Good video. I'm looking for another FTM-xxx to run my Node so I can put the FTM-400 in my truck and trying to decide which to get. This helps. One thing - when you tried to connect to 'AmericaLnk' @49:45 or so, you're trying to connect to the Node. I think you can deny direct connections to the Nodes in the software. If you note in the list, some items have locations - those are the Nodes - Rooms don't have locations, but do show how many nodes are connected. Thanks for your video. I have been drawn to the FTM-400 because of the display size. I am 62 and appreciate bigger screens. Good comparison with the side by side. I agree with the comment on the finger prints. What I am also drawn to is the software to program the FTM-400 (i currently have a Anytone 878). What impressed me is seeing someone using software to grab repeaters in a radius and name them with a city name if you are getting ready for a trip. I wonder if the 300 has the same capability. The reason I am back looking at these 2 is that the 400 has increased in price so much to have doubled since 2019 or so. I will probably use my Anytone HT as my mobile VHF/UHF for now due to prices and wait until I can save up. My priority is to get HF mobile in the truck os the HT will give me VHF/UHF. The Anytone is a fine radio, but the software is complex to use (I can add channels, but it is cumbersome with their software). It seems like the software I have seen used on videos, look much easier with Yaesu rigs. All the best, thanks for your video. 73 de KI5HXM
These both look like great radios but my primary complaint with these and the 100D (which I own) is that the mic can't be plugged into the control head. That is a deal breaker for me. I have two of their 8900R rigs in our cars and this feature is a must as the radio is mounted under the seats which renders the mic cable far too short without connecting it to the remote mounted head. I suppose there is a reason Yaesu did this (to encourage people to use bluetooth options?) but it makes no sense to me. Buying a 3rd party mic extension and then finding a way to secure it in the car just makes no sense and this feature would be a simple fix for them.
I have the 300 and you just kept me from purchasing a 400. Thanks. That big screen is tempting, but I'm not feeling it now. Especially, since i use the mic for controlling the unit most of the time. Additionally, the touch seems slow like Android phones 10 years ago. (edit spelling)

The C4FM Calling frequency on the 2-Metre Band as defined by John Kruk N9UPC, Yaesu USA's General Sales Manager, is 145.56250MHz in DN mode using Simplex. You will be required to change Stepping to 12.5kHz. Baofeng is pronounced Bouw Feng in English sounding like Ouch. Yaesu is pronounced Yay Soo in Japanese. The P3 and P4 are the only programmable buttons on the MH-48 Microphone using the radio's SETUP key. My FT-8800R uses the MH-48 as well and it also can only program the P3 and P4 buttons by the radio's MENU key.
The Yaesu rep can say anything he wants, but each state likely has a band plan that this "suggestion" may or may not land within. The established 2M calling channel is 146.520 and if someone wants to have a digital convo, they can move to a different freq from there.
I have both, I don't like the touch screen, I constantly fat finger the keys, the 300 is so much better, and I like the display on the 300 much better.
Ok.. I've watched a lot of this. I have friends with both radios, I own neither. I like a lot of the features, I do have a ft5 portable and see many of these things on it. BUT, I just can't believe that the BLUETOOTH isn't used to make it possible on any of these radios to type messages WITH A KEYBOARD into the APRS message system. Seems like a no brainer and it would not be necessary to actually access the TNC which of course you cannot. I just think that the programming should include it as APRS Messaging is important to me. Using the 300 type system for messages isn't good at all, using what I understand to be a qwerty keyboard that is on the touch screen is better but not as good as a keyboard . Mike, not Captain Ron in the picture lol.
