Beast's song "Evermore" was honestly a good addition to the songs, and, the live action more accurately portrays just how thematically dark "Kill the Beast" is.
I like the song, too. It just pisses me off that they went and composed all these new, mediocre songs when they had a full Broadway show that they have the rights to. Forevermore is good but Beast has a song very similar in the stage show called If I Can't Love Her that's better in my opinion.
@@kendallthompson2027 I had not heard If I Can't Love Her until years after I saw this movie and I wondered why they didn't just use that song instead of Evermore like Evermore is good but If I Can't Love Her gave me CHILLS
@@kendallthompson2027 EXACTLY! You hit the nail on the head. Once the Beast started singing and I DIDN'T hear "IICLH," I was completely thrown off. Even Human Again could've been a great moment in the film. Instead, we got so many many "meh" songs in comparison, excluding Evermore. 😑😒🙃
There are a lot of problems, some smaller ones really like the weird autotuning over her voice and the disappointing costumes. But the biggest for me was Belle. Belle in the animated version felt like a small town girl who dreamed of bigger things even though her neighbors don't understand why. Live action Belle felt like the big city girl who has to move to a small town and is super judgmental and feels like she is better than the other girls in town, because she's "not like other girls because she reads". Which I think affected the chemistry. Animated Belle found a kindred spirit after basically being rejected and misunderstood by her town. Live action Belle was the one who seemed to be keeping people at a distance and judging them. Like right in the first song, animated Belle is positively ecstatic when someone talks to her and basically runs after him to tell him about her book only to get brushed off. Live action Belle is approached by someone and basically is the one to brush him off and walks away even though he is actually listening to her and still asking her questions after she has walked away. Animated Belle wanted to find a kindred spirit. She wanted the fairy tale adventure. Live action Belle just wanted out. (Also live action Belle didn't feel like a romantic at all to me, she felt like the type that would watch the Titanic and be like, "that was dumb, he could have fit on the door too. Also, why toss the necklace. Couldn't she have gotten closure from selling it or donating it?") Like animated Belle was a daydreamer, head in the clouds type who was misunderstood because she wanted more but would have spent her whole life in that small town daydreaming about it rather than acting on it if fate hadn't intervened in the form of a storm and a rose. Live action was basically Hermione, practical and pragmatic, judging the town because they didn't want more, and she absolutely would have left as soon as she could after coming up with an invention to sell or plan to support herself. Plus animated Belle bonding with Beast by teaching him to read (after first reading him Romeo and Juliet while he watches dreamily before asking her to read it to him again) was a much cuter bonding scene than him scoffing at her liking Romeo and Julie in the live action.
Interesting fact: apparently it’s not actually autotuned at all. They were going for live singing rather than recording it in the studio to lip-sync to (Les Mis had just come out and made this popular), but they didn’t plan well and had to mash up clips as well as audio, which in turn made it sound awful (as if it were autotuned)
and also the fact that in the animated film, beast showed belle his library because he knew that she loved reading, but in the live action he only showed her his library so that he could brag about how many things he owned.
@@carlmclaggne Exactly. It wasn't him trying to make her happy/do something nice. It was kind of snobby and pretentious. And part of why it was sweet in the animated version is because he went in with the intention of wanting to make her happy, so even though he literally couldn't gift her a place she already would have had full access to it if she had wandered the castle and found it herself (or asking someone), him showing her to make her happy and trying to connect with her was part of the gift. Taking that away and having it be a weird flex that he's a snob who judges what limited access she has had to books, and then kind of casually allowing her to use the library, which she technically had access to, she just didn't know it was there, takes away from the gift.
Actually, in the original story of Beauty and the Beast, Belle's father was treated like a guest. So the food and fire was all set up for him. He wasn't punished for eating and heating himself up, but for simply stealing a rose from the Beast's garden. Also you are beautiful, please don't call yourself ugly.
+ AryaForce Seriously! This guy has such a amazing personality and lovely smile and infectious laugh. Also, very sweet that he cried at the emotional scenes. He is definitely a catch and whoever ends up with him is very lucky. But usually the really cute ones don’t know it. Not a bad thing though. There is too many people who are way too full of themselves in this world. His humility is refreshing.

Lol when Belle was singing and you said “She sounds not so bad, but there’s something weird there” it’s the dang autotune. I’m no musical genius and I can still hear it 😭 No offense to Emma, can’t they just find an actress who can sing well if they’re making a musical.
Same, it really took me out of the experience that they used autotune for Emma's singing (nothing wrong with her acting and I love her, just don't like the producers decisions). Why didn't they use a singer that has a similar sounding (singing) voice for Emma's singing parts? They do it for animated movies/series, why not live action?
I honestly don't think Emma singing would have been bad enough to require all the auto-tune that they use. Had they left it fairly natural, it would have sounded much better. And then when it came out the producer tried to say that they hadn't used any auto-tune at all, and I remember making a comment about it under one of the soundtrack music videos when it first came out, and I had people actually trying to fight me over It, saying that I was insulting an amazing producer by questioning what he had said 😂 like literally it's so obvious that there was auto-tuned use, I don't even know how it was an argument
@@camelliabell9046 Yeah I think you're right. Maybe Emma just couldn't hit the high notes of the songs and the producer just "helped" her out or something. It's still just very obvious they used auto-tune. My partner and I immediately caught on to it when we first saw the movie. It was hilarious for us though. 🤣 Wow, really?! Some people really don't have good hearing. Or they just don't want their favorite actress being "attacked" by a stranger on the internet. Like hello? It's the producer who did that not the actress, ya dumb dumbs.
@@Moon-Goddess With Emma’s status as a well known actress, I think most people (antis) won’t take it kindly if she needs a stand-in for singing. And everyone will know either from recognizing the voice or seeing the end credits. Sad truth. :/
@@camelliabell9046 The director said that??? Come on now, I know some singers use autotune to help here and there but here it was just too obvious 😭 I’ve never listened to Emma singing and I am guessing she is at least above average to get the role. I do understand though, Belle is universally known as one of Disney’s best singing characters so expectations are high. But that much autotune just made it worse.
