  • We see how loud the '86 Saleen is compared to Saskatchewan's SGI allowable sound limits with Db testing. We also see if winter air really is that much cooler with our non intercooled supercharger set up. We also check out the new Tesla supercharger station in our city.

    Hey @HighwayMike, Awesome, thanks for checking into it. That's still a sizable difference!! Appreciate the update!!👍👍

    Great video Todd!! Definitely looks like an intercooler is the way to go. I am pushrod for life Brother! 👊🏾

      Hey Brother! It turns out air to air is going to harder to do than anticipated! Not much room around the Windsor to route the piping. And yes, I'll always be an old school pushrod guy. Who doesn't just love the simplicity! Lol Thanks for watching!!👍👍

    Hey Mike, I definitely didn't know how much louder each Db was. Now that you put it that way, I think very few people would hit the 101+ allowable Dbs. Probably pretty much the straight piped crowd. Thanks for bringing that to my attention! I thought that was pretty funny that they were testing via a 330' stretch! Lol However, it is real world. Thanks again!👍👍

      Just for accuracy i was off a bit on the db formula and figured id look it up. Sorry its been a bit since I was involved in sound tech but heres the just of it as follows. A 1 dB change in a sound equates to about a 26% difference in sound energy (remember that a 3 dB difference is a doubling of energy levels). In terms of subjective loudness, a 1 dB change yields just over a 7% change. A 3 dB change yields a 100% increase in sound energy and just over a 23% increase in loudness.

      Hey Buddy...what would be more awesome is when I start pulling wrenches! Lol I'm actually in my shop as we speak...scratching my head over an air to air setup without making it look like a plumbing nightmare... Meth is starting to look rather convenient. I had to step back from the intercooling, so there are a few air conditioning components sitting back where the once did over 20 years ago. Lol! Thanks for watching!!👍👍

    I kind of thought so. Totally makes sense... Thanks again!!👍👍

    Unfortunately NY has been pretty aggressive about the timeline for EV-only sales. I'll hold out as long as possible, especially considering I hold on to my cars so long. I don't dislike them, I just don't want one. 101 decibels seems pretty generous.😆

      Hey @SleazysGarage! I don't blame you for holding out, especially if you are happy with your current vehicles. And yes, it does look like 101 Db is quite generous. Thanks for watching!!👍👍

    I don’t understand how you can live in a place where they hate what we do with vehicles

    That seems high for IAT’s on such a cold day. Have you considered asking Vortech what they’d expect with your pulley ratio?
    I will certainly never swap an EV powertrain over to my Fox and I happen to know a fair bit about both. 😉

      As for the EV swap...you know someone is going to do it...however none of the cars in my stable would ever be a candidate, lol. I totally agree that the IAT was high. Especially just cruising it hit the 125F range. I'm only pullied for 8-1/2-9 psi, so I'm definitely underdriving this unit. All summer it has been quite consistently warm. It looks like air to air is off the table for a while. No room to run the piping, and the 90 degree exit on the volute doesn't help. I'll concentrate on the other items I want to look after. It will give me time to figure out another solution. Thanks for watching!👍👍

    Hey Mike...I agree it wouldn't be right to EV a special interest or classic, especially when it potentially could have some decent value. Plus the shear time and cost would be through the roof...although I'm sure someone has done a few already. If my car is truly at 94.5 Db at 3750, then alot of cars shouldn't have much to worry about to meet SGI's noise requirements. I wonder if the x-pipe gives a bit different results vs an H-pipe? I think I'll still get a second opinion with a different Db meter as I'm not sure if my friends older meter is out of calibration or not. Thanks for watching!👍👍

      So a over a decade ago here in Calgary we had the city try and implement a noise bylaw. They set up a testing strip and you basically did a 330' pull out at the old fire training grounds. I let my 89 GT eat. X pipe with equal length headers with flow master mufflers. No cats. 92.6 DB. I think our limit was supposed to be 96 or 98. Remember also each DB is twice the full number before it. It would take alot to even get to 100

    • @HighwayMike
      @HighwayMike 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      And yes the x pipes should be milder then H pipes because its scavenging the exhaust instead of the H pulsing side to side

    curious to see how the intercooler does! thanks Todd! my IAT on my n/a 349 are pretty high also and i'm pulling air from the foglight area

      @306foxbody1  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It appears that no matter how cold it is outside, once the air hits the blower, it gets pre-heated a certain amount even though I'm not under boost. Grabbing air from the inner fender or fog light is probably the best that either one of us can do for now...

      Hey @MrFriedpork, I saw the videos a while back...that's pretty amazing! 1500 hp, low 8s in the 1/4...and I didn't realize all the power is going though basically the same torque converter and transmission as a gas powered Cobra Jet. Thanks for watching, and for commenting!!👍👍

      Well, I find it very amazing that people are doing that. Sometimes I wish Ford would maybe get more involved and more people will be excited about an ‘electric race vehicle’. I’m all about muscle cars believe me I am fan I love my 84 GT and 1970 Olds at the same time electric car seems fun to. Thank 👍

    No, it is a crime to EV a classic. Also, there is no way you're anything close to 101DB.
