  • This video is part of a 13 hour day trip down to the Columbia River Gorge to scout out trailheads and see the parking situation. I go from Troutdale all the way east to The Dalles then back up into Washington through Klickitat and Goldendale before finally heading to Yakima and then west over White Pass. I will post the videos over the next 10-14 days, if I have any fun adventures in the meantime I will publish those to!
In this video we start in the fun tourist town of Troutdale and head east on historic Oregon Highway 30. The road passes several parks and swimming holes along the Sandy River, I also see the turnoff for Larch Mountain Road which opens in May. Troutdale is at an elevation of 30 feet, Vista House is 733 feet above sea level. If visiting Troutdale McMenamins is a place to see, it has 74 acres of grounds to explore and numerous restaurants and bars! A person can spend the night there and even see a movie on the premises.

Does the Oregon Trail coincide with the Columbia River Gorge?

I just checked. Sounds like for the initial settlers it ended at The Dalles and they had to raft from there. Some chose to go north into Washington instead of risking that dangerous water journey, before the dams of today the Columbia River was full of rapids!
