Oh man, that “HELLO DOGGY” combined with getting in the dogs face like that 😅. Recipe for disaster.
Couldnt agree more, He went full Green Goblin with that voice!
No one's brought it up yet, but this video reminded me of how on point Paul and the band were with their music cues. "Mambo No. 5" by Lou Bega for a guy named Lou, "Stairway to Heaven" for the stair trick (duly noted by Dave), and "U Can't Touch This" for a guy named Hammer. Enhances the whole experience, and a little extra "Easter egg" (before that term came into common use) for those who picked up on it.
I love how for years after that, he continued to tell his guests about his run in with “a dingo”.
And/or a “snarling cur”
Do you remember on Seinfeld the scene where Elaine was annoyed at the newly engaged lady at a party and Elaine blurted out The Dingo ate my baby! That was because of Letterman 😊😊
I love how Jerry the retired teacher was so funny and well-spoken. Years in the classroom clearly had prepared him to deal with Dave's silliness.
Dogs hate it when you put your face in their face even more than Richard Simmons hates it when you spray him with a fire extinguisher
They hate it worse when you step on them, which is what happened.
The “no wagering” joke was always funny.
Remember kids, don't step on doggo's tail.
I loved Dave…Loved SPT…but, damn; Dave always made me nervous getting in the dogs’ faces like that. He’s lucky they never took a chomp-That’s a threat to an unfamiliar dog that’s already stressed! 😮
I’m not an animal behavior specialist, but I’m wondering if it might be a mistake to ignore the stepping on the tail aspect of this incident.
@@Some-guy-you-dont-knowyou know, I always kept seeing this clip, but never knew Dave accidentally stepped on its tail. Poor Zeke baby. But at least doggo had a great catch!
@@Some-guy-you-dont-know yes, obviously that was the case here, but he did the in-your-face thing with most of the dogs. Made me nervous.
@@Some-guy-you-dont-know He stepped on one tail, but he clearly weirded all of them out. Some dogs handle that better than others.
Oh lighten up, Francis.
At first, I thought that Zeke was going to be catching houseflies - but a dog catching baseballs, rather than snapping at bugs, was far more entertaining.
I remember watching this when it first aired. Can't remember if that cut in the video was there, but I do remember them using a slow-motion replay of the bite for one or two commercial bumps later in the show. Also, Dave kept talking about it for the rest of the week.
totally daves fault! zeke was very very lovable
Great stupid pet tricks. I lost my dog this year… she would have been in the movies as she was the most beautiful dog in the world… but I kept her to myself. Seeing dogs always makes me happy. If humans were as loving and giving as dogs…would would be drastically better place.
THANK YOU. I’d love a super cut of all the times he talks about the dingo biting his face off in reference to this moment.
Dave was pushing it with that first dog. That jack Russell was a good dog letting dave get SO close to him, stupid dave!
* edit* geeez the 2nd dog too! Dave was asking for it on that night.
Thank goodness the first two dogs didn't have a tail!
"Did he just learn how to do this?"
"No, he's known it for a while."
That dog knows a ham when it sees it.
I wonder if Zeke reminded Dave of his first wife, too?
That was a super line up of smart pups!
The way Dave kept his cool when he got bit in the face was incredible. What a pro & a total gent.
Dave seemed like he loved dogs...but also like he had never been around one in his life.
I don’t think dogs like strangers putting their faces right up to them, especially when they are probably already stressed. remember that news anchor who was doing an adoptable dogs segment, leaned over the dog on the news set to kiss it and got her mouth bitten really badly?
The Dave That Tried To Step Dog's Tail Off
I love seeing how much Dave loves dogs. He is truly a dog lover.. He knew that Zeke didn't mean to hurt him and felt bad for putting Zeke in that predicament
He loved them, but obviously had never been around them in his life. His behavior around them was always awkward and unnatural.
He got in his face, that is a form of aggression on Dave's part. He was lucky none of the other dogs tried to bite him too.
RIP in peace dog :(
Rip people's faces off in peace?
I'm gonna go get the papers, get the papers ;)
LOL out loud XD
---------------------- muskoil aftershave , Zeke went into full self preservation mode....thanks4sharing
If I was one of those dogs I would have tried to bite Dave's face off too, that "Hello Doggy" thing clearly wasn't working out for them.
Well he stepped on his tail, it was a reaction....
