Putting decorations on the front of the bike especially seems like it will lead to a fast crash. The success rate and amount of decoration definetly were correlated.
I believe that that comes from the drivers no being able to see the track in front of them properly... look at 04:15, they go right off the ramp and it doesn't seem like the driver evens notices or tries to steer in the other direction.

I was sort of expecting the Mario and Luigi guys to fail, but they were actually the best performers. Sure, they had a more simple design for their bicycle just like the other winners, but even compared to the other winners, they pulled off what was, in my estimation, the smoothest and fastest ride. The Simpsons (1:30) did almost as well, and the Red Bull (4:35) I think did third best, starting out very fast but slowing down in the last half of the course.

Oh man. If only that canoe were real, they might have had a better water landing. I have a feeling all those weird decorations shifting around or affecting the center of gravity is what throws most of them off balance; the ones that make it to the end don't usually don't have as much as the others. Wider wheels may help too, or is there a regulation for wheel dimensions?
