Grand Teton National Park to Dubois, Wyoming | Golden Aspen Trees Galore and a Wildfire Burn Area

This drive was mostly on Highway 26 and through the northern part of the Wind River Range. The Wind River Range has the highest mountain in Wyoming which is Gannett Peak at 13,804 feet, there are also 40 additional peaks of over 13,000 feet! I saw evidence of the Fish Creek Fire which burned 25,000 acres over the summer of 2024 and eventually merged with the Pack Creek Fire which burned an addi...

Walking the Gold Creek Pond Trail Hyak, Washington
มุมมอง 15421 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
This walk was only 1.5 miles but it was a lot of fun. The scenery was amazing and even better once the snowflakes started falling. The pond is an old gravel pit that has partially reclaimed over the last 20 years. The pit was used to construct I-90. The path is handicapped accessible and for the most part asphalt except in areas where there are bridges or boardwalks.

      Nope, we were good. 2 days later we lost power for about 90 minutes when a tree fell on the lines about 2 blocks away. Luckily the power lines were not damaged and we got power back quickly. The tree must have briefly touched the ground and live wire tripping the breaker somewhere in the system. So far we have never had the power out longer than 3-4 hours for all the years we have lived here.

      With the camper on it is 23-24 mpg if I go 60-65. When I first got the truck it was around 28-29 mpg. The wind resistance and added weight for sure makes a difference. The camper is 375 pounds and then I probably take 200 pounds of gear, water, def, etc when I go on trips.

    In my experience if there is a gas station out here, it's going to have diesel. What with everything that runs on diesel out there it's close to 50/50 usage as I understand it. A lot more so that in the city at least. I liked Plush. I came in from the NW on Hogback Road, that's a good gravel road. I hope to be on a trip this winter, then Alaska next spring! We have house sitters all lined up and Zoe will be home with them :) My plan for the winter is Florida, need to use the new camper and see how I do in the cold while driving there.

    I have been there before in my early twenties I dated a girl in college and her dad owned smaller banks. I went with her one summer along with her parents and we stayed somewhere up there in the mountains. Looks like it has grown substantially because I don't remember seeing all those resorts. When we were up there I do remember everybody was pretty damn wealthy. Generational wealth and wealth from other countries.

      @AmericanOutbackAmazing 13 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I was shocked to see houses are really in the 10-20 million dollar range, very few for less than 5 million unless you can get a condo or townhouse, they are still 1 million plus! Before my visit I thought a person could get something average for 2-5 million. Must have been fun to be there back then, was the ski area even that big, I feel like it has grown over the years?

    • @Roscoesadie
      @Roscoesadie 12 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @AmericanOutbackAmazing yeah man the wealth is on a completely different frequency than the rest of society. This area caters to wealth. Walk outside your door and walk 30 ft to a resident only gondola that'll take you to the top of the mountain. If that's not leisure I don't know what is

    • @AmericanOutbackAmazing
      @AmericanOutbackAmazing 12 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I just did some research, the area has 9 private lifts just servicing various housing communities! The are purple on the maps and only residents may use them.

      That is a very fun place to visit, I am glad we had a nice road for me to walk my bike back on, it could have been much worse if we were 10-15 miles away in the woods! I think Zoe liked that campground, there were lots of birds and the campsites were not to close together.

      That is ok, I think your way of spelling it is more common? That noise must have been me shifting gears, we have had tune ups since then so the bikes are a lot quieter! I don't think we took the bikes out once this year, hiked a lot then got busy with things.

      Nope, no cell service. I have my Garmin for emergencies. I want to get a new cell phone next year, supposedly they will have the hardware built in that allows the cell phone to make Satellite phone calls if a person has a plan with a Sat company. I have read that they will have monthly plans or pay as you need? That would be awesome!

    I have bad things to say about Fields. I like Frenchglen much more. It's named after much more horrible people though. There are supposed to be wild donkeys on 140 and one day I plan to camp out there until I find some. Oh! I was wondering if you could get to Burning Man that way. I figured you'd have to go via Quinn River Crossing south of Denio though. It looks like that way would take you through Vya and come out down by Fly Creek Ranch? WooHoo! The Dougherty Slide!! There are TONS of videos of people freaking out as they drive on this and a few crashes. Easily one of the scariest paved roads in Oregon. I have never been able to find evidence of the hang gliding take off spot at the top being used. My favorite video relating to that spot is here though: th-cam.com/video/yniv2Zebkl8/w-d-xo.html You can get those Earthroamers like that Merc Unimog. Usually people use retired US military vehicles instead as it's more economical and easier to find parts/mechanics. They do the conversions in Bend. I have long been confused on how to pronounce Adel and I have never met a person from there to tell me how to say it right.

      I have a video of that drive to Burning Man, if I remember right it is around 100 miles of gravel? The road surface was very nice though, in the Vya area I almost got lost and started driving west to California. Such a cool place, I want to go back there someday, that along with the Opal Mines are a lot of fun and so majestic. Ahh, I did not know that was called the Dougherty Slide, I wouldn't take a trailer down that! Bend has all of the cool off road stuff :)

    I can confirm the road is great all the way to Plush and beyond. Although that drop off coming down Warner Mt. is pretty scary. They really could have put up a bigger sign about the fires. OH! You called that out later. I have camped at the Steens campground you were talking about. It was okay. They let you pay by credit card but it at least doubled the price. Oh! You might be going to the Dougherty Slide! That's one of my favorite natural features in Oregon and it also has a great song about it. Cow pies are the WORST to hit! It's like wet concrete and it sticks to the truck First time jump is at 8:50, second is at 17:43 and brings you back to what was going on at 8:50 and then it jumps back to where we were at 17:43 at 35:28 and there is another jump at 44:23 and I'm not quite sure where that goes. It's between the fire turn off and the pass somewhere. I've driven that road and it all looks pretty much the same on that stretch. It's before the cow pie incident for sure. Then there is a jump back to the pass at 53:13

    • @AmericanOutbackAmazing
      @AmericanOutbackAmazing 15 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Cool, I want to do that road next year, crossing my fingers for no fires! I think this was the first video I really messed up the sequence. The GoPro films in just under 9 minute segments. It was either segment 2 or 3 that was somehow swapped with the 2nd to last segment. I would not wish a cow patty upon anyone!!!!!!!!!!!
