Trolled New Hogan for the first time for 2015. Fish are active. Wished we could of caught some casting instead of trolling but oh well. Was a great day out there and fish to 7 lbs is good for that lake.
Looks like you guys went out there this past Saturday (4/25/15) too. My dad and I were out there lol. But we only fish from shore, no boat :( The biggest one we got was about 10-12in only. Do you know if the umbrella rig is effective at Hogan with the cast and retrieve method from land?
LegendarySixSamurai1 We were there on Fri. You can throw a A-rig from shore. The U-Rigs can't be cast, they are for trolling. I would walk along the shore throwing a 5" pearl or white swimbait. You can catch them that way this time of year. But to be effective you have to keep on walking. If you want to sit and relax soaking bait then the sb isn't for ya. haha. But that is what I would do. Keep walking and fan casting.

I heard that some people have luck by the dam but I've been there about 3-4 times trying everything that I have and got skunked every time I'm there. Any more advice/hints would be greatly appreciated.

TheXJthatCould You can't paddle that fast with a U-Rig I can tell you that. Still may work but those rigs are a lot of drag. I would troll the castable type (Alabama Rig). Less drag you can paddle against.
Nope. You can have up to 3 hooks whether it is a U-rig, A-rig, whatever. My rig you saw trolling had nine baits but only the three in the back have hooks.
It is an Umbrella Rig (U-Rig) not the Alabama rig. Nothing special about it but the one I use is the Hyper Umbrella Rig. You can get it at xacttackle.com/hyperumbrella.aspx I just put some cheap swimbaits on it (pearl white is your best starting point) and use the 2oz version. I place 6 baits to the rig and then tie three trailing about 16" back with hooks. Pause the video at the right time on a large screen and you can see some detail. There might be pre made ones or better options but this is what I have. You can see it in my other Hogan videos as well.
FISHERMAN PRO The rigs as we have them run about 13' deep at 3 mph. This will depend on brand, what diameter line on your rig, etc. Hogan has no size limit and you can keep 10. Thanks for watching.
