I daily drove an ND1 for over 4 years, and absolutely loved it. Many times I'd park my car in the driveway and stop and look at it on my way into the house, thinking, "This is the coolest thing I will ever own."
Lately I've been shopping a couple new cars, and leaning toward a new GR86 Premium. I think I'd love it, but I know I would love the Miata if I buy another one. At this point I'm just waiting for a couple new ND3s to arrive at local dealers before I decide to buy either a new Miata or the Toyota.

@@mikeb9569 I did drive the ND3 a few weeks ago and I really liked it.. But in the end I decided to buy the refreshed 2025 Honda Civic Si. As much as I loved my ND1, I was reluctant to go back to a much smaller car for a daily driver. The ND3 is great, and if a local dealer had had one in a color I liked maybe I've have bought one. But I'm very happy with my new Si!
I came close to buying a new GR86 a couple times, but the Si is more comfortable, rides better, is far more practical, was cheaper to buy, and gets much better fuel economy, which is a huge factor to me as I'm driving more than 20,000 miles/year. Not to sound like a fanboy, but the Si is really hard to beat for a fun but economical daily driver.

I changed the shocks and springs so that fixed the problem. Everyone has to drive to believe how much fun this car gives. If you are looking for MT, easy top down convertible 2 seater, and a fun and good looking car, then this car is the rare breed that still has all these goodies.

I had a 96 Miata (I had to have the pop headlights) and absolutely loved it. I used to daily drive it year round in great lakes weather. Hot humid summers with heavy rains, bone chilling cold winters with blizzards and ice, etc…all season tires and the car did it all. Only reason I got rid of it is I just got a bit tired of sitting down into a car and then having to climb up/out of it. That’s just a personal preference and doesn’t reflect the car itself. The car is what it is. I don’t think anyone would regret buying a Miata. Perfectly balanced and not overpowered to ruin that balance.

Great review of a great car. I've got a 2018 RF as my daily driver. So much fun to drive. The absolute best gear box I've ever had in a vehicle. The pedals are perfectly placed for heel toe shifting. My commute is about 50 miles one way and I average around 35 to 38 MPG. The only caveat is the car is small not everyone out there is paying attention so you have to drive defensively.

Love your vids. I bought mine, base, a couple of weeks ago. Over time, I'll put an LSD in it, and probably the upgraded dampers, but I'm also thinking of getting that hush-o-matic exhaust. I like the 16" wheels though, they look really nice. Wanted to add one thing: some States allow you to wear earplugs while driving. I use musician's earplugs, and they really make the experience more tolerable for long freeway drives (top up, or down!) I've done in one sitting 90+ freeway-speed miles top down (with traffic), no noise fatigue. Would definitely recommend.

2022 GT RF owner here, same great color. It's amazing - this design has been out since 2016 and it still gets looks and compliments. It's still endless fun. It's still easy to insure and easy on gas. And 2024 makes it even better and with the interior improvements, has me wondering if it's time to trade up.
Or Raiti, and I'd like your opinion, Mazda is hinting loudly that the 35th anniversary edition will be built, but no US sales decision yet. You think it's coming over? The 30th sold out very quickly.
And I have a theory about the antenna. Base MX-5s don't have navigation. So they have to use the old fashioned antenna. I believe, but not certain, the shark fin is not on the very rare base model.
Last edit: Just watched your GTI 380 review. You've tested them all. Best manual transmission shifting feel and fun under $50k. CTR, Elantra N, MX-5, Golf R, Toyburu twins, GTI, WRX... What do you think?

RF is mainly for looks no real visibility and a halfway down experience only. I originally was supposed to get the RF but unfortunately I've done more research of my own and come to what works best. I'm also sure you don't want to run into any mechanical issue if it ever(which prob will) down the road when it starts to wearing down overtime so do make sure your dealership covers the hard-top if any issue were to arise. Ultimately, it's your right to choose so I'm only giving you my two cents. Best of luck! ZoomZoom💨

Anyone who complains that this car does not have a touchscreen has no clue and should not purchase or even look at a Mazda Miata. My first car now given this was the 80s was a fully restored MGB. There are a few cars that are true enthusiast cars.We don’t need Lane assist self driving automobiles, get in a car that is nothing more than a stick a motor and real wheel drive in a two seater sports car on a windy road in Arizona and you will get what the Mazda Miata is all about.

Have you ever seen the Mazda Cosmo, Joe? Never imported into the US, its late 1960's design waa extraordinary and I wonder how much influence it had on the early Miata prototype besides the Lotus Elan, and all the other classic British roadsters. When i see a 50's Alfa Romeo Guiliieta Spyder with its colored interior dashboard paint matching to the exterior color paint scheme, it makes me wonder if that inspired the ND2 and ND3 color matching interior upper door panels...

I really like the new updates on the ND3, but the ND2 seems like the best deal right now. About 10k less for really low millage ones, also a better deal if you consider the improvements over the ND1 are more significant (except for the interior) and also avoiding the first generation ND transmissions which have been proven a bit "faulty".

Great review, love the Miata. Truly one of the best small cars ever made. BTW, new, larger 8.8-inch infotainment display, DOES have touch functionality when using Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. Also, new Miata has Amazon’s Alexa voice assistant, which can handle functions like climate control and radio adjustment.

      @ag4allgood 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

Alexa can put your voice directions automatically into Google maps & about 20 seconds later its mapped on the screen ! Also got 2 verbal Alexa warnings on objects in the road 1/2 mile before passing them. Really Big improvement over the quirky Mazda navigation system. Always seemed to fight with it manually putting in my destination in my old 2016 Club.

Since Miata is all about driving, it'd actually be cool if the infotainment screen is one of those clam style that can fold into the dash. Connect your phone, play the soundtracks, set course directions, fold it in, and just enjoy the drive and view like in the old days.

I purchased a ND3 GT soft top manual about 6 weeks ago and I absolutely love it. I prefer the GT because it brings quite a few more features that you don't get on the Club. Joe, the Club does not have adaptive headlights, only the GT gets those, which is one reason a lot of people prefer the GT. You get this wrong every time you review a Miata Club. Also, the new infotainment screen is touch capable only in car play and android auto, but not in the native Mazda software.
The Club really doesn't offer any performance improvement, unless you go for the optional BBR package, which is overpriced and even with that option package the performance difference is imperceptible. I'd rather have the better equipped GT and modify it to my personal liking, which is exactly what I plan to do.

Soft-top is the ultimate experience of an actual roadster and about 100 lbs lighter than the RF. I said an RF is for someone who wants the extra comfort, slightly less noise on the inside, and security purposes depending on where you live. But other than that, I would rather choose soft-top and install a roll bar. It just looks so much better with the soft-top.

I had a daily 2016 Club soft top in Northern Illinois & when the cold weather set in the winter tires went on for 7+ years I did that change over. The off season tires were stored on a dolly in the garage. The car was really great in the ice & snow because of the 50/50 weight distribution. Also left it stock height & my winter tires were 16 inch instead 17 so you have extra rubber for any pot holes. Weather Tech mats installed that captured all the slush off the shoes. Great car in the winter set up like that as long as it was under about 7 inches of snow. If it was more than that I'd wait for the snow plows.
