    Love this river in the spring. A lot of deep holes even in the summer. Your heads have changed the way i cast. I almost never double haul anymore. Single hand snap t's and cack hand double speys are my go to. Thanks for the beautiful heads. Love my home shop tightlines is now a dealer!!!

    Built my own from 2,5 m rio aftm 10 musky F (thickest part tip reversed) + from 1 m teeny sw thinest end + + 0,75 m aftm 6 old sinking line . Shootingline: 50 m crosswater lawson pink Casts like a dream.. In the back cast to get optimal distance I slip 10 cm line with my index finger in the backcast, it stretches the line completely and BAM >>>!
    Overhead casting flies where ever I want it to go at great distance. It's fun! (rod: tfo ticr x 8wt 10ft ) Assembling of lineparts: needle - Gudebrod thread - and shrinking tube.

    From My perspective which is that of an old fly fisherman, I think this video, as good as it is, could have been extremely informative if you'd used a rod I can easily see on my computer screen. Your rod just disappears into the background clutter, a white rod would have made a huge improvement for me. But again this is a really informative vid.

    Great information here👍
    That being said, as my grandson was telling me, why not just use a light spinning rod and a spinner or spoon? For him fly fishing is meant for dry flies and wee wets (you can’t cast them with anything else than fly tackle, at least discretely).
    He s not wrong. But if you want only one rod, (and a 4 piece one) this system might be the way to go …
    If you don’t need to do any dry fly fishing , then maybe spinning tackle is the sensible choice.

    I'm going to buy a single hand spey line. I'm probably going to get the integrated skagit line but I don't know whether I should get a 275 grain for my 10' 7weight or go lighter and put a Skagit set up on my 9' 4weight. Any thoughts?

    is that backpack a new simms prototype? with the wader pocket sewed on the back? lolol..what the hell is that thing? too funny...i purchased one of these opst heads a month ago and on a sage zaxis 9ft 5wt its just sick! i will never fish streamers for trout with a weight foward line ever again..longer casts with no effort and soooo much less work makes it a real ball! and im not a big fan of streamer fishing for trout but im really looking forward to this fall when the big browns get active and we start catchin numbers of 20 plus inch browns..cant wait..thnx guys..

    I’m a fan of Ed but, yes a but. I’ve tried and tried and own many of the OPST lines but they seem so clunky with zero delicacy. I love and bought into the branding of the lines as being easy but my experience is that the longer the head or line the more pleasing the experience of watching my casts. Watching my cast is half the fun of fly fishing. Absolutely no disrespect but am I missing something? I don’t expect a response from Ed but a sceptics makes for the best believer.

    • @OPSkagit
      @OPSkagit  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well we don't have too much issue, could be that you're overlined for your rods. We usually recommend 50-125 grains or more lighter than a rods grain window when choosing a Commando Head. Send us an email at info@opskagit.com and we'll be glad to help!

    • @robertwest7197
      @robertwest7197 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@OPSkagit I’ve taken the advice in the response above. Plus I’ve dedicated lots of time for a proper self evaluation. I practice cast (not fishing) several times a week religiously or more depending on if I can get away with it. ( I hope my wife never reads this post). I can now say that I can make this line system look pretty and I throughly enjoy casting it, I’m addicted to it. Yes I’m eating crow from my first response and have totally flip flopped. The old saying is you don’t know what you don’t know. The more I learn, the more I appreciate Ed and what he and his group has given us. So a big thank you, from a guy who should have shut up and given the proper effort in the first place before commenting, another lesson I’ve learned and won’t forget.

    hello from sweden . ive got a question that might seem weird but here it goes i just got my first opst commando skagit head and it casts great flies like a bullet but after fishing for a while my shooting line is bigginning to get twisted. the head is the 475 grain and shooting line is 35 lb lazer line, ive tried 10 fot tips and 12 fot tips same story. the condisions was quite cold maby about 5 degrees celcius. hope to get some answers, skit fiske.

      I don't know "any" of the fancy words aso, but I learned, "everything" I can (and people say, I'm pretty good), from trial and error. Have you had the same problem with more than one shooting line? (could be a crappy product or a unlucky item), and do you have the same problem, if you fish from both sides of the river? My focus is always on getting the fly to do, what I want it to - if it was catching fish, I wouldn't be flying, where I normally fish (used to)

    I have problem with Commando head and mono leaders. When I use sinking polyleader or T-tip, line with leader unrolls nicely. But when I use tapered 10' mono leader, I have ugly abrupt cast, sort of "hinge" . For me it looks like mono leader doesnt transmit power from Skagit head to the fly. What setup would you recommend ? For summer low water conditions I dont want to use polyleaders, preferring plain mono or fluorocarbon tapered leader with moderately weighted streamer on the end.

    • @awaken77
      @awaken77 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** maybe combine 5' clear intermediate polyleader and 3-4' piece of mono?

    • @clueless4085
      @clueless4085 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Add a stiffer piece of Mono between the tip and your regular leader. Too abrupt a mass change gives the hinge effect.
      That, or your fly is too heavy. If it is tied with a lot of natural materials it becomes much heavier when wet. That will give you the hinge effect, too.
