Great stuff. One thing I like so much about these woodworking videos is that they're timeless. I'm watching this 4 years after it was posted and the information and tips are just as true and accurate, and useful, as they were when it was made. And that'll be the case 4 years from today.
After more than 40 years in the building trades and wood working. I can still feel good about myself knowing I can still learn a few new Tricks.. Thank You...
Just have to say thank you very much for showing those miter corner clamps made from a small block of wood to clamp and glue together corners. I made several of them to glue various corner joints for drawers I'm making for family dressers and vanity tables. These simple wood clamps have made it so much easier to glue-up tight and consistent and accurate corners every time. Thank you again for posting your tips and hacks for the rest of to see and use on our own woodworking projects.!!
I dont comment very often, but let me tell you that this video alone has changed the way I approach woodworking! Thank you so much, and keep up the fantastic work!
Another great video! I’ve watched several of your instructional videos and have never been disappointed. I’ve been doing renovations and tinkering for over 30 years but only recently started to get into finer woodworking (started with a really crappy ash tray hahaha) and every time I watch one of your videos I find myself in my garage/shop making something that puts your techniques to use. You end your videos with “thanks for watching” - I end them with “thanks for the help”!
It's our fortune that people like you are living in this lovely planet who are eagerly sharing their precious knowledge free of cost. Please accept my sincere appreciation from the core of my heart...
The corner clamps and 3rd hands are an awesome idea. I was looking at buying corner clamps today, but I'm going to use your tips and tricks. This saves money and proves to my wife that all my scrap wood isn't useless.
Perfect video. Short, informative, didn't waste time with incessant jabbering! Thank you! You could give lessons to others not only on wood-working, but on how to make an effective video! Thank you!
Great tips, I especially love the helping hands thing, I’m constantly fighting with falling boards. I really like how these are actual things we could do, I hate seeing “simple do it yourself hacks” and they use like a lathe and a full workshop of stuff to make the perfect project.
Genius hacks good for all time. I work in IT and software changes every 3-6 months. Its a challenge to keep your skills current. But in woodworking, the same skills are good 100 years from today. What a joy! Thank you for sharing.
Simple but clever - the spare hand was the best and original - to me anyway. The corner clamps are well known but never realised how quick and easy to make your own...don't buy one...make it.
@tgmforum Don't think that's true. Let's number each side of the corner elements starting top left going clockwise: 1,2 then 3,4 for top right, 5,6 for bottom right and 7,8 for bottom left. As far as I can see the pressure applied to 1 drives the top bar to the right, seating it into corner point 3. Pressure applied to 3 drives the right bar down towards us into corner point 5, and so on. The forces cascade around the frame in both directions ultimately pushing the miter joints tight, even though the forces at each corner do not appear to force the joint on that particular corner, they do on the neighboring corners. The 1 inch gap you propose would close when you tightened the strap. Make sense?
This is a “So THAT’S how you do that” video. Five ingenious aids, clearly explained in less than 10 minutes, and I will use all five tricks immediately. Time well spent!
Love the tips - some I haven't seen before. One that you might want to try (related to clamping) is that when edge-joining boards, they tend to slide around a lot as you tighten the clamps. Literally a few grains of salt (not sugar as it's not sharp enough) added to the glue before joining eliminates this & does not impact the strength of the joint.
Great tips on clamping mitered corners, also the clamping squares when more hands are needed...these will come in handy, especially when using pocket screws and you don't want the mating piece to shift when driving the screws. Simple and effective.
Your videos are the best for actual information that is so useful. I've found so many things that I've seen here and thought "wow, yes, this would actually work. And simple."
I am seriously wanting to go up to my shed right now and pull out some scrap wood and my trusty drill and cut some of these jigs. That was an excellent bunch of ideas Colin. Thanks again.
Well, as usual, Colin, you showed me two things (clamps, in this case) that I just went downstairs and made. I’m making a box for a friend and need some way of getting a good clamp on all four corners. I do have one of those wrap-around straps with plastic corners, but it doesn’t do a great job by itself. I added in some of my new corner clamps and BAM! A great set of miter joints! Thanks, Colin.
I'm embarrassed that i haven't paid better attention to your vids...made a frame very similar to this one and struggled to get good pressure for a good squeeze out...I now know what to do next time...thanks Colin!
I used the first three ideal's in my shop. The wooden clamp extensions really made my project easier! The tips where very help full in doing a big project !! Thank once again !!
The extra set of hands... seriously, brilliant. I wish I'd found this even a month ago before building my outfeed table, or end table, or cat litter hutch, or countless other things where having a nice right angle could have been done without screwing a block in place temporarily. Published over a year ago, and still benefiting the world - Thank you.
I used the corner clamp trick thin week end an loved it. Thanks, great tips. I will remove the hooks on my binder though. And thanks for no annoying background music.
Its not often when someone says "5 tips" in their video that all 5 a smart and usefull to me. Yours, sir met the criteria, and I thank you for sharing them. BTW, the video itself was also well shot.
This video is 3 years old and I clamped a joint yesterday. I just watched this video today. I had 3 years to learn how to clamp a joint properly and just had to come across this video the day after I struggled. Lol.
OMG🤯 I’ve been overthinking this!! Thank you 🙏. I have a strap especially for frames but I have more scrap wood and extra tie downs straps than I do money😂 so I’m definitely trying this out. I usually have a few frames I need to do at once but have to clamp them a couple of hours in between. Huge time saver man!!
Great smart tips! This is something my generation is missing out on.... Using our brain to figure out how to fix something simply with what we have. Thanks for your video!
I Just learned how to make a square hole with a round bit. Very handy video. Thanks for your suggestions in working !!! Keep the videos coming.nice to learn new methods.

@@knecht105 they worked perfectly, I've never been so happy with the way something I built looks. The crisp square corners are all the difference.

How do you ensure they’re really 90 deg? Just keep fiddling with your table saws mitre gauge till you get it right?

@tgmforum tgmforum Bring in the belt, that would force the miter .
