You want to be in the vampire gang but you want to just be in that town... and listen to the best damn shirtless sax solo ever. Haha!! The movie was a cultural party. Love it!! People are strange, when you're a stranger...
I remember this movie because my dad watched it often when i was a kid. I actually watched it recently and it holds up to the day i think. Especially the style of Vampires.
I am writing a Vampire Novel of my own and the Lost Boys and Near Dark were some of the inspirations in my novel. The book I am writing has that World of Darkness flare to it, but even darker. one of the many tribes of Vampires that I am writing is a tribe of Biker Gang Vampires that are very inhuman and beastly in appearance and come with a Heavy Metal Biker Thug look and attitude, and they come with a very dark sense of humor and they laugh like demonic Hyenas. I like the Lost Boys movie, they helped inspire the Rebellious Vampire troupe in the World of Darkness games and that is what I like about the movie as well. Nothing says Rock and Roll like a punk rock Vampire on a motorcycle at night.
The Lost Boys is my most favourite movie ever, periodt. The music, the styles, the atmosphere, everything about it is addicting. I'm sad we never really got a look at how the Boys (David, Dwayne, Paul and Marko) worked seperately as characters, even though we get a glimpse of that in the cancelled prequel movie that Schumacher wrote. The fandom for this movie on the blogsite Tumblr is very alive and well, and I met so many good people through there with the same passion for this silly little vampire movie. Alot of people there have their own ideas on how the vampires work. Like being able to talk in eachothers head through telepathy and using that to "haze" their victims like what they did to Michael with the Chinese food. Lost Boys forever 🦇 rest in peace Corey Haim (Sam), Brooke McCarter (vampire Paul), Edward Herrman (Max) and barnard Hughes (Gramps) 🙏 Edit: In the original script for the movie, the scene where Michael falls from the bridge he actually gets caught by David. What was also mentioned in said script, was that they were supposed to have serpent like tongues! Imagine if that had made it into the movie haha
This was the one for me. As a kid, when I first saw this film, this was what cemented vampires as the coolest supernatural creatures ever. I watched this so many times (*had it on vhs; now I have it on blu-ray of course), often imagining how cool it would be to become part of David's crew. *Apparently, the original plan had the "Lost Boys" be quite a bit younger (like around 10 years old, more like "The Goonies" sort of a film), but J. Schumacher had the idea to make them older teens, which in turned allowed for the tone to be a bit more serious.
Food for thought If David can cast an illusion over Michael’s food perhaps the head vampire can cast one over the mirror , making it seem like he has a reflection. Maybe he did the same with the holy water burns?
@@coganLollins I only thought of it because I do a lot of writing and I happen to write about vampires a lot lol. One of the vampires I write about does that whenever he’s around other people so that they think he has a reflection. Also love your videos! And I would love to see you do a video on the vampires of Hellsing! Or Bram Stoker‘s Dracula
I think the mirror was an illusion, but with the holy water, Michael invited Max in before he headed out. This made him immune to attacks while in the house during the visit.
It was the invitation. When Michael invited Max they lost the power to test him. Holy water does not burn him and he has a reflection. This is why he is surprised by the mirror, as he is usually not able to see himself in them.
I don’t think he cast an illusion on the food. When David hands him the joint and says appetizers. It was weed laced with psychoactive drugs. So his mind is susceptible to the idea of the food being maggots and worms when David says they are. Just what I always thought was happening
Actually David and the others were not invited into the Grandfather's house, yet they were able to enter anyway. So the only thing the invitation does is as Max said "Never invite a Vampire into your house you silly boy. It renders you powerless." Also the Vampires never turned into bats, they just flew through the air like Superman. You should do the Vampires from the 1987 movie "Near Dark" next.
I thought since all the lost boys have Max’s blood that possibly when he was invited it was extended to them as well but I never thought of it like how you said
@@coganLollins If the invite was extended to them as well. Then the holy water couldn't have burned the Vampire Paul, the way it didn't burn Max when they dumped it into his lap.
They might have limited shape-changing powers as when they’re hanging upside down in the cave, the camera focuses on their bat-like feet gripping a wooden pole to hang from. This indicates that they can change their feet into bat feet. It’s unknown if this includes their shoes or not but probably as they fly straight from their cave to grandpa’s house, seemingly without stopping for shoes, yet they’re wearing shoes for the final battle.
