Is the 2024 Mazda MX-5 Miata changed to be an even BETTER sports car to BUY?

- The Miata gets some changes from Mazda for 2024. On the outside is an all new color, 18in wheels, and lighting. On the inside you will be greeted by optional Nappa leather and a new infotainment system screen. Under the hood is the tried and true 2.0L inline-4 that is mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox.

One of the best little sports cars ever made. It's not about the horsepower. It's driving dynamics reliability and styling. I don't think you can race a Corvette with this car but having a wonderful spirited drive though the canyons is where it's at. They are great for every day city drivers that are easy to maneuver through traffic and park.
☮️💙
You’d lose the corvette through the canyons.
I love how Mazda has kept the feel of the Miata so consistent over the years. If I didn't have so many kids to get around, I'd own one.
This is so very true
@BrianEugeneLee193you are hilarious
If I wasn't 6'6", I'd have one too
@BrianEugeneLee193 I had 3 first gen RX-7's and fit fine. Drove a Toyota 86 and fit fine but I prefer the Mazda. Nobody can touch that Soul Red Metallic either. So sexy!
You can still get one for yourself. Having kids shouldn't be a barrier. Just drop them off to grandparents 😅
2022 Mazda MX-5 RF Grand Touring owner here. If you can fit in the car and live with the storage and comfort compromises, this car is perfect. It's 80 degrees outside. Blue sky and puffy clouds. Perfect weather. Just went for a drive, top down, winding roads, all of the stress from work and life melts away with every short shift, redline run, and tight corner. For 35 years, Mazda has made the perfect sports car. And I daily drive mine, snow tires in the winter, and no issues at all. If you enjoy driving, if you consider yourself a car nut, you need one, new or used, doesn't matter. And you'll have a smile on your face with each top down drive.
And I already asked my Mazda service manager...bad news...the 2024 infotainment system can't be retrofit into the ND1 and ND2 models. Oh well...
Screw the info change. It's all about the driving experience. Also have a 2022 RF n these minor changes don't have me second guessing getting mine.
@PerryPapanier I know...I know! The system in our Mazda had to be designed and first built around 2015, and that makes it ancient. H
And waiting 45+ seconds to boot up, detect my Samsung, activate AA, and start with music and maps on a daily driver...first world problems! It isn't the screen size that bothers me. It's the bad lag and slowness.
@aaronswink8554 yeah I get what u are saying. Will be interesting to see what the next Gen will look like n what is powering it. In the meantime happy driving
Mazda 2 ‘16 daily driver here (with the same infotainment as a MX-5 Miata ‘16 - ‘23).
Just use Apple CarPlay or Android Auto? And if I’m not mistaken your dealer will update the infotainment when you come in for a service. Mine starts up in like 20 sec. and after that you just start using Apple CarPlay which works flawlessly (same as in my Focus ST ‘17)?
I ordered this exact model and color… will arrive this Monday, so I’m really thankful for the review… I learned on a MGB when I was 17. This MX-5 will be my third… Two ND 2, and this ND3… Will be 76 this July… 👍
What do you do for a living?
@@AJ-yv9ss Retired teacher..
I owned a red ‘96 and silver ‘99; it may just be time to squeeze myself into a new one.
I have to agree with you
Had a 2019 sport for 3 years sold it to try a couple different more practical cars. Now I’m back in a 2023
Grand touring.😄
Nothing else compares!
Wanted to get one more new one before they ruin it by going hybrid or electric.
My window sticker still said
MX-5 Miata .
Same boat here. I tell myself that I need something more practical since I own a home now, but I can't bring myself to sell it. Saving up so I can keep the MX-5 as a second car. And I would bet the farm on the NE model having some kind of mild hybrid system so they can use the 1.5L engine worldwide and get better economy. If anyone can keep the car's weight down, it's Mazda!
the guy honking and you said he was jealous just killed me hahahahaha LOL thinking of a red 2024 club soft top BBR pkg.
If you make 1000,000 MX 5 videos I will watch all 2x’s fold ! It’s fun to watch you drive it ! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
The best, refreshed version of quite possibly the best generation of the best roadster ever made. I have one on order, club with BBS. Can't wait till it comes. How many modern cars are light with great steering feel?
Also, 13:17 it IS touch screen! It even has the option now to enable touchscreen above 5mph in CarPlay / android auto mode!
