    Watching that boat hit the waves reminds me of being in my grandpas net boat. That was over 40 years ago. Miss it a lot. Good memories. Continued luck to you!

    I am considering getting a boat and trying my hand at crabbing? What type of boat should I get? Is it vary busy up in Myrtle beach? How do you know the best place to set traps?

    • @Gr8videos
      @Gr8videos  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Carolina skiffs are nice and a yahama motor, trial and error on setting traps mostly stay close to ocean especially during winter months but have to check them daily

    I inherited a commercial crabbing license from my grandfather. I live in Maryland and was thinking about buying around 10 pots to start out. Would I be able to catch enough crabs to sell? Any other tips would be helpful and appreciated. Thanks!

    I want to start crabbing at myrtle beach where exactly would I sell them is there a couple shops on the coast or something? And how much per crab?

    • @Gr8videos
      @Gr8videos  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Local markets are best but other crabbers can be cut throat

    • @Gr8videos
      @Gr8videos  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also myrtle beach doesn't have alot of places with boat landings you'd have to use the intercoastal water way boat landing most likely, or murrels inlet or cherry grove areas, hope that helped!

    Atlantic menhaden "brevoortia tyrannus" , it's a oily fish we use better than chicken.

    People usually mess with your pots?
    I've been thinking about getting into this.

      +Justin Sellers constantly, it's really sad and they won't even close them back.

      wow. For someone looking to get into it, would you recommend it?

    • @Gr8videos
      @Gr8videos  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Justin Sellers it's a hard decision I'm scared tbh because every year they pass a new law that brings less food to the dinner table.

  • @justinsellers9799
    @justinsellers9799 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    How hard was it to find a customer to sell to?

    • @Gr8videos
      @Gr8videos  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Justin Sellers not difficult at all

    • @Gr8videos
      @Gr8videos  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Justin Sellers the price is never right and in certain fisheries laws have ruined the industry, they call it "a dieing industry".

    Didn't see anyone measuring them. minimum is 4 inches tip to tip.

    • @Gr8videos
      @Gr8videos  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +ted brown it's five inches here and they were all legal I assure you.

      damn that sucks. No size limit in Florida and all that is asked, is that we leave the females alone. No license needed for blue crab. We have 1 week of no harvest and it alternates between the Gulf and Atlantic each year.

    keeping females and crabs under 5"

    • @Gr8videos
      @Gr8videos  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      No sir every crab was measured to legal length did it for years and on another note how do you know the legal size where I am? Also I don't crab sort/cull anymore I fish for more profitable seafoods on my own.

  • @pharoahlove4721
    @pharoahlove4721 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    You need to put them female crabs back

    • @Gr8videos
      @Gr8videos  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sadly its already hard enough for a commercial fisherman to make a living, can't throw the catch back laws are laws.

    • @Gr8videos

      Very true, the seafood industry is a dieing industry.

    • @robertbeacham4314

      You keep the females, you won’t have anything left for coming years! Yea, laws are laws, but think about it.
