It's an anti-war film at it's core. Although it's a Chinese film, the US met it's objective and kept the bridge up and successfully evacuated. The Chinese didn't win, when 156 out of the 157 soldiers died in this. They didn't gloss over the US losses either and paid respect to American soldiers. Not a propaganda film.
This was a historical distortionism so you know. Even film directors admit that this was not based on real events and it was overyhyped. Salute to the brave warriors and socio-civic personnel of the UN and allied command.
This film may be Chinese propaganda but unlike typical war films featuring unfeeling Imperial Japanese soldiers, this Korean War film depicts the American side in a very human way, showing the Christmas gifts stacked together before depicting an American cemetery. I think that these depictions are something in which Americans should appreciate about their hypothetical Chinese foes in this age of Sino-American tension: The Chinese see Americans as humans and they wish not to go to war with them again. They wish for peace between both countries even despite the many disagreements they face. Yet, should the Americans declare war on them someday, they too want them to know that regrettably and against the odds, they will fight. It’s a different feeling finally watching a film which I had previously assumed to be deeply nationalistic and anti-American. Rather, this was anti-war and I love that.
Hahaha Soviets and Chinese the underdogs. So without the land lease act the soviet union would have lose? What are you talking about? China and the CCCP are strong!
@@captainchaoscow they were underdogs in WW2, the Soviets suffered the highest casualty rate in WW2 and they only turned the tide in 1943. The Chinese were called the sick man of Asia, they took relief heavily on battles of attrition

Reflecting on Clausewitz's theory of war, it's notable that the psychological impact of conflict is as significant as the physical. The decision by Chinese forces to pursue a retreating US army, despite considerable losses, can be seen as a strategic move to inflict a lasting psychological blow. The act of chasing an adversary in retreat not only diminishes their morale but also imprints a deep psychological scar. In the theater of war, the mental fortitude and morale of troops are paramount. The loss of morale can be decisive, signaling the end of combat effectiveness. This aspect of warfare underscores the importance of psychological resilience alongside military capability.
Фильм почему-то похож на один большой и долгий компьютерный шутер. Но бесспорным остаётся факт того, что без мужества и стойкости китайских солдат Северной Кореи не было бы. Они сильный противник
The first five minutes and I'm already drawn in into this. I've read an article and the Americans as usual called this propaganda. As if not everything Hollywood vomits is as well. Although I'm anti communism and the stinky capitalism, which is not so much different from communism, mind you, let them propogate as much as they wish. Whether they like it or not Asia makes better entertainment than they in the West ever made or will make. Lately I've been even watching more Chinese and ditching Korean drama entirely, who were faster in losing authenticity and works are mainly made to satisfy western audiences. Totally losing identity as producers there completely follow what Netflix decrees.
I know there's a lot of propaganda, but we must apreciate that Chinese movies are the only ones about this forgotten war currently and special effects are not that bad
I liked the film making techniques. It was interesting to see besides the typical Hollywood style. The historical inaccuracies were a bit hilarious. But, I understand the average Chinese soldier needs something to be proud about. I wasn't there. But, from what I've read and heard; the Chinese army was a worthy adversary, in sheer numbers at least. Poor leadership, tactics, training, weapons, and equipment led to the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Chinese soldiers. There gov't just kept throwing them into the grinder. America was no different in the end. Now, an uneasy truce keeps the world from going back into the gauntlet that is the Korean peninsula. The American Marines call this battle of Chosin Reservoir. It is one of the most honored and harrowing battlefields to the Corps. All the heroes are dead. Much respect.
I don't think it's that inaccurate, although I'm quite peeved at, first, the Marines being so vulnerable to grenade strikes (the US forces were aggressively using flak jackets at that point, which could stop / resist the SMG burp guns the Chinese commando units were utilizing, as well as shrapnel from fragmentation grenades), and second, the Marines being called soldier when the appellation for Marine enlisted would have been marine. You have to remember, the Chinese were battle-hardened veterans of the Chinese Civil Wars and WW2, sort of a more flexible, but less skilled and worse-equipped version of the IJA, specializing in guerrilla tactics. Hell, Evans Carlson ripped off the fireteam concept (adding a 4th man) from the Eighth Route Army, one of the predecessors of the People's Liberation Army, which sent PVA volunteers into Korea. And he ripped off 8th Route Army tactics of feint, distraction, and infiltration for his Raider commando unit. The actual companies that did the fighting in this show were definitely commando units, created by deep discipline and experience from fighting all these wars, because the mission they were assigned (deep penetration into the rear to sabotage a bridge) was definitely special operations, as was their esprit de corps and resolve to die. Also remember back then, that the US Army was still a conscript force, and it's not surprising that the Marines did a much better job of fighting PVA commandos than American conscripts.
Propaganda in which the Chinese get their asses kicked repeatedly by the US? Did you watch the film? The Americans kept the bridge up and successfully evacuated. So it's propaganda to say war is hell? Don't mess with the US?
Thats why for example the VRM (Flemish Regulator for Media) goes to Bilderberg meetings that is controlled by Council of Foreign Relations and The Trilateral Commission. Atleast in China and North Korea you have free propoganda to stimulate people protecting the best interest of the people as a whole. In the west its openly announced that the US will invest in a anti China media campaign to indoctrinate its people yet euphenisms make it all right huh. Ya'all China haters are real indoctrinated people, just look at the western idiocracy and its vassals...
I was confused why they called the US marines the US ARMY. Because most of the US MARINES wore helmet covers during the Korean War. The us army didn’t have covers so they would improvise with burlap or nets
They changed history by claiming the US accomplished it's objectives and kept the bridge up the whole time? And paid tribute to American war dead? Did you watch the film?
I was a US Marine but this is my favorite war movie. I cried my eyes out at the end.