The auto tune on Watson’s voice was unbearable… it was just sooooo bad. But “Evermore” slaps, tho the auto tune was a little noticeable in some parts but not as terrible as Watson’s Also the iconic “golden” dress was U G L Y gosh. The gold detailing was entirely unnoticeable. Just a terrible dress all together
I winced in the theater when I heard what they did to her voice 😭 It completely takes you out of the story. I would have MUCH rather them hire an "unknown" who could oh I don't know... act AND sing!?
So a lot of things were brought up already, but I just wanted to add some. 1. In the original, the Beast gives his enormous coolest library as a gift to Belle, bc he wants to do smth for her. In the remake, he 's just being mean and bragging to Belle (perfect way to a woman's heart - criticize her hobbies and the things she likes, tell her you have better ones!) 2. They completely changed Belle's character. In the original, Belle was sweet, soft and caring, while she liked reading the stories about adventures, fights and magic. In the remake she HITS LUMIERE and likes ROMEO AND JULIET. WTF? P.S. Glad to see, that a year later, he's still Edward to you :))
tbf Romeo and Juliet has a lot of fighting in it, and her liking Romeo and Juliet could be a hint in general to her liking Shakespeare's work, which happens to include a lot of adventures, fights and magic. and in the remaster of the animated version they have a scene where Belle and the Beast are bonding over reading Romeo and Juliet together, so it's probably a nod to that
@@E3257.StudiosEverythingAwesomehe only gifts the library in the animated movie in the live action he just shows it all flippantly, he doesn’t put thought into it it definitely makes the scene less romantic.
What irritates me is that they tried to explain why the staff were also cursed but they did it so half-assed. Ok, so they looked the other way when a tyrant mistreated his son, rather than risk their own livelihoods, families, and possibly lives? That deserves a curse? And it doesn’t explain a damn thing about Chip or the dog. WTF.
Actually the food was for him. The staff is desperate to have a guest again, so they set all of it up. In the original Lumiere and Cogsworth are actively arguing with each other about taking care of Maurice. In the live action version, they actually made it even more creepy by having it all just appear with no explanation, until Chip slides onto the table.
Petition for Welchy to react to the Twilight movies✨ you'll love it for how bad it is. Key things to consider on the movies: ✨shiny✨ skin, the character assassination of Jacob, resume or however you wanna call it, daddy Charlie and Carlisle, among many others.
What will forever irk me about this movie are the horrible choices Emma Watson made that shouldn’t even been hers. Refusing to wear historical undergarments in a historical movie because „cORseTs aREn‘T feMiNIsT“ when a) she actually would’ve worn stays and not a corset anyway b) the corset was a normal, comfortable and necessary clothing item (and were usually NOT used to thighten the waist excessivly - yes, history documentaries lied to you) c) sewing and design was pretty much the only female dominated trade during the time, helping women make an independent living for themselves without men‘s help - peak feminism She refused to learn anything about the historical fashion and instead decided to command the costume department to make Belles dress without the necessary structure. Therefore, it’s floppy and doesn’t move the way it’s supposed to during the dance scenes. All because a popular actress was on an ignorant power trip. Other changes included scenes and dialogue to „make it more empowering and more comfortable to play“. Which I find ridiculous, because Emma was hired to act, not character design or scriptwrite. If you don’t like the character, let someone else play it. (Also the fact that her voice was so heavily autotuned for all the songs makes it a bit uncanny for me, but well, not a lot of popular actors can sing so well I guess. It did really stand out against all the natural performers in the movie overall though.)
Haha, I don’t know that for sure. She had control over the majority of her own costume (noticeable because everyone else is dressed beautifully and accurately), that would usually include footwear. Or maybe the costume designers werde tried to match her, ummm, unique aesthetic.
@@nansiipii9018 Which is still an ironic statement, becouse "corsets" are literally meant to make those things (including horse riding, as a fun little extra info) a lot EASIER, and not more dificult xD
When first saw this movie I thought it was good, but when I saw it for a second time a lot of things really bothered me: 1. Emma Watson can't sing, there's a lot of notes that is clearly auto tune and comparing with the other ones is a big difference, also has no chemistry with beast so the end doesn't feel natural. 2. The banana yellow babydoll dress with no structure IS SO BAD in this context, basically because all of the others characters are in period costumes except her. 3.They clearly tried to replicate the original movie even in dialoge but in a completely different context so the lines seem really odd, also bullying belle because she teaches a girl to read is extremely weird when the story takes place in one of the few eras when almost every one was encouraging reading 🤔 Maybe I'm a little biased because beauty and the beast is one of my favorites disney animated movies. And no, you're not ugly.
omg i'd never even thought about how women were reading during that era, there were women in the aristocracy and nobility learning multiple languages and going to school from a young age, that really is odd and ig "cheap" that they added that in
I know everyone prefers the original to the live action (I'm one of them) but I do like the new songs they added (especially Evermore). And I liked the fact that they explained how no one knows about the castle in the woods close to the village, that didnt bother me as a kid, but as i got older I was like, how? Also, Luke Evans slays as Gaston🤣. And 3:42, same Welchy, same🤣🤣
I will agree with you on that. While I DO prefer the original over this version of Beauty and the Beast, I WILL SAY that this version is one of the better live action remakes that Disney has come up with. The casting, overall, is excellent....especially for Gaston and Maurice. I DO like the songs they added (especially Celine Dion's How Can A Moment Last Forever. Its beautiful. The ending legit made me CRY in the theater when my friend and I saw it. The only complaints I have for the movie is they didn't give Belle's mother a name (I have always wondered about that. It was a beautiful moment and they should have given her a name and the way they gave the Beast's MOST IMPORTANT LINE (confessing that he loves Belle) to Mrs. Potts. Yes, the Evermore song was beautiful. It was a heartfelt scene. But he should have said the line. Its a crucial moment in the story and the Beast's character arc. He has to learn to love another and earn her love in return or he'll be doomed to remain a Beast forever. HE MAKES THAT SACRIFICE....choosing to let Belle go to save her father, KNOWING that this was the price he would pay. He says he loves her and that's why he let her go. That's why he was willing to change for her. Which makes the ending all the more perfect when she loves him too.