@@Vamatt99218 He was also being creepy & weird with them for comedic effect (note - I absolutely love Dave, but he doesn't appear to understand dogs).
@@theritchie2173
I’m a huge dog lover, but getting in the face of an unfamiliar dog is a terrible idea. Dave had it coming honestly.
@@Vamatt99218 -- That is true, but it's clear none of the dogs actually liked it. They tolerated it. Even the last dog, before the tail stepping. It makes me even more uncomfortable that when i see people dress up their pets (which they also hate).
@@trekkiejunk true, none of the dogs seemed to like being so close to his face. Not sure if dave did this ever again but i assume after that incident he changed how he greeted the animals.
Those were some great tricks!
Best late night show host EVER!!
Play stupid games, win stupid prizes!
Been watching these forever and the only thing that always put my teeth on edge was David putting face right into an animals face…an animal he didn’t know and was in extremely high energy new environment. Had to eventually happen! Couldn’t ever believe that the producers wouldn’t have told him not to do that! Man, the dog with stairs, the dog standing on owners hand, and then the catches the last one die….all incredible dogs.
Alastair won’t bite you … but Zeke will.
poor zeke got a bad wrap he was incredibly sweet dave stepped on him! hes so adorable
6:50 infamous moment - but I feel the real reason for this has been forgotten until now. Real reason: 7:02
@2:51 I noticed the horn player in the back appears to be talking to someone through his mic lol.
Bruce Kapler! Good catch, I missed that. Maybe communication with the guys in the sound booth.
Zero surprise.
Whenn someone says his dog is "half Dalmatian...," the thing to do is get thee hell outta there.
Dave was the best
Never get in a strange dogs face.
"Stupid Late Night Bloody Talk Show Hosts Tricks" would be a better title
Ah, Alister! You know how to live, buddy! Backwards.
Fix your title to Dave steps on the dog's tail. The dog does not try to bite his face off.
Dave talked all week about the dog, or dingo, that tried to bite his face off. Long running joke.
Going for the laugh bit Dave in the face.
Dave failed to heed the warnings
if that guy fell down coming down the stairs.....big lawsuit.
I love Dave, but he should have known not to put his face up to strange dogs that way. He was clearly scaring the previous one who kept running away from him
Why did they stop the animals segments on the late night shows?
I'm the guy in the second row that turned the dog around. Does that mean Dave can sue me?
Never get in an animal's face, Dave. What the heck is wrong with you? Did you learn anything?
Painful to watch a grown man essentially repeatedly challenge dogs to bite him in the face (in dog language). Love Dave otherwise but I remember watching this segment and cringing, worrying all the way through that he was going to get bitten.
Dave was stressing those dogs out. he is a stranger to them up yet he kept pushing them. it’s his own fault if he got bit.
The dog was very friendly and well trained. Dave was irritating, stepped on its tail. This had to happen. Still it was looking apologetic.
We'll be right back with Jimmy Kimmel.
by the way dave you should never put your face into a dogs face! zeke was adorable
7:10 7:57 What was edited out?
This is why kids get bit in the mouth so often. Dogs consider it rude to have a stranger get in their face. They nip their puppies faces when the puppies have bad behavior, and human skin is not as strong as puppy skin. What they may tolerate for their owners, they often won't tolerate for strangers. Don't kiss or hug dogs, it's disrespectful to them.Kissing and hugging is human behavior, not dog behavior.
6:50
What was he expecting putting his face so close to those spikes, and not minding his own movement. What a ignorance
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Dave let the dog live right? …. Right?
Wtf😂
Why would you put your face down in a strange dog's face? And why do men always clamp their hands around the dog's mouth? So aggressive
hi
Clever baby 88
Intelligente soldier 55
wow
Huh?
Dark hunter 95
See you at the rainbow bridge Zeke.
These videos just remind me most people shouldn't be allowed near animals.
The hello buddy thing Dave does is very annoying and stupid.
Not the dog's fault. You never put your face up to a dog's. I learned the hard way. I got 9 stitches in my upper lip on Thanksgiving a few years ago. 😮
They all should have bitten him. He should have let each dog smell his hand before he started groping them. Pretty rude way to handle dogs.
Like how a dog comes up and sniffs your crotch? Pretty rude of the dog. It's an animal goober, not a human.😂
Had nothing to do with letting him smell his hand. He stepped on his tail
Well, I just lost two eyes reading this comment. They're here somewhere, but I can't tell how far they rolled.
