I so love what you’re doing with fabrication of all the metal pieces and of course the fact that it’s VW’s. Amazing phenomenon that has occurred with those German vehicles.
You're gonna be on the naughty list for not using your welding mask. Luckily you may have redeemed yourself by making that door handle recess, nice job. Have a great Christmas.
Pressing panels is a bit of an art. As you found out the sharp edges are the hardest to get fully formed. Likely the material you used flexed a bit at the edge. I would have used steel for the female side. It doesn't need shape, just the parameter with a little radius. On the male side I would have mounted only the bulge to a plate with maybe a 1mm spacer to make up for spring back. Every time I press something I learn more and get better at it. Usually takes a few tries to make prefect though.
@@thenovascotiabarndoor1954 ahhhh yes that makes sense, didn’t think to use steel for the female side🤦♂️ It needs more room to move past the middle 👏😉
beautiful work! Glad you didn't run into distortion hell trying to get the doors welded up. How did you refine the edges of the pressing? Also thanks for translating C to F for us Americans, all I know is if it is over 21C people are not happy.
@@SkaterStimm thanks mate, yeh the doors were ok with distortion the wet rag trick really worked. The edges I just kept pressing and tapping with a hammer and chisel around the edges as I final.