I think the problem with this is they got everything that made the original good and just completely twisted it. Belle fell in love with the beast naturally, not even knowing he was a man that got transformed. In this she knows about the curse. The townspeople were weirded out by Belle, but never were mean to her. In this they publicly shame her, which made their redemption at the end even weirder. Gaston was a popular, mean guy. At the end, he got the mob by his side because everyone looked up to him. In this the townspeople don't really respect him (LeFou pays them to sing in the Gaston song) and even give Maurice the benefit of the doubt when he accuses Gaston. That just makes him less compelling as a villain. And as a whole there were just little bad details that made the whole thing miserable. The awful dress, the half assed "feminist" improvements on Belle's character, the poorly explained power of the magic book, the shameless queer baiting with LeFou, the absence of chemistry between the actors and many other things. They tried to make the original "better", but made it worse by not deeply understanding what made the original so good: it was a love story. Not a story about Belle's mom, about LeFou being in the closet, about the Enchantress or the furniture's families. Belle and the Beast didn't get enough time to develop organically as a couple. Also the Beast is a total asshole in this even by the end of the movie lol
everything. true. no lies detected. plus didn anyone else hate Emma watson's acting in this? i usually can look past bad acting but her's just pulled me right out and It was hard to get back in the movie again. her dress looked like a mid 2010's prom dress and stands waaaaay out from the other clothing styles in the movie. I always tell people when we bring up dinsey remakes that, its one thing to remake a movie and fail at it, but it takes a special kind of dumb skill to remake your OWN movie that you have a vault of concept art, story notes, working notes on why things were done the way they were, staff that worked on it and more, and yet STILL fail and miss the whole idea of what the OG story was about.
You perfectly summed it up!!! Also, my opinion, I don’t like what they did with the furniture, they were too stiff, the animation version was way better.
@@jacktheflash8478 most I think do. But most companies don't remake their old content, at least not on the scale Disney does. Some companies reboot franchises, but even then, I think most of those are now under Disney with the exception of a few. And even then, most reboots have failed as well. But with those, they aren't remaking the same movie, it's different script and settings and such. With Disney, it's the exact same story and concept and characters, yet they still fail to capture the original concept such as story beats, character motivations, why certain scenes were put into the story and when and why that matters. To smaller gripes like voice acting, music, composition, and added scenes and story beats that don't matter or add anything to the over arching story. The 2019 lion king is the better example of these issues, imo.
0:44 okay so it’s already on the screen there, but the Cinderella remake is actually one of the best Disney remakes ever I think and it’s one of my absolute favourite movies. The chemistry is so good, despite the kind of awkward trope of “I’ve just met you so let’s get married” and the production is so great. I would love to see you do that movie, cause your reactions are seriously always so great to watch!
Hey Welchy, I'm really sorry to hear about your loss.. I lost my dad over a year ago now and it still hurts. But i wanted to thank you for being so real in your reactions. Showing emotion is a definite sign of strength and confidence and it's really refreshing to see💗 love your content (and accent) as always
Honestly, my favorite parts of this movie was the part where the one guy who was put in a dress liked it and the songs 'Evermore', 'How Can A Moment Last Forever', and 'The Mob Song.' I like this version of 'The Mob Song' because of LeFou's (Gaston's sidekick) line "There's a beast running wild, there's no question. But I fear the wrong monster's released." I love this single line so much.
The Beast's human name is Prince Adam, Welchy! It's never outright stated in either film, but Disney did release the name after the fact. I am almost certain that no one ever uses it.
The thing that bothers me the most is that they got Emma to try and sing as Belle. Emma is not a singer and never has been a singer. No hate on her behalf, I respect her for trying, but genuinely they could have done a much better job with casting Belle. They casted multiple Broadway actors that have sung and have experience. I remember seeing the film in theaters when I was younger and finding it quite boring. Even with everything being all glitter and glam it did not appeal. I myself have a natural sense when it comes to music. I am also trained in music, and listing to her sing was awful. The robotic sound to her voice hurts so much. No vibrato at all. Plain, flat notes. They tried to put a vibrato filter in but it sounds extremely fake. @Wings of Pegasus did a amazing video explaining the difference between Paige O'Hara and Emma Watson's voices.
I love how we can tell that this Beast is a negging fake intellectual bc he thinks Romeo and Juliet is a 100% surface-level romance when it's actually a tragic car accident happening in the slowest motion possible, _and_ _that's_ _the_ _whole_ _point_ _of_ _the_ _play._ The published name is literally The _Tragedy_ of Romeo and Juliet.
Yeah overall, not the worst remake. It definitely has nice parts & is visually beautiful. Don’t worry about crying over furniture. If Disney has mastered anything, it’s making us cry over things we didn’t think would ever get us emotional. Especially if we have stuff going on personally. My condolences on your loss ❤️
Hey Welchy! Have you ever heard of Bolt (2008)? It's animated Disney movie, main character is a dog, and the plot is... quite unique for Disney. It's very good, but almost no one seems to talk about it nowdays.