Such a fun tossable car. Some new touches for 24. Mazda knows taillights and interiors . Thanks Joe and Lori
Mazda does allow you to make the screen touch for all functions on the ‘24 Miata. You just have to toggle the option “on” in the settings.
- a very happy ‘24 Miata owner!
love the analogy of when we were kids on bikes exploring, I too feel the same everytime i drive my car
A legal go-cart~ I enjoy the extreme contact sport Continental tires on mine. I'm reminded that it is more fun to drive a slower car fast than a fast car slow. These puppies are quick and spry~ Reliability has been superb-knock on wood.
The heater is awesome..top down in the Winter is no problem Great review!
I need one of those and a twisty road.
❤ the two tone interior. Looks like so much fun!
Thanks for another great video Joe. Thank you Lori for all the hard work behind the camera. I have been thinking about getting a '24 GT MX5 for the past month. Just concerned about the cabin water intrusion issue with the MX5 if left outside under oak trees where pollen and leaves can clog the drains. Unfortunately, I don't have a garage to park the Miata.
Anyway, it would be great to do a local meet and greet sometime. I was born in Tampa and raised in Safety Harbor since 1981. All the roads you drive are my local roads. Love what what you guys do. My dream job.
I love that Mazda continuously improves the Miata with updates every few years. With the extra long life cycle that this car has, these updates keep the car relevant and desirable, even 9 years on. I owned a early ND2 for a couple years and I still regret selling that little gem. I will definitely be picking up a ND3 before it goes away. I'm not necessarily against a hybrid Miata, but I think this ND3 is the pinnacle of what the Miata can be, if sports car purity is what you're into. It's light and nimble, naturally aspirated, RWD, manual transmission, easy canvas top, inexpensive... it doesn't get any better.
I think I'd rather see a saddle brown leather interior but the cream is nice. just not sure about the white stitching. I also love the wooden steering wheel and shifter from the NA Miata. Love to see them do some nice Nardo accents like that again also. but there's tons to love here with this car....👌
Joe, great review and the driving sequences were awesome. I fell in love with this car during my short time as a Mazda salesman in 2004-2005. I sold a brand new 04 2nd generation MX5 to a dentist and personally delivered it to his house. I had more fun driving that car than I had ever had up to and since that time. It is my dream to own one before I die as this is the king of sports cars without a doubt. You must have driven one to understand! Thank you for bringing this exceptional car to all your viewers today. ❤
Great, fun cars. I had a 1999. Never gave me any problems. I made the just to a Honda S2000 and never looked back.
I wanna get one. Almost pulled the trigger last year, but I have a kid to consider. Once he’s older though it’s going to happen!
I kinda like the antenna
Makes it look classy!!
Hands down one of the most fun, easy to own, reliable, focused, sports cars on the market. And its easy on the bank account. You really need to understand that there is almost nothing else that checks all these boxes other than a Subie BRZ. Anyone who has actually put real seat time in one understands. I was lucky to have a chance to run an ND2 Club around the Nurbergring on a Tourist day and it was bliss. The shifter is brilliant. Heel toe placement of the pedals is near perfect. And you can break the rear loose if and when you want. Thank you Mazda!
Easy on the bank account? This same Miata in the video would be around $40k out the door 😂
Bought a 24 Club in aero gray about a month ago and I love it. It’s just such a fun car to drive! I also have a red 1990 with the hardtop and it’s amazing how similar they feel, yet the 24 is just more refined. Great cars!
In 1990 the Miata weighed 2182 lbs., it is now around 2400 lbs. so not bad to only grow 200 lbs in this many years. Wish Mazda would add some better colors. They have a blue and a red, but...
ND2 owner here. Luv your review and had to subscribe.
That “place for three Twinkies” also happens to be a great place for my phone. My iPhone SE fits in there perfectly, like it was designed for the car!
Mazda has never said they're going to fully electrify the MX5 for the next model line. Like to see them drop the depressing "colours" like gray, sliver, whatever that awful colour with the reviewed car and give us British racing green, orange, yellow, even turqoise. It's a sports car, give us sports car colours!!!
Green would be fantastic. They had an orange special edition Miata a few years ago.
I heard there will be a hybrid first.
British green!!!
I dig the two-tone.
