Sri Lanka in the 90's we had no TV, no electricity and no food. But as kids, we used to collect old batteries and operate a small radio and would wait till they played this song at 9.55pm everynight before the local news. The war is now over and the country is peaceful; but nothing can takeaway the memories this song brings. I never knew the name of the song, neither the name of the composer and nether did I know the song was 400 years old. When the batteries run out of power, we leave it in the sun to charge, as we couldn't afford to buy. Listening to this song, was our only happiness during the war. Our tummies were empty, but our hearts were full.
My wife passed away 11 years ago, my daughters have been married, my father in law has passed, my grandchildren born. An endless progression of beginnings and endings. This song is the sound of my life. Thank you!

Did you know, that Pechebel’s canon in D was an obscure, unknown composition found in a German church from the 1690’s? That was 300 years ago. It was discovered by accident in the 1900s and slowly gained popularity. Legend says this tune was originally composed as a wedding march for the composer’s wife or the wife of a friend. The reason why it is so beautiful is because the composer was in love when he made the tune. And it comes across in the music. You feel what true love is.
This tune was probably made for the wedding of Johann Christoph Bach in 1694, he was the older brother of Johann Sebastian Bach, in my opinion the greatest composer of all times.
That's not true. The original composition was made for chamber music, not orchestal music and it's tempo was much faster. In the 60's Francois Palliard made the slow version we know now. The original version even doesn't have its characteristic arpeggios. They were added on the Palliard version because some parts of the composition were borign while playing slow. Most of your comment is a fucking lie. Stop lying on the internet.
every time I listen to this music my mind bring up an unforgettable moment of my life. Summer 1970, I was 18, sitting in San Marco square Venice along with my girlfriend, looking at the stars when the see breeze brought this music and in that moment I felt myself in peace. 50 years passed by and I still remember how good I felt.
I got married in 1972 , in a romanesque church and this was the music being played when my wife entered the aisle . I still ask myself : where was the magic ? My wife or the music ? They both are still in the golden memory of that sunny May

Even as a young child from a tough upbringing I found great comfort in this song, both audibly and spiritually. At 58 years old I appreciate it more than ever I've listened to this over and over as it helped me through very tough times. This version by this group of very talented artists is one of the most beautiful versions that I can remember.
You are right. It is one of the best versions I have heard. Like you, it is very emotional for me. I am walking down the aisle more than 30 years ago, a fairy tale wedding of epic proportion. And I am remembering it falling apart two years later, remembering the violence. But I was blessed even then, blessed to have my son, who has been the sun, the moon, and the stars in my sky. A gift like no other.
I will always remember - when I had ballett lessons in Paris in a age you should not start I was fun for the young girls, but when we had improvisation in the dark with this music I was the best!!!!
This orchestra plays the piece so gentle and sensitive. I listen this every day and still gives me a tear in my eyes. They play it like is was supposed to be played from my point of view .Greetings from the Netherlands.
Johann Pachelbel (born on 11 September in Nuremberg, Germany, and died there on 3 March 1706) was a German composer of the Baroque period. He worked as an organist in Vienna, Eisenach, Erfurt, Stuttgart, Gotha and from 1695 at the Sebalduskirche in Nuremberg.
I'm 49 and just now really starting to appreciate classical music. I've always liked a song or two here or there, but I'm slowly learning composers, songs. It's all so beautiful. Before this I mainly listened to Rock and Country music and I still do. I'm just expanding my appreciation, I guess.
@@andyc9979 Thank you Andrew. Our family does not die from cancer but he is a heavy smoker and is only 53. Lung, pancreatic and bone cancer. Thank you for your prayers.
I listen to Canon everyday, sometimes multiple times and it never fails to lift my soul up into the highest realms. Johann Pachelbel you sir were a genius 🙏
This is the most beautiful version I know of. Not only does it lift my soul, but it renews my faith. Weird that it takes music from centuries ago, to restore a soul and bring us back to the things that really matter in life.
Every comment I read here lifts my heart and brings a tear to my eye as I realise the magic of this piece not only touches my soul but thousands of others too. Thank you all for sharing your experiences and lifting the vibration of this beautiful planet we all share 🕊❤
My Mom used to play this for me when i was a a child..and says it used to make me cry EVERY time half way thru the song. She now is in the advanced stages of Dementia..but still LOVES GREENSLEEVES..
This piece was played at mine and my wife's wedding...…….she walked down the aisle of our church to this. It was her choice and it brings me to happy tears every time I listen. I love it and I love her.
With all the chaos and turmoil going on on this planet; this type of music has got to be one of mankind's greatest accomplishments. Thank you composer Pachelbel for this wonderful music.
I watched this played by a class of children with special needs, and they did it perfectly (Nakayoshi class). It made me want to cry then. Their music teacher was, in my mind, a complete genius.
I think this might be the most beautiful music ever composed. The orchestra does a superb performance. This music radiates peace and calm. It make me think of the goodness of God and being safe in His arms.
Tonetwisters every time I hear this, it brings tears to my eyes. Don’t know why it affects me so much, guess it’s just a masterpiece which touches me very deep
I couldn't disagree more. While the song is nice... it's just nice. It has a trite sounds to it, one that makes my think about living a very mediocre life and has a bland melody (although the fact that Pachelbel wrote the piece as a gift just for Bach's wedding is impressive).
As much as I enjoy the intimacy of a string quartet performing the Canon, there is nothing like the richness that a full orchestra produces. I personally think this right here is the finest performance I have ever heard. I can’t believe it has been here 10 years and I’ve only now found it.
When, such music, is played so beautifully, its just the most delightful thing to hear, an orchestra playing in unison. Thank You For Your Magnificent Skills, You All Behold So Beautifully.

