Woodturning - There's Hidden Magic in this Wood!

- Today I turn a magic wand in the workshop, let me know if this is the sort of thing you like and I can make more! I was inspired by the many wands in Harry Potter, and I've merged a few designs into one for this.
I use a piece of Yew and a tiny piece of Pau Rosa for the heart of the wand.

Disclaimer:
My videos are for entertainment purposes only. Some of my techniques might not be the "best" or safest, so when using any tool or machinery always read and understand safety/manufacturers guidelines first.
And Yes, I'm aware that wearing gloves while woodturning is considered an unsafe practice. The gloves I wear are tight-fitting and don’t have any loose threads. I wear them for the protection of my skin. This is a risk that I am willing to take, however I am still very conscious of the potential danger and I do not touch any spinning parts of the lathe. DO NOT copy my actions if you feel unsafe doing so. - แนวปฏิบัติและการใช้ชีวิต
Are you a fan of Magic? And should I make more? 😉😁
Yes please 🙏
Hello @@BAWOVINA
Knew a guy that made wands, not quite as nice as this, but pretty good. One day, a customer stuck one where the magic is, and the tip broke off, and stayed there. Then the person's lawyer wrote him a letter and said he didn't exclude certain uses of the wand, so he wanted compensation. Just make sure in the Book Of Magick that you include with the wands, a list of things you should NOT do with the Stick Of Prick.
I watched the whole video without looking at the description and I couldn't figure out what it was even though it was pretty cool. Nice job on the magic wand 😊.
As soon as i saw that branch i knew it was a piece of yew wood! The wand came out nice, kind of rustic and yet refined at the same time 👍
I had a pair of latex gloves get ripped off by my lathe and I was EXTREMELY lucky they were just latex gloves that could rip off. Please let the gloves go when turning. Awesome work!!!
It’s the first thing I ever made on my first go with no experience. I broke my daughters wand that I had bought her so promised to make one for her…years later I made good on the promise. She was thrilled (and very patient) Made a few now myself.👍
It's a wand-er-ful piece of yew. Yew really make the wood look elegant. Nice job Harry.
Hi Harry nice to see you, the wood has lovely grain and colour and markings. The wand is magnificent well turned I really love it. I love your videos and work. Amanda xx
Todo un artista.
Wow, it's very nice, what is it? A pointy stick! 😳
Mmm Harry Smith, alias "Potter". Nice work Harry. Cheers
Nice work! I was going back and forth between worrying you would break it and what are you doing with your hand on the spinning piece of wood? I love what you came up with. Specially the tiny figure in the heart. I say make more of these! They would probably sell well there in the UK. I’ve made three wands out of clay but they are not as impressive as yours is.
brilliant MORE PLEASE
beautiful spindle, I like this product
Thats actually pretty cool. Didn't know where you were going there for a minute.
A very unique Wand watch how you use that one lol nice work Harry 😀 👍 👏
Thank you Tim! Should I make a series of wands? I'll be careful 😉👍😁
@@HarrySmithWoodturning yes if you enjoy making wands
Very magical 🎉
Thank you Lisa! Should I make a series of wands? 👍😁
Beautiful piece of work ❤❤
Fun Project 🎉
Thanks for sharing
Wrapping gloved hand around a turning spindle had me cringing and wincing.😮
Nicely handled!
Nice! 👍💪✌
Thank you! Should I make a series of wands? 👍😁
@@HarrySmithWoodturning all you create does have a magical touch as is.
Thanks for taking us along.
One day I have got to get me a lathe…and give it a go 🤓
Thanks!
Very nice. ❤
Thank you Anthony! Should I make a series of wands? 👍😁
@@HarrySmithWoodturning definitely. Remember the wand chooses you. 😃
Very pretty
Fun turn! Thanks for sharing :)
Amazing
Ok now I got to get a stick out of the yard and try this
That is fantastic.
Thank you John! Should I make a series of wands? 👍😁
Yes, kids would love them.
👏👏👏👏👏
Thank you as always Umberto! Should I make a series of wands? 👍😁
Thanks for the youtube specifications that let you see video in faster speed and even jump to the end to see the final result instead of wasting the time to se every millimetre turning.
My trypophobia's been triggered with all of those holes.
Is the wood dry?
Nice work!
Friend, please lose those gloves as fast as you can. I've seen numerous industrial accidents that were caused by a glove gaining traction on a rotating shaft. You will end up with an involuntary grip on the shaft and the inertia of the machine will pull a finger OFF! With that tool rest right there, the possibilities are even worse. Also, maybe rethink spraying lacquer into your dust collector? At best, it's making a mess of your equipment. At worst, it's combustible and collectors are notorious generators of static.
I came by to say the exact same thing
Yes, I was wincing watching that with the gloved hand around the timber.
A guy in my shop, had gloves on working a drill press, heard a scream and his right index finger was gone, your absolute right.
Couldn't agree more
Forty years of skill development management and family in the joinery business agrees. Rather get a splinter or small emulsion than lose a finger or hand.
I'd like to have that for a spell.
My first guess was a cane. It's bee 3", is it a bat?
Подобная работа несёт практическую цель??! Для чего эта палочка? Поначалу я подумал, что это будет веретено, чтобы прясть пряжу! Но нет, я жестоко ошибся!!! 🤨🧐😏😒🥱😳
What was it ?
It's MAGIC 🧙♂️🪄
The weirdest woodturning i ever saw 🤔
Kinda like never wear a ring when working on a helicopter in the army. The battery will fry you instantly. Remove rings when working.
The chisels should be the ONLY thing:s 2 touch the wood.

What is it?
A football ⚽️
A stick
A walking stick for a little person.
I'll bet it's a Bird Feeder.
И что получилось, да так ничего😂
Ok, what is it?!!
Why does that dremel in the middle of the video sound Italian?
🤔???
Это что такое? Анальная пробка для слона? 🤔😳
Jack please make something that makes sense.
Take off gloves keep fingers
И для чего эта херня?
At first I thought clarinet, then recorder, then over-fussy balustrade, then table leg - I gave up. I didn’t want to waste any more time watching a tooth pick being made.
to much harry potter
Хренотень. На дрова вполне пойдет.😂
Boring
At first I say he's turned a beautiful spindle. Then he pulled out a Dremel tool thus proceeding to give it acne and cancer. SMH😮😮🙄
What the f##k is it for?