I remember being SO excited for this movie, since Beauty and the Beast is my favorite Disney movie. Belle, my favorite Princess. ....And then Emma Watson started to sing with that painfully sickening autotune and I felt completely disheartened, because I knew exactly what this movie was gonna do to my emotions in the wrong ways. And looking back now just before I start watching this video, there were only TWO things about this movie I loved, and that was "Evermore," and my striking realization when the credits hit that Ewan McGregor played Lumiere, because despite my love of him, and knowing his singing from Moulin Rouge, I did not realize it was him. XD
Can we appreciate how the horse got bitten by Wolf und still manages to carry the Beast and Belle back to the castle? Tale as old as Time was sung in original by Angela Lansbury who also spoke Madame Pottine. So in this one it's by Emma Thompson :) And don't call yourself ugly ever again, 'cause you're clearly aren't
My blood boils like lava throughout this entire movie because you can just hear the autotune with Emma Watson. The best singers by far were Dame Emma Thompson and Audra McDonald. They saved the movie. Emma has the sweetest most beautiful voice for singing lullabies. I could fall asleep to her voice. And Audra.....she is a powerhouse. Not only can she hit high notes but her voice is just so powerful that she could break windows. Her vibrato is so incredible. I hated the way they made the wardrobe look, they made the wardrobe super super scary looking. If I were Belle I would have just passed out on the spot. Which is such a bummer because Audra did an amazing job. Dan Stevens did a good job with his singing but I just hate everything about the Beast especially the way the animators chose to make him look. And the Beast is way less sympathetic in this version. Take for example the scene where Belle takes her father's place as a prisoner and the Beast sends him away. When we come back to Belle in her little cell in the animated version, it's the BEAST who chooses on his own to let Belle out of the tower and give her a nice bedroom to stay in. And when he walks into the cell and sees her crying you can see the look on his face that he already feels bad for Belle and deep down knows what he's doing is wrong. The Beast is so emotional in the animated version and you can see his emotions on his face whether it's sadness, guilt, happiness or anger. In this version the Beast is just nothing but a jerk and shows absolutely no guilt or remorse for what he's doing to Belle. And the animators were super lazy because you can't even see the Beast's feelings on his face. Even towards the middle of the story when he's happier he barely even smiles. And going back to that scene, in this version it's Lumiere and Cogsworth who offer Belle a bedroom instead of the Beast. It makes a huge difference because in the animated version with the Beast making that offer, it's the first time he shows us that there is in fact goodness in him. And in the animated version the Beast actually speaks his feelings even in the beginning before he becomes a better person. He admits that he thinks Belle is beautiful and that she could never wants someone like him, He voices his sadness that Belle will always see him as a monster, and before the library scene we don't just get him doing this for Belle out of freaking nowhere like this new version. We see him admitting what's in his heart, that he's never felt this way about anyone (a line that still warms my heart to this day) and says blatantly that he wants to do something nice for her. I can't criticize Dan's acting because he is a great actor and did the best he could with such a terrible script and such a terrible role to play. And after the Beast saves Belle from the wolves we get to see them argue and see Belle really showing the Beast who's boss but we also get to see Belle actually thanking the Beast for saving her while tending to his wounds. The Beast being surprised at someone showing him kindness and something he did actually being appreciated because all he ever does is hurt people. There is so much to love about the animated version and so much to hate about this one. Mostly because they took away everything we loved about the original.
I feel like the people who make these movies don’t have any grasp of subtlety or showing vs telling. There’s no understanding of character development. They think they can just vomit up lines verbatim and we’ll all fall to our knees.
"Damn you even have kids bullying you?!" I'm a middle school teacher - my life is getting bullied by kids. I'm in my 20s, and they asked about my grandkids last week 😂
As someone who grew up loving the animation beauty and the beast and I watched the live action when it first came out and yeah I did like it because it was nostalgic. But watching it in 2020 again I notice how it isn't like the animation and how they did belle dirty by making her more "girl boss" and not a strong girly girl which she is. I didn't like how Emma changed most things about belle. I also didn't like that they made the villagers hate belle becsuse she read , that's not why they don't like her. They didn't like her because she was odd, she's in her own world, not talking to others and she is smart for a girl back in the day, that's why she was odd. Because they were intimated by her intelligence. But I did like their new songs, they were bops mostly "evermore". It's fine if you like this movie, this is only my opinion, I'm happy if you enjoy this movie 💛💙 Edit - I will the think I did like about this movie is seeing the furniture dying because that was emotional as fuck, and at the end when the beas who is human now growls because belle saod something about missing him being a beast. That was the best scene 10/10 foe that scene. 2/10 overall for the movie
@@nansiipii9018 yes she can be. But on the live action she is more masculine than feminine and there's nothing erong eith that. But in the animation belle was already strong but also feminine but they took that out becsuse they didn't see it that way. Emma chnaged some traits of the character belle
so much bugs me with this remake, I saw it in theaters cause beauty and the beast is one of my fav disney movies, and I was so disappointed in this one. Emma's acting took me out, I hated her dress and the additive little things they did with Bell, the music . the ONLY thing I liked was Gaston (ironically). and the animation (I'm an animator and I can't stand the new disney animations especially in this one) they look floaty and the designs! my last gripe (I swear lol) is how they introduced the old woman. like they're having a party and she just breaks in, like bro, no you can't stay in my house you axe murdering crazy person. idgaf if you're ugly or young, get out.
I absolutely hated the remake and I think the original animated movie was great. My problems are 1. This movie has a lot of scenes and dialogue copied and pasted from the original movie, and the stuff it does add makes no sense or unneeded. Like do we care about happened to Belle’s mom. 2. A lot of the acting and singing isn’t all that great. Especially from Waston she can’t sing well and her acting is okay in this movie.Speaking of 3. Beast and Belle have no chemistry like every scene they have together they just yell and bicker at each other. 4. They made the sorceress lady look like a villain. And don’t get me the original she wasn’t all that great but a least she didn’t break into the castle and get upset for being asked to leave. And there were people gonna be like “just forget about the original and judge it for what it is” No! The original was special it was part of the Disney renaissance and it was the first animated movie to be nominated for best picture. You’re just be “forget about the original” I can’t you’re reminding me of it right now! Do I hate all remakes, no. I like 101 Dalmatians remake. Yeah I know I’m weird.
@@RhetoricalThrill The Lion King (2019) was somewhat like that. Every scene looked like they tried to do what the original did, but at the same time didn't understand why the original worked so it was just weird. There's also moments where it's like they felt they had to fill the space, but didn't have strong ideas for what to fill it with. It wasn't different enough to be a new story with similar elements, but it didn't do what the original did well either.
The live action 101 Dalmatians from the early 2000s (I wanna say it was called 102 Dalmatians, was about the spotless one named Oddball) was a very good Disney live action adaption. It is unarguably the only good live action version of a classic that Disney ever did.
