Jim George & Sons, LLC, I love the smell of hot tar used for chip sealing. I distinctly remember that smell during the summers in the 1960s and 1970s in my neighborhood. The only difference was the town trucks used sand over the oil instead of pea stone.

Same here, we love the smell! Yes, sand doesn't get used much around here anymore, they used to spread it over the roads on those really hot days when the old road oils used to bleed so badly. Typically we use limestone or gravel chips, pea gravel, and in some cases decorative stones that have been specially washed and screened for a chip seal.

Thanks, for the great explanation, Jim. What does the limestone actually do in the mix?

Nice oil truck, don't see many with that type bar anymore. Especially that wide, alot of TLC there.

Are the rollers off camera? I heard they should move at 3 mph max and make a minimum of 3 passes. Is that accurate?

Unfortunately time is money ideally 3 mph is key but roll it as fast as the chip spreader is spreader

@@tomknott4480 we don’t use rollers anymore. Not enough guys to do it and the loaded trucks leave down the same road and just run staggered paths As they back in or leave.

@@WilleJamesHuff we have a roller but the trucks do the majority of the rolling here too.

Does your chipspreader ever bridge over in the hopper? Also do you always chip with only a driver? We have a 2014 etnyre and bought it used we have had alo5 of problems with it.