They were sort of invited into the grandfather's house earlier in the film. Shortly after the grandpa left for his first date with Widow Johnson, when Sam and Mike have the brief argument over Mike's attitude and the vampires write it on their bikes, Mike opens the door for them. That's close enough for an invitation, I believe.
Currently visiting Santa Cruz and MAN is the city just as the movie describes it to be with it being a party town, especially with Halloween nearby and everyone dressing up already. I mean you can just FEEL The Lost Boys vibe, especially at the boardwalk. I even got to watch the movie on the beach since the town shoes annually around this time of the year. Such a fun city and such an amazing vampire classic. 🦇
As a huge Buffy the vampire fan (the TV show...not the movie) i love the fact that the show used the almost the same vampire makeup for their vampires...(they refined the fangs and the bump on the forehead in Buffy though)
@@coganLollins you should do some vs battle between different supernatural beings, It's just an idea. I'm dying to know if vampires would ever survive a zombie apocalypse
It’s crazy when you’re a child and you watch something and you love it but when you get older you watch it again and you pick up on stuff that you never understood this was a great video a lot of stuff I never knew. You could put the last boys in a time Capsule. And it could be discovered in 100 years and someone can watch it this movie will never get old all time classic in my eyes ...
One thing I like about The Lost Boys is that it has the theme of mere mortals who are still willing to confront supernatural evil, much like Fright Night, Ghostbusters, Evil Dead and Phantasm. These movies scared me as a kid, but seeing the main characters prepared to fight back always made me feel a boost of confidence!
Saw this movie when I was a kid, and it was one of the first movies where I saw “Naughtiness” and the plot twist…god that damn plot twist! Holy hell, I loved it and the sequels
Man im glad you did this video you have no idea how glad i am i remember watching this movie when i used to live in Puerto rico when i was a little kid one of my 1st and favorite vampire movies of all times along with blade i can watch the lost boys all the time and never will get tired of it is so cool how the vampires turn and how they fly and drive motorcycle all the time is a Really fun movie to watch
One little thing. In the lost boys they are turned only by drinking the head vampires blood. (Being drained of blood has nothing to do with it.) upon drinking the blood the victim becomes a half vampire who has many of the vampires abilities and is plagued by a strong thirst for blood. Upon making their first kill they become full vampires. (Which makes it surprising star is still only half indicating she has really strong willpower to not give into her thirst.) they revealed that part to Mike at the bonfire slaughter before he gets angry with star. And as far as David’s interest in Mike I think originally he wanted Star to kill him as she stated in the mentioned scene but his plans were changed to turning him by max when max took a romantic interest in his mother Lucy. So either way David would have made contact with Mike but probably wouldn’t have tried to get star to kill him if he hadn’t seen him on the boardwalk when max met Lucy.
Great film with a great soundtrack that brought vampires into the "modern" era back in the 80's. /potential spoiler below David is interested in Michael because he has orders to turn him from Max, as Max is interested in turning Sam and Michael's mother. His goal is to turn the whole family.
Rewatching this rn... and honestly, I think The Lost Boys vampires are my fav. They aren't too op like how vamps are shown to be now, and they're also unique. I love that they can create illusions, levitate and fly, have razor-like fingernails, and actually have a transformation when they vamp out. The face change, eyes, and double fangs are so cool... 🤘
I always took being invited into the home for this movie as granting the vampire immunities from holy water and having no reflection. (Hence why Max had a reflection during the dinner and no issue with having the drink spilled on him). It would also explain why David, Paul, and Dwayne had no problems going into the house at the end of the movie. (Seeing as how they weren’t invited in)
The muscular sax player is Tim capello, who did a great job covering "I Still Believe" from rock band The Call. Overall, this movie has a fantastic soundtrack.
4:27 he would have sought him out anyway, he sent Star as bait to lure Michael to them. Don’t you remember what Max says at the end of the movie “it was all going to be so perfect Lucy, your boys and my boys…I knew that if sam and Michael were apart of the family, there’s no way you could say no.” In other words, Max was the master vampire and he sent David to turn Michael so Michael would attack and turn Sam, and then Lucy would join him.