@@bichputin4763 the live action jungle book they did in the 90s I always thought was decent. Cary Elwes, John Cleese, Sam Niel, Jason Scott Lee. Among a few other live action remakes from before this big trend to redo all of them and poorly. (although the new jungle book remake is OK and imo one of the better of the new remakes, the Netflix one by Andy Serkis was better)
The reason this Beauty and the Beast fails is, in my eyes, they said "well we've already got the story, we just convert it to live action" and went and breezed through filming the important stuff. Then they realized "oh shoot, we still need like thirty minutes of footage to fill out the timestamp." So they added some subplots that don't really go anywhere to pad the timer. This results in the important bits of the movie feeling rushed, while other parts feel stretched out, and the pacing whiplash throws you for a loop. That's my interpretation anyway.
Honestly they did a good job with the cast, especially the BEAST...XD also I really enjoyed your reaction to this! You've just gained a new subscriber :)
The fact that this movie, with all its in the face flaws, is what I consider to be one of the better live action remakes says something. I don't think Disney will ever again create a remake with as much perfection as the Cinderella remake that came out before this
The Lady and The Tramp remake is awesome too, even better than the original one. I mean, I got upset when the remake cut the car accident scene, but still, it's awesome.
I actually adored the song Evermore, it’s one of my favorites of the whole film! Also you should watch the remake Cinderella if you’re already on this train, since the original story is so bland they’re actually able to do a bit more with it and I thought it was really fun :)
Beast's song "Evermore" is alright but it is negated by "If I Can't Love Her" from the broadway show. In fact it is infuriating that they made so many new songs when the musical was RIGHT THERE for them to take from
The crazy thing is during the period this movie is set, people would have been very ready to believe there was a monstrous beast and talking tableware. They would have thought it was the work of the devil and had to be destroyed, which would give a plausible explanation as to how easily Gaston is able to convince the villagers to attack the castle.
The library in town is pretty accurate because books in those times took time to make and not mass produced as they are nowadays. Beast and Gaston both needed better actors, the ones playing them are great actors just not meant for Gaston and Beast. Gaston’s actor should’ve been someone beefy like Henry Cavill, a wrestler body because in the animation Gaston was jacked up. He could lift three girls on a bench up with one arm. Beast okay the prince could be a little thinner because as a beast his muscles and appearance would be bigger and once he transformed he may lose some of that muscle but not like Hulk vs Banner muscle difference. Overall I don’t hate this version of B&B but it is not my favorite. I have read at least ten books versions seen a variety of film adaptations of B&B so I treated this film as not an adaptation of an animated but instead as a new adaptation. My favorite B&B continues to be a book version of tale which I really wish there was a movie adaptation of Robin McKinley’s Beauty.
The remakes of "Alice in Wonderland (2010) and "Alice through the looking glass", Cinderella (2015), and Cruella (2021) is really cool. If you like death, these movies have ones, especially Alice in Wonderland! 🙂🔥⭐
The two Alice movies are amazing and no one can change my mind. Cinderella too, I LOVE the casting for that film. Cruella is ok I guess, it's just so distant from the actual character that I wonder if it really was necessary for it to be about her...
Autotune...that's what it is. Everything else in this film I actually like, except how horrendously they autotuned Emma Watson to the point where she sounds the same with no emotion no matter what she sings. The autotuned on Beast I get for the beastly growl. But Luke Evans is noticeably the best singer simply because he's no autotuned...but he's also just a good singer all around and kills the role.
The issue with this remake is they tried tu push and agenda and :fix"what didn't need to be fixed . -In this one the beast is a jerk and a brute he needs to be told that belle could be the one that brikes the spell and he is like: " ugh!! But he is a commoner!!"dude have you learn nothing??? and instead to giving her the library as a sign of gratitude he is just showing off because Belle only read stupid things -gaston being a soldier with PTSD shiuld i feel sorry for him?but then a psyco that turned on by violence i didnt understand it - the story with the moms yea they died we already know that it doesnt add somethign to the plot if belle mom died for the plague and why his father didn't want to talk about her ? - the explenation of the servants being punished becuse they didn't stop their master a King from beating his son is stupid and making them die fir it is even worst!! - now because everybody is gonna die from the spell the moment when the beast lets go belle is now instead of a moment of growth a moment of selfesnes because he is risking everybodyelse life - the book of teletransportation why didn't they used it to go with maurice? - Are you telling me the faire punished the beast , all the servants, their families because she was rejected but did nothing when gaston was beating maurice? ok ... - belle and beast had more scenes togheter in the animated movie than here - the fucking autotune
i love that you said the song evermore was one of your faves and underated cuz it is my most fave song in the whole movie. it's not in the original but honestly , i feel like it gave the beast more of a loving feel to him. i feel like it showed you that he atcually really loved her and felt the anguish of losing her and to his knowledge never seiing her again. the song Evermore is one of my most faves and im glad its one of yours too. ^o^/
Beauty and the beast was sung by Emma Thompson and il be honest like I said from previous comment when I visited restaurant in Florida they played the music and one was this song…it’s really magical. When I saw fireworks at night and Angela langesbury voice it makes me cry a lot.
Im am such a big disney Fan. Always have been. And beauty and the beast was my absolute fav growing up. But still i prefer the newer one, it just feels more thought out and just as magical. And evermore IS SO GOOD. i also like lefou being more than just the mindless follower and his line "whos really the beast" is just mesmerizing!
