Charlie, the ariel views are of Barnstaple Junction, not Victoria Road. By the way, you need a trap point between the double slip and the goods yard, to protect the passenger-carrying lines. You could always just insert a dummy one if you like. Looks like you'd have room for a headshunt though.

As always Charlie enjoyable factual and inspirational to watch, a lot of track work could have been avoided though as you stated early on that Dr Breeching had rationalised it , so a single line alone with DMU operation would be fine, please forgive my silly sence of humour and thank you again for your Great video's.

Hallo Charlie and Friends, I retired just after covid and I am a rookie at this, have been watching your channel for about a year now, always very good thank you. I am based in South Africa, our currency is weak and getting model railway goodies is difficult. I am still getting used to terminology used in the model railway channels. I also watch Marklin of Sweden, Luke Towan, Ron's Trains and Things and even Sams Trains. I am building an Arduino controlled turntable at present. Keep up the good show, thank you.

Just found these videos. You had your Barnstaples mixed up, Victoria Road is now a car park, it was a lot bigger than 3 coaches 7 at least and handled through trains to Ilfracombe post war. Now engine came on the back and took the other approach line to Barnstaple Junction, shown by the main road, once handled 10 coach rains, now just a single track. Your scenery is Excellent

'In the fullness of time' I have added some features to my small layout that make use of what you did here, and what you did here is still more useful! HI Charlie
Modifying peco points As you describe also prevents short circuits with stock that has larger wheels.
I originally left the point as original and placed insulated joiners on the frog rails
However, the point blades both assume the same polarity and are thepolarity of the rail that they are switched to(if that makes sense).
There now is only a small gap between a point blade and a nearby rail and they are different polarity
A overscale metal wheel especially at speed and on a curve Will short this out . Intermittently!!! Took me
A very annoying time to Work this out.
    Keep up the good work
    Howard

As a former carpenter, I will say this. you skills my not be the best, but I have seen worst in places where it will hold more weight so don't worry about it. I like that you use screws As these tend to not pull out, and as a carpenter you use what is to hand. So a good job as it works.

Hi Charlie. Hope you and all your family are well? That was really interesting on how you’ve built a small ramp so as it’s not all on the flat lands. Barnstaple junction station in its day was fantastic and glad your replicating if only in a small way. I can recall visiting the station back in 1974 as my Mum lived in IIfracombe but unfortunately I had to catch the bus as the line was closed but not lifted. It’s a shame it didn’t get preserved as a heritage line. I think they tried but didn’t have any success as the line has gone now 😫 Take care until the next exciting episode of Chadwick. Cheers Stevie.

Hi Charlie, thank you for all your videos they are very good value and inspiring. The vision of you writing in all the swear words to be filtered by your comments section is hilarious. While I'm here I'd just like to refer to your comments about giving priority replies to subscribers over non subscribers. I think this is the wrong approach because as you should be aware I am not a subscriber to your channel because of the simple reason I watch many different channels on many different subjects and don't want to be bombarded with emails from TH-cam every day. Having binge watched all your videos over the past couple of months and will continue to do so, I think You tubers focusing on subscribers even prioritising subscribers over non subs is a road to disaster. Just food for thought and thanks for the great content.

Charlie, I've literally just finished building the baseboards and upper level (only taken me two years) and have had to drill and countersink every screw, and NOW you tell me about those drill bits!!!!!!!! lol! Great wee bit of kit.
The area is coming on well, love the contrast between the incline and decline, it'll look brilliant once it's done. Cheers, John.

You presentations are wonderful. You're so succinct and yet technically descriptive. Your self effacing sense of humor emerges too. For my needs: I'm developing an N gauge layout after a 64 year hiatus from model trains. I purchased some Peco flex track and two insulfrog turnouts. However, I am still in a quandary about whether I should prefer insulfrogs or electrofrogs. My layout will be DCC and I will not likely have legacy locos, all new. I expect that my choice of new locos will mean that I don't need electrofrogs. Right? If I asked you a similar question in the past, please excuse me, but I need some certainty before I invest in more turnouts.

    • @ChadwickModelRailway
      @ChadwickModelRailway  2 ปีที่แล้ว

Hi Jerry, I would always lean towards electrofrog. With short wheelbase locos, such as 0-6-0 and 0-4-0, their pick-ups are limited. They also look much more realistic. Regards Charlie

Hi Charlie. Great video. I;m waiting for the weather to get better so that I can get on with my O gauge in the garden. I will have gradients there too.
Just a note on prototypical practice that you may find interesting. I used to work for BR as a guard and I often see model trains running in videos with their cab lights on all the time. On the big railway, drivers only use the cab lights to enter or exit the train (unless stationary and having a cuppa etc). The reason forthis is that at night the cab lights bounce back off the windscreen, making seeing outside almost impossible. Try opening your curtains at night and try to see outside and you will see what I mean. Don't put the cab lights on all the time "just because you can", is the answer.
Great times watching your works on the layout.
    All the very best. Paul
