I fortunately got to shake his hand several times and have meaningful conversations with him. He wasnt only a great bassist but an extraordinary human and neighbor. Thanks Phil. You left me with some many lovely memories.
He shook hands, sheds, arenas, theaters, stadiums, pyramids, fields, and some farm in New York….he shook some so much that they may never recover 😉, may we hear that bass in the thunder that rolls for the rest of our lives. Thanks, Phish, for seeing us through ❤❤❤❤❤
People are being way too harsh on this performance. They obviously didn’t have this planned until the news broke earlier today meaning they didn’t have much time at all to rehearse plus Phil was not only a huge influence on them but a personal friend so I’m sure emotions were high. I for one didn’t let the small mistakes ruin my enjoyment of this amazing and emotional tribute 💙💙
When my Dad passed 8 years ago, the first song I played was Box of Rain from 11/17/72 Wichita, Kansas, released as Dave's Picks 11. We found out he had 8 weeks to live either the same day or day after Phish announced Fall Tour 2016 would open in Charleston. That 8 weeks ended 2 days after their shows, so I missed them. A month ago, my plan was to go to this show, but my wife had a surgery rescheduled for today. So, of course missed them again for good reason. While in recovery, I got the news about Phil. I was hoping Phish would do this tribute. Phil and John Entwistle are my personal bass heroes. Gordon joins me in that reverence for them, and it shows. Phil helped transform music. The Dead were so ahead of their time, they're the biggest band in the country, and Jerry Garcia's been gone almost as long as he was here, putting truth to Hunter's words and Phil's pain over his father's rough journey onward. Like Phil, I'm exceedingly glad I had similar rough times sitting beside him in those last weeks, and I'm glad Box of Rain was there for me when my Dad moved on. Tonight, on my long journey back home from the hospital, I blasted 11/18/72, one of Bear's best Phil-heavy mixes, released for Record Store Day 2014, the very next show and release after that 11/17/72 Dave's Picks. Featured are my all time favorite Playing in the Band with Jerry and Phil chasing each other's tails in a wild 25 minute romp of unadulterated jazz fusion masquerading as rock. The He's Gone is also my all time favorite version, with Phil playing a little riff 3x at the very end that I never heard again, but is just beautiful and ends the song perfectly. Tomorrow, Cornell Scarlet > Fire has to start me out, then a fiery The Eleven 3/2/69 is always a good choice, and a super strong Other One, maybe 9/9/72... Enjoy the trip through the transitive nightfall of diamonds, Phil.
Listen to that roar! So powerful. The vibe must’ve been truly amazing in there. So much love for the man Lesh. His music will have ultimate permanence. RIP
I have still never come to terms about never ever having the incredible gratitude and deep appreciation of hearing Jerry playing live ever again. And now I’m faced with the heart shattering reality of never ever having the overwhelming privilege to hear Phil playing live ever again. My heart is absolutely shattered. Thank you Phish for this beautiful tribute to Phil!!
I was driving home from our little store up here in the redwoods and heard it this morning on Sirius, I started balling. ONLY LOVE CAN PHIL I can't imagine trying to play this without exploding into tears!!! GRATE job boys!
I guess I make up for the ones who never met Phil! Part of the band I was in. Had a chance to party with Phil - Keith - and others. Before the Springfield show. Yes! Some cool things where shared. Plus we where also jamming on guitars. Phil is a incredible human being! We will miss him. The tears are heavy! Thanks! Phish for sharing the Spirit! " LOVE FOR EVERONE "
❤ What an absolutely beautiful tribute to such a wonderful soul. ❤ I highly recommend reading Phil's autobiography/memoir "Searching for the Sound: My Life with the Grateful Dead." It's a wonderfully written peek into the life of a lovely man, and time capsule of the Dead's adventures from Phil's perspective. I'll lend you my copy as long as you 1) read it promptly, and 2) promise to send it along to the next person in line. 😉 (I would actually do this, but it was given to me by my father as a Christmas gift in 2008 and my pops recently passed away. He grew up in Oakland and was the exact same age as Phil. There's so much sentimental value in its pages. I love you, dad, and thank you, Phil. 💔)
Beautifully done ... pure class, fellas. All the feels. I know Phil was smiling down. Rest easy, Phil ... thanks for giving us all so much of yourself over the years & for bringing so much joy to those of us blessed enough to have been on the receiving end of it. Sleep in the stars, phriend ❤
Beautiful, just beautiful. Thank you, Phish, for a lovely tribute, and thank you, Phil, for the decades of music you provide for the Phans. May you rest in peace, brother, and may your family's' hearts be stilled.
This was a special moment for me since I love both Phish and the Dead and have seen them each dozens of times. I was reminded of the first time I heard Phil and the Dead perform Box of Rain. It was July 4th 1987 and the first show of their tour with Bob Dylan. Jerry played the pedal steel during "I'll Be Your Baby Tonight" as a rare moment since his NRPS days. RIP Phil. Blue Light Rain
RIP. It's impossible to quantify how important Phil Lesh was to the world of jam band music and music as a whole. People will be listening to Phil till the sun burns out
Have you read his book, "Searching for the Sound"? It COMPLETELY altered how I perceived Phil and his immense talent. You sound like someone who would devour that book and appreciate every word. ❤
2006 summer tour. Trey and Phil was the best show of the whole summer. If you haven’t heard the second set from Phil tour 2006 I Camden NJ, please listen.
RIP Phil. I always wanted to hear Phish cover The Dead, it’s a shame it took losing Phil to get my wish. The music he and the rest of The Dead made has filled my life with so much joy and helped me through hard times. I hope Phil knew just how much he meant to all of us Dead Heads.
Phil and the Grateful Dead got me through some incredibly tough times. Will always be indebted to them. God Bless You Phil. A job well done Phish. R.I.P. and God Bless Phil Lesh. 🙏✌️
Thank you guys. That was a worthy tribute. Rest in peace Phil. You blew my mind and caressed my soul on many a journey. Thanks for all you brought and for your many years of service to the cosmic vibration. 💀🥀
Well done Phish… RIP Phil, you meant the world to millions that never got to shake your hand, but we’re touched by your soul

Thank you Cody for the years of joy you afforded the world, long after you were gone.
Phil gave him that when they played Phil and friends out west decades ago I believe
Cody?

It's quite an intricate song, learning it that quickly is a challenge
Anyone harping on the performance is a loser.
Haven’t seen one harsh comment
@@funnyguy6686nor have I.

All those Halloween shows?
Without Phil no Mike RIP

Phil Lesh's advice on the bass guitar.