I've seen this a billion times and I'm about to watch it again now..."The Lost Boys", "The Goonies", "Bill and Ted", "Indiana Jones", "Starship Troopers", "The Mighty Ducks" and "Hook"
They can enter a house without invitation, if invited it renders the house occupants powerless to use the vampires weaknesses against the vampires such as holy water etc. Hence the final fight scene in the house the Vamps weren't invited but forced entry anyhow....other than that great vid and Movie :)
It was crazy living in the actual town i got to go to the actual house they used in the movie and would go to the boardwalk and just be like man this is sick xD
Noooo!! You missed one of the best lines! “If all the corpses buried around here were to stand up all at once we’d have one hell of a population problem”
This is my favorite Vampire movie ever. after that comes, From dusk til dawn,, Interview with a vampire, What We Do in the Shadows, 30 days of night and Underworld.
Wanna hear how dope my grandma was after she recorded this on vhs for me in 1990 after that point she only referred to my spaghetti as worms or maggots 🤣🤣🤣😎😎😎😎
This just might be the ultimate 80s kid/teen movie, boys on bikes, bullies ( or vampires) on dirt bikes, carnivals, beach parties, Cory Feldman, the hair styles, Aerosmith, comic books, I could go on lol
the visual / special effects hold up better than the ones in other movies of the 80s. between this movie and twillight id rather watch Lost Boys three times hahahaha
This is definitely still one of my favorite vampire movies now yes I know Michael's family was a little financially tight and David did have a better motorcycle than Michael but I wonder how much money did they really have like they slept in a cave I'm just saying most vampires are rich
No doubt the vampires motorcycles were built from various stolen bikes taken by them over the years. In the cave theres tools and various motorcycle spare parts laying around.
One of my all time favorite movies. Maybe the start of my love for action horror. I can't believe it took me years to connect this movie to Peter Pan. Its right in the freaking title. In all fairness, I never was much for Disney movies as a boy.
Spnat first David was just going to have Star drink Michael, but Max wanted to bring his mom into the family so they decided to turn Michael to try to get his mom in. The bit with the food and blood was a great writing touch. By making Michael see maggots and worms David disarms him, so that when Star tries to warn him and tell him that the wine is actually blood he doesnt believe her
The second lost boys movie was my favorite those vampires were so fucking raw in that movie and the way they looked and how ferocious they were was what did it for me. Also really good story line
The fact that Shane was one of the people David’s crew fed on during Michael’s initiation was a good plot point. Though it creates a big plot hole. If Max and David died, how was Shane able to remain a vampire?
Excellent analysis of the dichotomy between Santa Carla’s fun, vibrant culture during the day and its dark “underbelly” (good word!) at night. Kind of like the original movie vs the sequels. One great flick and about 5 that should never have been made!
The Lost Boys is simply fun to watch! Creepy locations, fun characters. Did we really dress that bad in the eighties?!?! Yeesh! One hoke though. How did David and the other vampires enter the house at the end of the movie if they weren't invited in? And why was everyone avoiding being turned into a vampire. Max was making a nice little family. Immortality, eternal youth, pack of hot vampire guys...can I sign up?

One of my favorite movies since i was a kid
Till this day I still pull up the lost boys soundtrack
The soundtrack is lit!
They can enter a house without invitation, if invited it renders the house occupants powerless to use the vampires weaknesses against the vampires such as holy water etc. Hence the final fight scene in the house the Vamps weren't invited but forced entry anyhow....other than that great vid and Movie :)
One if my favorite vampire movies
Could you talk about the Vampires in From Dusk Til Dawn.
The tv show or movie?
@@coganLollins
The movie.
@@coganLollins both
It was crazy living in the actual town i got to go to the actual house they used in the movie and would go to the boardwalk and just be like man this is sick xD
I love watching this film. Brilliant film
My favorite movie of all time and my favorite style of vampires. 🧛🏻
This is my all time favorite movie I still watch it a couple times a week it real sucks that lost boy's films weren't better I was hoping though
One of my favorites
My mum loves this film it’s become a family favourite
Hey, he listened to my request!!! Thanks!!!
Noooo!! You missed one of the best lines! “If all the corpses buried around here were to stand up all at once we’d have one hell of a population problem”
I was waiting for him to say it lol
Literally one of my favorite movies of all time
Really loving this series on the different types of vampires. Are you planning on doing one on the Vampires from True Blood? I find them interesting.
