I heard about the feud by my Mother. When they released the movie called The Feud, I could not wait to see it. I wonder when Bette Davis got the call that Joan died ,Bette said “ My mother always said Don’t say anything bad. So good.”
Pretty cold. But maybe they try to appease the rest press?

An actress who was on the set of "Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?" said that if the two queens hated each other, then they didn't show it because they kept it very professional. Disagreements happened, but any stories of extreme catty-ness were inflated by the press. There were injuries on set: Bette was in pain after lifting Joan with a bad back, and the cast & crew were in pain after being subjected to Bette's singing! (seriously, did their ears bleed? because mine almost did!) The real rivalry is supposed to have started at the Academy Awards.
Bette Davis and Anne Bancroft were both nominated for Best Actress...but Joan Crawford was not nominated. In the end, Bancroft won, but she wasn't at the awards ceremony because she was in a short-lived play on Broadway. So, Joan Crawford glided onto the stage and accepted the Oscar on Anne Bancroft's behalf...an Oscar that Bette Davis thought she deserved.
After that, the gloves were off, at least on Bette's part! In various interviews Davis kept telling (and re-telling) the story that Joan got people to not vote for her, that Joan wanted that award for herself. She went on to state that Joan travelled around the world with Bancroft's Oscar for a year as Crawford was a brand ambassador for Pepsi-Cola before finally presenting it to Anne Bancroft after Anne's triumphant performance of the aforementioned play--- whose run had ended 2 months after it opened.
I guess Bette thought no one was going to fact-check her story.

I'm so tired of this ridiculous retelling of this encounter between Crawford and Davis. They were 2 working actors, doing some of the best work of their lives, and doing it in record time. And Joan, incidentally, was an excellent foil to Bette's character's craziness. She knew exactly how to support Bette and did it beautifully. Meanwhile, Bette's attention to detail, her grasp of the character, deserved the oscar nomination she got. But she couldn't have done it without Joan.