For me, this is the best interpretation of the Pachelbel Canon ever created. Thank you.

I'm a 73 year old woman. Have listened and have played this piece on my piano. Always makes me want to cry 😢
THE VERY BEST!
Im 73 year old man .Me too
I will always remember - when I had ballett lessons in Paris in a age you should not start I was fun for the young girls, but when we had improvisation in the dark with this music I was the best!!!!
This orchestra plays the piece so gentle and sensitive. I listen this every day and still gives me a tear in my eyes.
They play it like is was supposed to be played from my point of view .Greetings from the Netherlands.
So interesting. In Brazil it's played commonly in the same occasions, as well in weddings. Most touching music, no matter where you are. Greetings.

Danke für die Information
He was teacher of another German genius composer: Johan Sebastian Bach

Très ému également.
I'm 49 and just now really starting to appreciate classical music. I've always liked a song or two here or there, but I'm slowly learning composers, songs. It's all so beautiful. Before this I mainly listened to Rock and Country music and I still do. I'm just expanding my appreciation, I guess.
It literally brings me to tears! The music of angels!

This is the most beautiful version I know of. Not only does it lift my soul, but it renews my faith. Weird that it takes music from centuries ago, to restore a soul and bring us back to the things that really matter in life.

This piece was played at mine and my wife's wedding...…….she walked down the aisle of our church to this. It was her choice and it brings me to happy tears every time I listen. I love it and I love her.
script A We did the same. A beautiful and moving piece.
My wedding had five orchestral pieces (...we were married in Brazil). I chose two of the five songs played at my wedding... and this was one of them.
Using this in our wedding in a few months!

We're gonna use this for our wedding too for the next 2 months.
Perhaps the most emotional instrumental piece ever written ...
Tonetwisters every time I hear this, it brings tears to my eyes. Don’t know why it affects me so much, guess it’s just a masterpiece which touches me very deep
I also cry everytime i listen to canon . Best music ever
Listen to Schindler's list a Jewish prayer to say the least
I couldn't disagree more. While the song is nice... it's just nice. It has a trite sounds to it, one that makes my think about living a very mediocre life and has a bland melody (although the fact that Pachelbel wrote the piece as a gift just for Bach's wedding is impressive).
@@scheini79 Much understood.
As much as I enjoy the intimacy of a string quartet performing the Canon, there is nothing like the richness that a full orchestra produces. I personally think this right here is the finest performance I have ever heard. I can’t believe it has been here 10 years and I’ve only now found it.