My father-in-law had an MG when he was stationed in England. It was his favorite car ever. A few years back, he decided to get that feeling back by getting a Miata. He loves that car. Having driven it, I agree that you don't need the high HP (my toy is a 750 HP Roush Stage 3) to have a great driving experience. It is so fun to drive!
2023 MX-5 RF Owner. Testing driving this car taught me that a car can be more than just a utility item. I sometimes feel bad for other drivers in their cookie-cutter vehicles with my old mindset, haha.
Raiti hit the Jackpot Today
Don't know if I'd buy one for me but these cars are really fun to drive.
You better believe it Omar
Thank you Joe and Lori for such a great review. I have not really considered the Miata for quite a few years because I always needed a back seat and a bit more room inside, but now my kids are grown up. So maybe its time🤔👍👍
Such a great road test too, gotta be one of the most under appreciated sports cars ever made👌
Thanks! I really enjoyed the video, while I anxiously wait for delivery of my 2024 Soul Red MX-5 GT Soft Top. Traded in my 2018 RF GT for it. I like the RF a lot. But, since I always drive with the top down anyway unless it rains, may as well get a soft top!😄 There are cars that are fun to drive, and then there is the MX-5 that you drive for fun!
My 2022 grand touring is amazing I love it. Such a great value. Actually allows me to have it as a second car.
Great fun little sports car. Love that color combo ! 👍. Twinkie smelling candles in Walmart Joe 😂
I have to get some of those!
Always great, can't wait to see who brings one to the Rally in Landover MD!!!
Finally I've been waiting for your review on this new ND3. On throttle YEAH!
Joe you have to buy one!!! I bought a new 2023 Sport Miata and I absolutely love it! Thank you Lori for all your great camera work!!
King of sports cars for the money.
What if you want to pan around the map? How does that work with it not being touchscreen (for the OEM map that is, not Apple Carplay/Andourd Auto)?
Love the shifting on that stitch knob. 😀 The MX-5 is truly an incredible gift to people who love to drive. It gets you in touch with the spirit of what makes a great sports car.
For as long manual transmission.ill go for it,
Perfect review as always!
Joe and Lori and Steve keep up the good work real true and I love the video 👍
Yes of course Joe & I would love to buy this.
The MX5 rewards all drivers, not just those that know what they’re doing. Slow car fast is for everyone. Great machine
Love my '22 RF and you can rev the crap out of it. You can't drive this without a big smile on your face. Thanks for the review.
For an 8 year old design, this Mazda is still gorgeous and has aged very well. You can find very low mileage Club or GT ND2s for mid to upper 20's which feels like a great deal. Approaching $38K-40K new seems outright silly though...
You've driven so many ND Miatas over the years, I was hoping you'd comment on the new steering rack and rear diff, compared to the ND2.
Got my 2024 RF in red. Definitely great choice for myself. Even commute becomes kind of fun
6:33 Great review as always Joe…love the zit comment! I have a 22 GT…the 205 wheels are technically enough for this car but aesthetically speaking they are too skinny. I put on 225 45 17 tires and wow did that make a difference…both in looks and performance. Love, love, love this car!
I loved the Mazda sports since the 90,s I love this
Like you have the pet peeve of fake front air vents, I don't like the info screens to stick up so high. Minor, but irritating for some reason.
What about the new steering rack for 2024?
Love the new drls they added, but you drove that thing hard! The miata still rips ;)
Raiti's laugh says it all;I buy it!!🤜🏻🤛🏻💪🏻💪🏻😎
Nice nod to the ww2 era of cars and yes I very much remember cruising around with my freinds on bikes growing up great video makes me smile too 👏
I'm getting 40mpg on the highway. MADNESS!
Miata is a track weapon, who ever thinks it's slow needs to go drive one. It's very deceiving with some suspension mods what it can do. Thank you Raiti.
Love my 23 sport mx5 that was born on 12/23 & saved a bunch, love it !!
Love the cheerful 2 toned interior! I can't say I love the spindly wheel design with that body style. But a great car!
Do you think you could fit 2 carry-on luggage bags in the trunk or no?
Unlikely.
Yes, if they're soft. There's a carved-out "well" in the trunk that is somewhat deep. To compare, you can easily fit 2-24 packs of bottled water or 5-12 packs of soda side by side with room on top. I purchased a new REI large soft-sided duffel bag just for use in that car because it fit, and backpacks and another carryon will fit. The plastic tray that holds the tire inflation kit and owner's manual does get in the way. Don't try a hard-sided suitcase - the opening is too small. And I've seen luggage sold online made just to fit in MX-5 trunks.