@@RhetoricalThrill No worries. What gives it away is this ‘overly clean’ quality to her singing voice, and durning certain moments (higher notes in particular) there’d be a weird twang in her voice, kind of an immediate dip. The best equivalent I can give is seeing a frame or two gets skipped in a video
If I had a nickel for every time Welchy mentioned the power of the mirror, I’d have two nickels. Which isn’t a lot, but it’s strange that it’s happened twice
Disclaimer: I think the animated Disney classic is leagues beyond the live action, however there are a few things the live action did well compared to the rest of the live action remakes. One being the Beast himself Many people who are just in love with the animated HATED the changes they made to the Beast in the live action, not taking into consideration a few factors. Here's why the animated Beast works: In this version, Adam (I don't care if his name isn't technically canon, that's what I call him) was cursed as an 11 year old. He was young, perhaps parentless, wasn't taught how to properly engage with people or how to treat women. Therefore, the way the romance works when he meets Belle is that she is able to help him become a man (both in terms of his humanity and his adulthood). She shows him the love and guidance he never had. Now here's why the live action Beast works: In this one, Adam is cursed as an adult. He was sophisticated, always surrounded by women, and he ran his kingdom however he wanted. He knew what treating people with decency looks like, he just didn't care. With the maturing factor out of the equation, what exactly could Belle and the Beast bond over? On the surface, there's not much difference between him and Gaston. That's where the sophistication comes into play. Since this Beast grew up in luxury as a prince with a father, he was educated and well-spoken. What is Belle's only passion? Books! In the animated, the books come into play because Beast gifted her a library as a thank you and he liked listening to her read, she even helped him read. This more intelligent Beast can actually have conversations with her about the books. He liked listening to her read too, not because he's never had someone read to him before but because he hasn't heard someone read in a LONG time. Of the two, the live action Beast is actually probably the most faithful to the source material. Both romances were convincing. Each film utilized Adam's backstory differently and arranged the romances to reflect that. Again, as a movie I think the animated blows the live action out of the water, but I do give it credit for taking a different route.
Oh yeah i just remembered something about the cartoon of Beauty & the Beast in the cartoon Gaston used a bow & arrows to shoot Beast with instead of a flintlock pistol
The thing I can't get over with the Beast's visuals is that he has no snout or anything "beastly" in the face. Specifically his mouth makes him look very human, and very uncanny. If they added a more goat/wolflike mouth and nose to wrap around the features, I do think it would've salvaged it.
Disney needs to stop making these cash grab remakes. I'd like to see them make more original movies based off their rides at the Disney parks like they did with Jungle Cruise
Out of all the additions they made to the movie, my favourite line is when Lafou sings “there’s a beast in these woods there’s no question, but I fear there are monsters released”. That line slaps.
I watched your other reaction to the original movie before watching this one and i think it‘s so funny how you say the exact same things to certain scenes like in the other reaction😂
I think the reason why the music sounded off in the beginning is because it's probably edited audio In contrast to how technology was back when the animated beauty and the beast was released (so it doesn't sound equally natural) Also the sound could be off because alot of people in the live action movie sound British even tho they're of French origin
By far my least favorite thing about the live action movie, is that Chip wasn't the hero like in the original. I guess it makes a bit more sense realistically, but also, FURNITURE THAT SINGS AND TALKS IS NOT NORMAL!! Justice for my boy Chip 😔✊
The original was nominated for best picture (as in from all movies of the year) in oscars and pretty much single handedly caused them to add best animated picture to the list. It also won two oscars for music and score... Yeah let's remake this shit. We surely do a better job now...
I went to Florida magic kingdom and went to be our guest restaurant, you can meet the beast and have fine dining was amazing…can eat in like the ballroom or west wing. We sat in ballroom. Was so like the film.
You have good instincts. They autotuned the hell out of Emma's voice which would be why it feels off. They honestly could've just let her sing it normally and it would've been fine. Good instincts about Agatha too. She is indeed the enchantress disguised as a spinster
In the original animated movie Adam was an Eleven y/o. I fell asleep accidentally in the theater when I saw this and I was so sad. I saw this movie last week. 4:44 I recently Gojnf out life action Maurice is played by Kevin Kline. Who played Phoebus in Hunchback of Notre dame and Tulio in El dorado. 5:07 WHAT?! 5:36 Belle is supposed to be 17. 9:16 Olaf.
Not as good as the original for me, but I enjoyed the childhood nostalgia (plus the new Evermore song). Actually showing the furniture "dying" broke me too! Even knowing they're all fine in the end lol (New viewer here! I found your channel from your Tangled video a few weeks ago and you crack me up Welchy 🤣 Keep up the good work sir 👌Also sorry to hear about your family member 💕)
Hi fella! When I was little I had a horrific nightmare that all the people I loved were having themselves killed and mummified. These Disney remakes remind me of that nightmare.
I totally agree with you that “Be Our Guest” is the worst song. I literally hate it so much. I remember watching this movie in the theaters and I was so bored during that number. “Evermore”slaps and goes so hard, have to sing that song like 3 times every time I hear it
Beast's song "Evermore" was honestly a good addition to the songs, and, the live action more accurately portrays just how thematically dark "Kill the Beast" is.
... I feel asleep during the song 🥲🥲🥲🥲 I died from over exposure 😂😂😂
They should have done 'If I Can't Love Her' imo
I agree with all of this
Interesting fact: apparently it’s not actually autotuned at all. They were going for live singing rather than recording it in the studio to lip-sync to (Les Mis had just come out and made this popular), but they didn’t plan well and had to mash up clips as well as audio, which in turn made it sound awful (as if it were autotuned)
PREACH
and also the fact that in the animated film, beast showed belle his library because he knew that she loved reading, but in the live action he only showed her his library so that he could brag about how many things he owned.

Seriously!

Wow, really?!
Come on now, I know some singers use autotune to help here and there but here it was just too obvious 😭
I’ve never listened to Emma singing and I am guessing she is at least above average to get the role. I do understand though, Belle is universally known as one of Disney’s best singing characters so expectations are high. But that much autotune just made it worse.
The auto tune on Watson’s voice was unbearable… it was just sooooo bad.
But “Evermore” slaps, tho the auto tune was a little noticeable in some parts but not as terrible as Watson’s
Also the iconic “golden” dress was U G L Y gosh. The gold detailing was entirely unnoticeable. Just a terrible dress all together
I winced in the theater when I heard what they did to her voice 😭 It completely takes you out of the story. I would have MUCH rather them hire an "unknown" who could oh I don't know... act AND sing!?
the dress was so weird that seamstress has made incredible costumes before but just failed here i dont understand why

@@idaf3028 so?
So a lot of things were brought up already, but I just wanted to add some.
1. In the original, the Beast gives his enormous coolest library as a gift to Belle, bc he wants to do smth for her. In the remake, he 's just being mean and bragging to Belle (perfect way to a woman's heart - criticize her hobbies and the things she likes, tell her you have better ones!)
