    You deserve to work for yourself my friend! I got my contractors license in California in 97 and made 4 times as much money but worked 7 days per week…I’m 62 and retired now and enjoy watching your videos! You are the real deal as far as caring about your business and clients! I admire you! 💯👍🏻

    True words... I worked as a Realtor for 22yrs and never truly liked it. The last 10yrs in real estate, I began rehabbing properties and the satisfaction was 180 degrees. I knew I would have a finished, working product when done and the end user would be happy. Whether it was a toilet or a light fixture or repairing a hole... there was satisfaction. Nothing like the uncertainty of real estate. I just found your channel and have really enjoyed your videos... you keep it real.

    Being a handyman is recession proof! Regardless of the economy, people need stuff fixed. You can’t go wrong. I notice you’re working for property managers-continue to do so, but the best gig is building a private customer base-people who own their own homes. Once you start getting referrals from homeowners that like your work, you’ll be busy all the time. Speaking from experience. Keep the videos coming!

    • @woodmasterguy
      @woodmasterguy ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Darn straight, I was swamped during the plandemic. There will always be homeowners, and stuff breaks. I can say that here in So Cal, I will never work for management companies, I don't want to ask or listen to anyone. Every single client I have is word of mouth. Never had a business card, no sign on my truck and no flyers..

    We had cell tower installed at my job back in 1993. Not sure how tall but it was up there. The crane operator had the second largest crane in the world and was headed to Japan after that job. His dad was the foreman. They had 3 Mexican guys on the top piece swaying it back and forth to put it in place. They made like $11 an hour. I said, Screw That!

    • @thehandymanexperience226
      @thehandymanexperience226  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yep alot of those guys on those things are way under paid. It takes a special person to do it. I started at $14 a hour like 2010 and I was hungry

    • @J-Colt
      @J-Colt ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@thehandymanexperience226 I was talking to the foreman. His son was the crane operator. He made ungodly money. Even his travel wage and per diem was crazy. As soon as they finished that job the crane was broke down and put on a ship for Japan. The son flew to Japan and enjoyed a 2 week vacation waiting on crane. I myself cannot do heights. I get vertigo really bad after about 40 - 50 feet. We have picnic table out in field and I go out there for lunch on nice days and watch the family of turkey vultures that basically live at top of tower.

    Great story. When you are working for yourself it's just more meaningful and more satisfying like you said. Home improvement is a field that will ALWAYS be in demand. Especially someone like you who has a strong electric/plumbing background. Do you have your own house? If not i would recommend buying a 2 family and owner occupying one unit and have your tenant pay down your mortgage. That's how i got started with rental properties and now i have a portfolio of single/multi and condos. Keep building your clientele and eventually you may grow and get busy enough to where you can hire someone to work for you.

    Good timing you made this video, I’m in the process of slowly making my own way. I’ve worked corporate for the last 13 years and I don’t understand how people can do it for 30 plus years and not go crazy. I’m a super tech at my work place and like you noted, they never happy no matter how many problem you solve. The nit pickers and managers who promise you a promotion to help but end the end does nothing are the worst. I’ve already start pushing back, don’t know how soon my breaking point is. It’s the other way around at my work place, there is a team of safety nuts who makes work even harder by implementing some of their own intensions and managers are such pushovers it because it “safety related”. Safety is common sense but I guess not many people have that these days.

    From your video's it's quite evident that you're a good person and no doubt this resonates with your customers. It takes courage to make a decision to leave a good paying job with benefits and go at it alone. But you have succeeded because you work hard and "do it right the first time". Awesome of you to ask your mom for her opinion as "mothers' know best".

    Wow man… I just came across this as a recommendation from TH-cam..but mirrors my life in a way.
    I’m a twin, and my twin brother climbed towers for satellite installs and hurt his back, hated it lol
    But I left my mgt job in construction because of the same bullshit and asks by shady company owners just to get the job done!
    So about 10 yrs ago I thought about going into Handyman services Reno’s for myself etc…but the licensing bs etc is too much, and you have to start somewhere, but small brutal jobs doing toilet clog etc jobs sucks balls and can’t pay the bills most times. I wish you luck man!

    You definitely did the right thing bud! I worked a CNC job for almost 18 years and hated it from day one. All because of the management! I was paid well, but you were nothing but a number, not an employee. You could never do enough. It was push, push, push. After words with the supervisor one night, I just walked out and never looked back. I now work for a small locally owned company that makes battery packs. The pay is less, but I'm happy. I like what I do and the company treats us like human beings. As they say, it's not always about the money. It's not gonna buy you happiness! 👍

    I met a guy who used to climb towers. His attitude about the whole thing sounded exactly like you to a tee. He was really fed up with the lack of safety especially after he told them it was too dangerous on a job and they sent them up any way. He said he watched his friend die that die. He also complained about the wind but more so the rain. He quit after the guy died. He was also older than the others in the crew it sounded like. I forgot what he ended up doing post towers. You aren't alone.

    for a property manager but i was on a salary with all benefits and they loaded me up with work to the point where i cracked because I've been with them 8 years and they didn't give me a raise or more vacation for past 3 years! i was at 10 days vacation no sick time and flat 60G's a year i was taking care of all the w/o for 300 plus homes. now I'm doing it for myself and other PMs I'm building my customer base but pricing jobs is tricky because them property mangers don't care about nice work just cheap!! and hard to compete with the guy working out of the trunk of his car for $50 an hr.! this type of work should be min $100-125 an hr.