@@CarlosMartinez-rx9vk We own a 2023 and have easily fit two hard sided carry-ons on top of one another. There is even extra room for a few soft sided bags as well. We do this all the time.
The interior does seem a step up from that of the BRZ/GR86, great little sports car!
Alright Joe let’s see what this Mazda will do for us
You’ll love the on throttle action!
I like that I can fit a lot of Twinkies boxes.
Joe and Lori must be on fire nowadays two videos in less than 5 hours !!
Always a wonderful car loved them from way back but I prefer bright yellow or green
Really does look like a lot of fun. I would like to see Fiat bring back the Spider.
You're having way too much fun! And, I get it!
I understand the low quality back-up camera. They wouldn't even have a back-up camera if it wasn't for the gov't requirement. Hence a cheap camera to keep the cost down as much as possible.
It's definitely a budget car for enthusiasts. I ended up picking up a type r instead 🙃
Anyone notice how every Mazda Miata review in TH-cam has to start with a history lesson?? ....Zooom zoooom
Zoom Zoom, I have always liked these!
15:22 I think you just reminded me of a certain song by "Chef", from South Park. 😂
Love your videos Joe, but you need to recheck some of your stats on this one such as the size of the infotainment screen is wrong I believe its 8.5 “ and its functionality, MX-5 now has a touchscreen now !
Thanks for your great insight Anthony.
The biggest smile while driving 😂
Love your car video
Nice review.Mazda has influenced the industry to make decent affordable cars.Thanks.
2020 here and love it
will it be 35th anniversary edition ?
I'd prefer the MX5 in red with tan interior. Something about gray that depresses me for some reason. I would also look for an aftermarket exhaust that doesn't sound like a fart can.
Bro at this rate you should start a review channel for candies.
Just curious what car do you own currently and what about it made you want it?
My daily drive is a Honda Civic Type R. It is a very fun car to drive but also very useable.
@@RaitisRides Thanks!
@@RaitisRides If I ever have to replace my MX-5 RF GT with something more practical, it's probably going to be the CTR or Golf R. I had some bad experiences with VWs, but I keep hearing the GTI and R are built a lot better. The GR Corolla is a dark horse in this, but finding one in this area, and then finding one that isn't marked up is impossible. But I'd love me a CTR...
Raiti’s having a freaking blast😭😂
JOE > is this the one you were telling me about, that you got me for my early birthday gift? thanks my Italian Brother, tony
p.s. - your hair looks great
I like all silver or chrome wheels.
The new infotainment screen is touch capable with carplay and android auto, but not in the native software.
Wow very nice Cabrio From Mazda always good designs and great Japanese car👌
Great sports car no doubt, but I used to own a Boxster, and had little trouble sitting into it. However, I didn't enjoy trying to sit in the Miata. I'm 6 feet tall and it didn't seem like good fit for me. The Boxster no problem.
Yes!
That nice looking Tan Napa leather interior is not available with all exterior colors. I like the Zircon Sand Metallic, but can't get the tan interior. I don't think black leather is a great idea for a convertible! But they won't even let me build a Grand Touring model with the cloth/ suede seats unless I go down to the Club trim. They won't even allow a red Miata with the tan interior, which has been a classic combo for everyones' lifetimes... as long as they don't want a MX-5 I guess. #balldrop
If I had a third stall in my garage I’d have one of these.
Legendary.
Light beige and dove gray clash and don't work for me, but I owned 1998 (last flip-up lights) and l loved it. This Gen is drop dead gorgeous. I love the deep metallic red. And I can see getting red & black leather seat covers to make it a bit flashier and fun. Base model with stick, or even a hybrid work for me.
It couldn’t of been a 1998 they didn’t make one that year

I wonder when we'll actually see a hybrid or electric version. I feel like if they were releasing an NE (perfect timing for the 'E' generation), we'd know it by now? I have a feeling the ND3 will be here for at least 1 more model year, maybe 2, finishing off this strong ND generation with 10 full years.
This is a very good question!
Looks like Joe has a case of the Zoomies. 😏
I want an rf so bad