2. They completely changed Belle's character. In the original, Belle was sweet, soft and caring, while she liked reading the stories about adventures, fights and magic. In the remake she HITS LUMIERE and likes ROMEO AND JULIET. WTF?
P.S. Glad to see, that a year later, he's still Edward to you :))
tbf Romeo and Juliet has a lot of fighting in it, and her liking Romeo and Juliet could be a hint in general to her liking Shakespeare's work, which happens to include a lot of adventures, fights and magic.
and in the remaster of the animated version they have a scene where Belle and the Beast are bonding over reading Romeo and Juliet together, so it's probably a nod to that
Yeah somebody hasn't read the actual play.
When did he ever criticize her hobbies? He literally gave her a whole library when he found she liked books!!
I mean...
WTF.
Justice for the staff like 😂
… they did that in the musical too.
Honestly the Enchantress was the real monster here.

What will forever irk me about this movie are the horrible choices Emma Watson made that shouldn’t even been hers.
Refusing to wear historical undergarments in a historical movie because „cORseTs aREn‘T feMiNIsT“ when
a) she actually would’ve worn stays and not a corset anyway
b) the corset was a normal, comfortable and necessary clothing item (and were usually NOT used to thighten the waist excessivly - yes, history documentaries lied to you)
c) sewing and design was pretty much the only female dominated trade during the time, helping women make an independent living for themselves without men‘s help - peak feminism
She refused to learn anything about the historical fashion and instead decided to command the costume department to make Belles dress without the necessary structure.
Were the hideous hiking boots her call too? I swear those grated on me so badly.
Haha, I don’t know that for sure.
She had control over the majority of her own costume (noticeable because everyone else is dressed beautifully and accurately), that would usually include footwear. Or maybe the costume designers werde tried to match her, ummm, unique aesthetic.
They all are wrong she didn't say corset aren't feminist she said it was alot of hours of walking and singing and it was hard to do it in a corset
@@unhappyoption5910 whoever decided the dress should be bright yellow instead of gold should be in jail.
@@nansiipii9018 Which is still an ironic statement, becouse "corsets" are literally meant to make those things (including horse riding, as a fun little extra info) a lot EASIER, and not more dificult xD
When first saw this movie I thought it was good, but when I saw it for a second time a lot of things really bothered me:
3.They clearly tried to replicate the original movie even in dialoge but in a completely different context so the lines seem really odd, also bullying belle because she teaches a girl to read is extremely weird when the story takes place in one of the few eras when almost every one was encouraging reading 🤔
Maybe I'm a little biased because beauty and the beast is one of my favorites disney animated movies.
And 3:42, same Welchy, same🤣🤣
Same and I really liked Days in the Sun it's a beautiful song even though it's sad
Spitting facts 👏
everything. true. no lies detected. plus didn anyone else hate Emma watson's acting in this? i usually can look past bad acting but her's just pulled me right out and It was hard to get back in the movie again. her dress looked like a mid 2010's prom dress and stands waaaaay out from the other clothing styles in the movie.
@@Meleena2218 wouldn’t most companies have that for their old movies?
But I fear the wrong monster's released." I love this single line so much.
what's off about belle's dress is the shape and structure of it. they made it so flimsy and not sturdy or grand looking
I also wish it wasn't such a flat looking plain yellow...it should've been a really sparkly gold
"Imagine loosing to furniture"
We do that everytime we hit the furniture conners. It hurts so bad
The Beast's human name is Prince Adam, Welchy! It's never outright stated in either film, but Disney did release the name after the fact. I am almost certain that no one ever uses it.
This is Welchy's highest peak: crying at furniture.
I love how we can tell that this Beast is a negging fake intellectual bc he thinks Romeo and Juliet is a 100% surface-level romance when it's actually a tragic car accident happening in the slowest motion possible, _and_ _that's_ _the_ _whole_ _point_ _of_ _the_ _play._ The published name is literally The _Tragedy_ of Romeo and Juliet.
this version of the Beast would suck irl tbh, I can already picture his tinder profile

Omg! Yes
And don't call yourself ugly ever again, 'cause you're clearly aren't
Humans don’t deserve horses
@@RhetoricalThrill Pretty much.
Damn thats alot of words
"Damn you even have kids bullying you?!"
I'm a middle school teacher - my life is getting bullied by kids. I'm in my 20s, and they asked about my grandkids last week 😂
I'm in my 20s and a lunch lady and I feel this 😭
Kids are mean! No matter how old you are, they don't care lol
It's fine if you like this movie, this is only my opinion, I'm happy if you enjoy this movie 💛💙
Edit - I will the think I did like about this movie is seeing the furniture dying because that was emotional as fuck, and at the end when the beas who is human now growls because belle saod something about missing him being a beast. That was the best scene 10/10 foe that scene. 2/10 overall for the movie
The end is pretty solid, I think it’s the best part.
I agree, it was perfect
Bro stop with the girly girl she is a girly girl in this movie too
@@nansiipii9018 yes she can be. But on the live action she is more masculine than feminine and there's nothing erong eith that. But in the animation belle was already strong but also feminine but they took that out becsuse they didn't see it that way. Emma chnaged some traits of the character belle
@@honey_koo bro how is she masculine?! She is so feminen .. feminenty in animation and real life are diffrent
so much bugs me with this remake, I saw it in theaters cause beauty and the beast is one of my fav disney movies, and I was so disappointed in this one.
My problems are
1. This movie has a lot of scenes and dialogue copied and pasted from the original movie, and the stuff it does add makes no sense or unneeded. Like do we care about happened to Belle’s mom.
2. A lot of the acting and singing isn’t all that great. Especially from Waston she can’t sing well and her acting is okay in this movie.Speaking of
I think they suffer most when they can’t decide whether to be a shot-for-shot copy or a new thing. They try to do both, and fail miserably.
@@bichputin4763 Actually, 102 Dalmatians was the sequel to the live action 101 Dalmatians.
My sincerest condolences. I think everyone knows how it is to loose someone, so don’t worry about crying over furniture.
