      Yeah, Raise the Palisade is a fantastic way for a kindred deck to punch through a board stall and win (or at least take out a player or two). Saying "it makes you arch enemy" is the same as saying "this is really powerful" and would only really be a problem if it didn't take players out!

      Richard on open the way: number one green card, love tapping out to ramp a few random lands, much better than ramp that gets untapped lands like skyshroud claim, or cheaper like nature's lore.

    • @Dragon_Fyre
      @Dragon_Fyre ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think in a vacuum, Taunt from the Rampart is better, card vs card… but Raise the Palisades can go in so many decks, where Boros is one of the least popular color combos (I think Boros and Selesnya are the least played based on EDHREC).
      It’s not that Roaming Throne for an example is too powerful (Mother of Machines is better), except that being colourless, it can effectively be in 80%+ decks. Mother of Machines, requires you to have White as an option. So because of that I think Roaming Throne is a far better card to have in your collection. The same goes for Raise the Palisades.

    Roaming throne is also insane in artifact centric decks with the "artificer" creature type. I put it in my Toggo/Ich Tekik partner deck, who are both artificers, and I have several more artificers with strong triggered abilities, but my deck definitely isn't artificer tribal. In fact it is actually closer to golem tribal, having many more golems than artificers, but I will still name artificer with roaming throne every time.

      I mean i don’t think it’s that hot a take for casual commander which this podcast is about. It’s not a card you should put in every black deck. I took it out of both my Tergrid and Muldrotha decks because very often the damage and the body were just not impactful, and one of those decks plays wheels. Its impact is severely hampered by the lack of consistency in casual commander compared to modern and cedh for example, where it is one of the best cards of all time.

    18:10 roaming throne with miirym just escalates...
    roaming throne enters as dragon. miirym triggers, the roaming throne lets miirym trigger an additional one, therefore you end with:
    miirym, 1 roaming throne, 2 roaming throne token... waiting for the next dragen to be cast. or whichever trigger comes next.

    • @xEddyTheGr8x
      @xEddyTheGr8x ปีที่แล้ว +3

      And as if that wasn't enough already: Ward is a triggered ability as well, so for each Throne on the board, Miirym's Ward will trigger an additional time & if there's more than one of the chairs, their Wards will "bounce" up off each other.

    Skyshroud claim is still better than open the way. Mana ramp that gets you untapped is way better later in the game off curve. You don’t have to lose your whole turn to still get ahead on mana

    • @justintolentino9222
      @justintolentino9222 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Depends on your curve. On low cmc's, or if you value spot interaction highly, untapped lands matter. Tomer and Crim's play pattern would fit well in that category. If you play high cmc's like Phil, you can just ramp the first 3-5 turns, with minimal interaction with the board, then you need a turn where you have 8-10 available mana so that you can drop your bombs (blatant thievery) or have a double spell turn. A good indicator when play testing is if I have a shock land in hand, how many times have I paid 2 life to play it untapped on the first 3 turns.

    • @orpheos9
      @orpheos9 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@justintolentino9222 Even with decks with higher mana curves I still like skyshroud claim. My point is that on curve, they are still about equivalent if you pay 4 mana for each. But if you draw Skyshroud Claim later in the game, its much more likely that you will be able to play it and another spell on the same turn rather than taking a whole turn off. And if you do take a whole turn off to play Open the way for 4, its more likely that other players might see that you just got so many more lands and thus want to punish you for it when you just took a turn off.

    I like richards argument against the mass bounce spell in this video way more than the last time it was brought up. Without an already established win, this card is a big tempo play that makes everyone upset at you, and most likely results in you getting hated out of the game if you don't win in that turn. Cyclonic rift I think is actually much better than raise the palisade because of the instant speed. Cyc rift at the end step before your turn and untapping is way different than spending 5 mana on your turn, and is more likely to win you the game.

    100% agree with Seth on Elesh Norn Mother. It usually stops 2 decks at the table from doing much of anything. (His panharmonicon style decks, landfall, blink, it takes out a lot of cards in my aristocrats decks, some peoples life grain decks need soul sisters etc),.. So it ends up getting teamed up on. I feel like the percentage of games the Elesh Norn Mother decks end up in 4th or 1st is high, and the amount of times its 2nd or 3rd has got to be low. It either wins or gets hated out fast.

    • @1ryb360
      @1ryb360 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I think the thing is, craterhoof is in green which just has a lot of incidental ramps, making it much much easier to cast than Moonshaker. In white 8 mana is really steep and you have to go out of your way to ramp into it, which often means you have to invest mana that you could otherwise have spent building your board.

    • @kylegonewild
      @kylegonewild ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@1ryb360 Casting it isn't all that hard in white (especially white artifacts) though obviously green will have an easier time, but more importantly it's a lot easier to reanimate in white. That's why it's great in my Oketra. A solid chunk of the creature base in said 40+ creature deck fetch lands/accelerate my mana/draw cards because my commander guarantees every creature I cast comes stapled with several mana worth of value in the form of a body on the field, and I run a solid chunk of recursion since half my strategy relies on my commander (who is already hard to get rid off with the tuck 3 trigger). Both are easy S-tier finishers. In their respective colors they're obviously better than the other, but I can Natural Order a hoof, I can't NO a Moonshaker and that just bumps hoof up to S+. In my G/W Yasharn landfall though I can tutor up both extremely easy so they're both in there lol.
      Edit: I should note when I say "in their respective colors obviously better than the other" what I mean is the differentiating effect (trample vs. flying) are more relevant to their respective colors. Hoof will often win with only a handful of big fatties out that just needed the trample, the buff is a bonus. In white though the amount of big creatures you're running is slim so going over the top instead of through the toughness is more beneficial.

      I want to start off by saying that I don't consider any card an auto include. Not even Sol Ring.
      That said, Roaming Throne is a powerful card that if you wanted, could go into any deck where it greatly sinergizes with the commander.
      If you built the deck to be a Magecraft Spellslinger deck, then Throne may not do much and could be easily replaced. I however would built it as an Octavia deck.
      In that deck, casting one spell to turn 2 of my creatures into 8/8's would be worth the spot in my deck. I personally would play Throne over Gale. While Gale is 3 mana, it requires more set up for my version of the deck than Throne does. Gale does not flashback the spell for free. The value I can get from Gale is nice but I have to pay a minimum of 2 mana to make 2 8/8's whereas Throne does it for just the 1.
      Gale also has potential nonbo with the commander. The spells it casts from the grave are exiled. I need them in the grave to make Octavia cheaper.
      There is also the fact that I don't have to name my Commander's type. I could name Wizard and double the triggers of Gale, Emeritus, and the other Magecraft wizards in the deck.
      TLDR
      Throne is really powerful. Don't underestimate it.
