Monster Ock was and still is the scariest villain encounter I've ever had in a video game. I couldn't even finish beating the game from fear of him catching up to me lol

They really add to it by constantly making him catch up to you just to keep you on your toes. No matter how fast you can do it, Monster Ock will always still tail you. Plus those roars and constant “die!” yells just make it terrifying
as a kid, not knowing what a memory card was, I didn’t really question why I had to restart the whole game every time I turned it on I just accepted it

This could be the most underrated game of all time imo the graphics, the story, the characters and even gameplay were all so addictive and was ahead of it’s time

Does anyone ever remember that “what you have is all there is gonna be” feeling? As in, it did not matter how old or new the game was, it was the only games you had because you had no way of acquiring any new ones.

Haha yes I do. I was stuck with just Twisted Metal for what felt like a decade at the time. In reality it was probably 1 year and a half. But that year and a half was 1/5th of my total existence so it felt longer.
A perfect example of this feeling, for me, is I remember I went on a trip to visit family out of state and was given $30. Most money I ever had at one time and I knew exactly what I was gonna do with it, buy another PS game. Went to Electronics Boutique and could only afford one of 2 games. Project Horned Owl or Machinehead. I picked Machinehead. To me it was the most boring, depressing, lonely and bland game ever.. and I remember being so upset with myself that whole summer that I picked the wrong game cuz it'd be another "decade" before I got another.
It wasn't until I got bitten by a dog and my dad sued for insurance money years later that I got to actually have an assortment of games. Sort of. Bought myself an N64 and picked Quake over Goldeneye and Zelda and Mario and Starfox etc... for some reason. Yet another lonely, bland, depressing game. And once again, would be a while before I got another N64 game and I would kick myself for picking that game.
And then the best Christmas I ever had was the year after. I got both Goldeneye and Turok 2 for N64 as well as Tenchu and Metal Gear Solid for PS1. Pure bliss.
I hadn't beaten that feeling until a few years ago when I started making decent money and built a badass $2000 gaming PC and now have literally every even midly decent game there is. Like almost 300 games on Steam Library... and in those 3 years I've managed to beat maybe 2 or 3. Now there is simply no time to play them. I'm like the guy from that Twilight Zone episode who loves to read and then the world ends while he's in a bank vault. He stumbles out and finds a library and takes solace in the fact that hes got all this free time to just sit around and read... then his coke bottle esque, heavy-prescription glasses fall off his head and shatter rendering him unable to read. I feel like that guy.

OMG, if they remade this and it's sequel "Enter Electro", I would honestly hope that I wore my brown pants that day! Then again, I'd refuse to play it because it would ruin the nostalgia that the original creation gave me. They would want to make it a full 3d New York and free roam, and only the same side missions and rescue missions over and over again! So no, I change my mind, I'd like this to just stay right here on the PS ONE and never try to reinvent a childhood memory!
Remakes are never needed. Play the damn original!

This game established so many gameplay elements, as of what spider man game should look like. Couple of levels are still mimicked in the Marvel's ps4 game in a way of respectful nod.

This was my childhood on the Nintendo 64. Still love it to this day. So much fun. I'm truly glad that the more recent pair of Spider-man games have been absolutely stellar. But this has a classic charm to it. Plus the nostalgia factor. But even without it this isn't terrible. Music is a good bop. And the rewards from collecting comic books all the different suits with their unique abilities. This game, for me, will remain an all time classic for me. Sadly on the n64 version we didn't have the cut scenes just, pretty neat, comic book style stills with the most the dialogue replaced with text. I remember also always getting terrible anxiety fighting the bosses. But still beat it. And enjoy it to this day.
Till this day this is the best story in a spiderman game plus all the marvel characters

Such a huge part of my childhood. Even though sometimes I had to play this on my old TV which showed it in black and white and half of the cutscenes were missing on my Pal disc. Everyone was either playing Spider-Man or Tekken 3 back then, miss those times.

The best Spider-Man game. Still own it and beaten everything. Doing Hard in the regular suit was a crazy challenge.
Whatever happened to that Classic Silver Metal and Black "Iron Spidey" suit! Now the "Iron Spider-Man" suit is something completely different, either Red/Gold with 3 Appendages, or the one from the MCU with 4 appendages! But never that classic 90's Silver/Black Iron Spidey anymore! I miss it!