I strongly recommend watching The Book of Life. It's one of those films that you don't hear about, but definitely deserves to be seen.
Your disappointed scowl over Belle's dress reveal was GOLD, no pun intended!
Honestly they did a good job with the cast, especially the BEAST...XD also I really enjoyed your reaction to this! You've just gained a new subscriber :)
Ayee new Umbrella! Welcome!
@@RodrickMarsMoon Agreed!
@@RodrickMarsMoon also maleficant!

In fact it is infuriating that they made so many new songs when the musical was RIGHT THERE for them to take from
Basically, they wanted contenders for Best Original Song as Oscar-bait.
first of all my condolences, second i really love your reactions and allwaays look forward to them. please keep the good content up :)
The crazy thing is during the period this movie is set, people would have been very ready to believe there was a monstrous beast and talking tableware. They would have thought it was the work of the devil and had to be destroyed, which would give a plausible explanation as to how easily Gaston is able to convince the villagers to attack the castle.
Good for welchy for hitting 60k subscribers 👏
But he is a commoner!!"dude have you learn nothing??? and instead to giving her the library as a sign of gratitude he is just showing off because Belle only read stupid things
-gaston being a soldier with PTSD shiuld i feel sorry for him?but then a psyco that turned on by violence i didnt understand it
- the story with the moms yea they died we already know that it doesnt add somethign to the plot if belle mom died for the plague and why his father didn't want to talk about her ?
- the explenation of the servants being punished becuse they didn't stop their master a King from beating his son is stupid and making them die fir it is even worst!!
- now because everybody is gonna die from the spell the moment when the beast lets go belle is now instead of a moment of growth a moment of selfesnes because he is risking everybodyelse life
- the book of teletransportation why didn't they used it to go with maurice?
- Are you telling me the faire punished the beast , all the servants, their families because she was rejected but did nothing when gaston was beating maurice? ok ...
- belle and beast had more scenes togheter in the animated movie than here
- the fucking autotune
"I dont know what that means"
"How do you not? You live in France."
Wait I never thought about this this is such a good point though---
I'm sorry for your loss. And they are in a better place are watching over you ^^But I'm sure you know that ❤️I wish you and your family strength.
That song “evermore,” Edwards song” was actually my favorite song ever for a long period of time.
No sweat to the crying man your reaction to it would be my fourth time seeing it I get teary eyed every single time on the death scenes
i love that you said the song evermore was one of your faves and underated cuz it is my most fave song in the whole movie. it's not in the original but honestly , i feel like it gave the beast more of a loving feel to him. i feel like it showed you that he atcually really loved her and felt the anguish of losing her and to his knowledge never seiing her again. the song Evermore is one of my most faves and im glad its one of yours too. ^o^/
Beauty and the beast was sung by Emma Thompson and il be honest like I said from previous comment when I visited restaurant in Florida they played the music and one was this song…it’s really magical. When I saw fireworks at night and Angela langesbury voice it makes me cry a lot.
I'm sorry for your loss Welchy I hope you're doing better
How dare you call yourself ugly, Welchy you are definitely not!
I _LOVE_ the Beast's light blue suit at the end. It is so beautifully handsome and I want one! 😍

I didn’t know. I should have guessed but I’m not musically proficient 😂

Disclaimer: I think the animated Disney classic is leagues beyond the live action, however there are a few things the live action did well compared to the rest of the live action remakes. One being the Beast himself
Many people who are just in love with the animated HATED the changes they made to the Beast in the live action, not taking into consideration a few factors.
Here's why the animated Beast works:
In this version, Adam (I don't care if his name isn't technically canon, that's what I call him) was cursed as an 11 year old. He was young, perhaps parentless, wasn't taught how to properly engage with people or how to treat women. Therefore, the way the romance works when he meets Belle is that she is able to help him become a man (both in terms of his humanity and his adulthood). She shows him the love and guidance he never had.
Now here's why the live action Beast works:
In this one, Adam is cursed as an adult.
No one mentions that the witch stole the rose from his own garden.
The more I’ve been thinking about this movie the more I thought that Emma watsons Belle reminded me Bella from twilight 🤣
My condolences on your loss, Welchy
The thing I can't get over with the Beast's visuals is that he has no snout or anything "beastly" in the face. Specifically his mouth makes him look very human, and very uncanny. If they added a more goat/wolflike mouth and nose to wrap around the features, I do think it would've salvaged it.
20:20 Bro, my little sisters were OBSESSED with this song when it first came out! XD
for the record "evermore" was my favorite song since I watched the movie as an 8-year-old, it needed to exist
No way really 😂
@@Welchy yesss hahaha
I just want someone to look at me with the amount of love Welchy showed for Gaston’s death in the original Beauty & The Beast movie
I'm sorry for the family member you lost😣 sending worm hugs
Awww Welchy!!🥺 hope your okay, it's okay I cried to 😭
I'm glad you did this movie because this is actually my favourite Disney remake.
Heya welchy, loved the vid, I just wanted to recommend the live action cinderella that disney made. It's really good and I think you'd enjoy it. ❤❤❤
So sorry for ur loss welchy💔
Welchy being scared by the wardrobe was so funny 🤣🤣
I think the reason why the music sounded off in the beginning is because it's probably edited audio
In contrast to how technology was back when the animated beauty and the beast was released (so it doesn't sound equally natural)
Also the sound could be off because alot of people in the live action movie sound British even tho they're of French origin
3:23 it’s the auto tune my man 💀 Idk who mixed the music in this, but it’s painfully obvious whenever Emma sings
Yeah some reason I completely forgot auto tune exists in movies 😂
The fun thing about watching "be our guest" scene is that throughout the whole thing you never see her take a single bite of food
I really enjoyed this movie when i first watched it both the cartoon & the live-action & during the Evermore song & during Beast's death scene i cried
Welchy Netflix has added a whole bunch of other barbie movies that I want to see u watch!
Whenever Emma sings, I now think of the meme video of “Girl stfu you thought you ate that 🤣🤣🤣” no hate to her. But she’s better off as Hermione 😅
She’s terribly miscast.
I’m sorry for your loss Welchy
