Naomi tells Mehdi on this episode of ‘Unshocked’: “I'm not going to sugarcoat it. It was a blow.” For Mehdi, “the idea that 14 or $15 million from AIPAC and the pro-Israel lobby in this district didn't play a role? Come on! That's just an insult to our intelligence.”
Over in France, as elections approach, the center right and center left have together blamed the anti-Israel far left for rising antisemitism - and given the French far right a pass in the process! There are reports that many French Jews may now vote for Marine Le Pen’s National Rally for the first time.
Naomi says “European politics is a world upside down,” and says it is “chilling” to think that the “charge of antisemitism is potentially going to facilitate the resurgence of fascism in Europe”.
Although all these far-right parties are staunch supporters of Israel, Mehdi explains how “the old anti-Semitism is still very much alive and well.” A mind-boggling idea regardless of which side of the coin you choose to see it from, so mind-boggling that Mehdi says: “I feel like screaming that no one sees the obvious disconnect… these people are still anti-Semitic and they're pro-Israel. What does that tell you about them?”

@@galemartin9155 Um, no. First, we have this concept of Freedom of religion in these here USofA. Read the First Amendment. I would get rid of the whole tax exemption bit, but as long as people keep their beliefs out of other people's lives, I'm fine with them having their Imaginary Friend.
Second is that AIPAC is NOT a religious organization but a lobby for a foreign country. That, IMHO, is why it should have to register as a foreign agent. Other Israel lobbies as well.

Progressives should show ads in the quiet period in between races explaining what AIPAC is, what dark money is, why their evil and how they're funded by MAGA. Every Democrat should know who they are and that you're voting against your own interest if you vote for a dark money funded candidate

I personally believe that America needs a "freedom from religion" Amendment. Religion holds too much sway in public life.

Very important to keep repeating and emphasizing that it's possible to be supportive of Jewish people and not support the apartheid state of Israel, just as it's possible to be supportive of Palestinian people and not support Hamas. Extremists always use the common people on both sides of any conflict as fodder and shields for their cruel and unreasonable agendas.
I'm not sure how Dems can criticize AIPAC for boosting candidates in primaries when the DNC has done the exact same thing in the last two cycles. The issue is not AIPAC. The issue is money in politics.

Living in Toronto and having emigrated from the UK when I was very young, o am ashamed of the Munk debate experience you faced. I saw something similar once at a ROM exhibit of a model of the execution chambers used against Jewish people by the Nazis, and was basically heckled when I suggested the exhibit should be at a human rights museum, given the role the holocaust played in creating today’s international human rights law.
I do wonder how this conversation would re-play now that Cori Bush has also been displaced by AIPAC.