Hey I’m glad my request came to fruition. My favorite vampire movie of all time. Thanks
I dont like vampire movies much but i like this channel. Is that shawn michaels on sax lol
This is my favorite Vampire movie ever. after that comes, From dusk til dawn,, Interview with a vampire, What We Do in the Shadows, 30 days of night and Underworld.
The 80's had iconic films and music. They also became a part of the era.thwy became one
I love this movie! It still makes me nostalgically hungry for funnel cakes and bad Boardwalk food from Santa Cruz. ♥️
Yeah, i actually love this movie. "Thou shall not fall" has been in and out of my head since i first seen it
Need to rewatch this again. Been a minute
Wanna hear how dope my grandma was after she recorded this on vhs for me in 1990 after that point she only referred to my spaghetti as worms or maggots 🤣🤣🤣😎😎😎😎
I'll always love lostboys it's my favourite vamp film
Best movie ever! This is the first movie to sensationalize vampires into a sexy appeal of sorts
This just might be the ultimate 80s kid/teen movie, boys on bikes, bullies ( or vampires) on dirt bikes, carnivals, beach parties, Cory Feldman, the hair styles, Aerosmith, comic books, I could go on lol
The blood in the wine was David's. At the end David says" my blood is in your veins "
My favorite vampire movies 🎥 😍:
Fright 😱 Night 🌙
The Lost Boys 👦
Near Dark
30 Days of Night 🌙
I always felt the reason they turned Michael was to further pressure Star into feeding.
I loved the Lost Boys.. I loved the music too, and the vampires were pretty scary.
the visual / special effects hold up better than the ones in other movies of the 80s.
between this movie and twillight id rather watch Lost Boys three times hahahaha
With fright night together my favourite vampire movie from the 80s.
My second favorite movie of all time
One of my All Time Favorite movies ❤️
That sax guy is Tim Capello! Tyvm lol
This is definitely still one of my favorite vampire movies now yes I know Michael's family was a little financially tight and David did have a better motorcycle than Michael but I wonder how much money did they really have like they slept in a cave I'm just saying most vampires are rich
I mean Max had money.
And David could have easily just stolen his bike from someone he ate for free
Yeah the older ones because they've had centuries to amass riches.
They were living like Bats. Look at how they sleep. They seemed more feral than Max who lived more modern.
No doubt the vampires motorcycles were built from various stolen bikes taken by them over the years. In the cave theres tools and various motorcycle spare parts laying around.
Hey Cogan I like your content. Could you do a video on the werewolves from the Ginger Snaps series?
I’ve never seen that series but I will check it out for sure! Thanks for the suggestion 🙏
You just made me realize, The Coreys give new meaning to the term: "horror comics".
And I mean that in the most sympathetic way. poor bastards...
Yeah! Finally 🤘🦹🏼♂️ one of my favorit movie 🎬
Awesome commentary thank for your time and effort sharing with us this fantastic film
One of my all time favorite movies. Maybe the start of my love for action horror. I can't believe it took me years to connect this movie to Peter Pan. Its right in the freaking title. In all fairness, I never was much for Disney movies as a boy.
I wish the just used The Doors for "People Are Strange"
That would have been awesome!
Spnat first David was just going to have Star drink Michael, but Max wanted to bring his mom into the family so they decided to turn Michael to try to get his mom in.
The bit with the food and blood was a great writing touch. By making Michael see maggots and worms David disarms him, so that when Star tries to warn him and tell him that the wine is actually blood he doesnt believe her
Because of this video I watched this movie and I have got to say I'm glad I did it was an awesome movie
Top five for sure this one and near dark 🕶️
Excellent analysis of the dichotomy between Santa Carla’s fun, vibrant culture during the day and its dark “underbelly” (good word!) at night. Kind of like the original movie vs the sequels. One great flick and about 5 that should never have been made!
Love this movie
The Lost Boys is simply fun to watch! Creepy locations, fun characters. Did we really dress that bad in the eighties?!?! Yeesh!
One hoke though. How did David and the other vampires enter the house at the end of the movie if they weren't invited in? And why was everyone avoiding being turned into a vampire. Max was making a nice little family. Immortality, eternal youth, pack of hot vampire guys...can I sign up?
Maybe by inviting the Master Vampire Max in, it automatically allows the whole coven access.
I got to liking vampires due to this movie,
First??? The Doors is my favourite music. 🙏🏴🌹
