    I don't really go around liking videos, but in my research for going to Mérida I found your channel. Your videos are factual and therefore helpful. Very much appreciate it. Of course if you know of a good driver in Mérida I would appreciate that, as we are thinking about going to Uxmal but not for the whole day. Thank you again.

      Well I’m super happy you found the channel and I appreciate your like a lot. Liking videos help others find them because TH-cam will show the video to more people. I don’t have a driver I recommend in Merida but I’m sure you can find one in the Facebook groups.

    Hi Monte, I really appreciate you taking these trips so that we can see how to do it. Also thanks for the tips (toilet paper and bug spray). I don’t plan to get a car so knowing how to get around without one is very helpful (loved your video about all the transportation options in Merida…I took lots of notes). You are sacrificing yourself in this hot weather for us. Thanks again! I’ll go to see the yellow city when it gets “cool” again. 😊

    Great video Monte. I heard that you paid 164 pesos which is the Turista International price, so I guess they are charging the temporary or permanent residents of Mexico gringo prices. Very unfair in my opinion, but it is what it is. Agree with you on the last mile: local transportation is not available at many of the stations and prices are exorbitant when you get a taxi.

    • @Mexitplans
      @Mexitplans  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes. I purchased online so this was the option. But since my trip to Palenque they’ve been charging the international rate.

    The private sector will surely rise to the occasion as regards transport from the Tren Maya stations into the towns. Some local entrepreneur will no doubt think of starting some kind of shuttle service even if it's just with minivans. Subscribed, btw.

    The current Administration leaning towards the left. they want a better economy built with social development for everyone.
    Tren Maya was created as a curtain to detail locals from migrating to the North countries looking for better life and opportunities. When south Americans come to the USA and Canada they basically work in the service Industry. myself being one of them. we work in Hotels, restaurants, stores, cleaning crew, landscaping and in production. The Tren Maya, along with the Itsmo de Tehuantepec corridor and a Train are supposed to hold people working in the new companies coming from Asia with the nearshoring. They are trying to be eco-friendly and are developing the Mayan ruins as another atraction for the tourists. developing roads, Maya-style hotels, new airports, maritime ports, and assisting with planting millions of trees to cushioning for the impact of all of this new Infraestructure. It will get better with time. but they had to open the train so it can start producing money for the local people by creating many new jobs.

    I've been to the Yucatan twice, and took a bus from Cancun to Merida. The train looks more comfortable. Not sure why the train stations needed to be so far from the towns, but in my opinion shuttle busses should run to the center of town instead of relying on only taxis.

    Great show if i may add the reason people or should i say the locals are up in arms with the Maya train is because it changes the character of these
    towns and when constructed it did some environmental harm so i get it for tourist its great for the born and raised local i can see there frustrations and concern
    the Mexican government promotes it as an economic win win which may well be in future i can say from my experience i like Merida of 10 yrs ago under the radar hidden gem vs today i like Tulum of 15 yrs ago an un developed hidden gem vs today a ruined paradise by greed :)

    • @Mexitplans
      @Mexitplans  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      I understand nobody likes change. But for Mexico to continue to grow and be an economic force it needs major projects like this. The train allowed me to visit Izamal and hopefully many others helping that area grow and be more known to people.

    • @janemooney4130
      @janemooney4130 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      El Tren Maya will damage or destroy many fragile ecological environments. Totally possible to get to Izamal and Valladolid by bus, please don't try to speak for the locals as expats or visitors.

    • @jjccgym
      @jjccgym 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      The majority of locals are happy with Tren Maya and they want there areas to prospere. It’s only a small group who’s interests are being harm by this government or people that come from already “developed and environmentally harmed” countries whom are not happy. If TREN MAYA’S proyect offends you, maybe is time to look for another area to relax.

    • @Mexitplans
      @Mexitplans  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I didn't express offense why are you so hostile? I understand the tradeoffs with the importance of tourism to the economy. But there is very real ecological damage particularly along the southern part of the peninsula which should be discussed not ignored.

  • @theTimHernandez

    It seems, as of now, ADO is still much more efficent and economical than the train. Do you agree?

    • @Mexitplans
      @Mexitplans  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Ado is still the better option in most cases. The only advantage to the train is comfort and the ability to walk around on longer trips. I think the trip to Palenque was better on the train vs ado, which is was told might have safety issue in that part of the country.

    • @GrantMcWilliams
      @GrantMcWilliams 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      There has been no known corruption in building the Tren Maya. Unfortunately the way they did it without corruption involved mobilizing the only branch of the Mexican government directly under the power of the president - the military. However, that's the only way they could assure that it would get done *without* corruption.
      They have done an amazing job of reusing existing rail right-of-way that has been there for over 100 years. When that right-of-way wasn't available (Valladolid to Cancun, Cancun to Chetumal, Chetumal to Escárcega) they are building right next to the major freeways and roads restricting the amount of jungle that needs to be cleared. In the unlikely chance that there were Jaguar living right next to the road they can move back 50 ft. The net environmental impact is positive with this project. If it takes fuel burning cars off the road and does it in a sustainable manner than you'd be all for it if you cared about the environment.
