    Not sure how I fell into this wallet rabbit hole, but I've probably watched 100 different wallet reviews and I still can't find a wallet that checks all the right boxes for me. There's lots to like out there, this wallet included, but there's always SOMETHING that keeps me from pulling the lever. Not sure why that is.

      Narrow it down to material, then carefully consider what you carry and how you carry. Do you like lighter (slim) wallets or don't mind something bigger like a bifold. Finally, determine how many cards you HAVE to carry, not that you WANT to carry.

    I got my A10 in the mail yesterday and I like it so far. The rail system on it takes a little getting use to with four cards in the slot. Got three cards in the front for now to help lossen the DTEX to get the cards out a little easier. Like to see them come with one of the M1 attachments next.

    • @MBynum
      @MBynum 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was debating on getting the bifold accessory based on my previous Dango wallet I was carrying 10 cards. But since I'm trimming down the amount of cards I have to at least 5-6 (including ID and debit card), the single card attachment should work for me. And adding three cards in the front definitely losses the DTEX if you leave it like that for a day or two. Actually was able to add another thing ID card as a 4th card to it just for kicks.

    I had an issue with this wallet when it arrived. The company stripped 2 screws during assembly. It made it had to get the screw out to change the face plate. I contacted the company and they said since I damaged the face plate (despite them being the reason) and not sending it in, they wouldn’t honor anything. No support phone number makes them seem shady too.

    The flexure built into the rail is a clever feature for holding cards , but I'm concerned that it won't provide enough holding force to serve the dual function of sufficiently securing the card expansion adapter without it sliding off when going in and out of a pocket. Is a set screw or some other mechanism provided to provide an additional component of force to prevent this from happening?

    Nice review since I've carrying my favorite wallet the trayvax OG2 blue for over a year now this A10 is the only other wallet I've considered purchasing I I love the money clip on my og2 so I'm very curious if the optional money clip would work with the bifold a10 or one side of the bifold would get in the way. Also I've been debating the huge price difference to get similar card capacity of my og2 for $29 compared to over $120 for the bifold a10 and optional clip.

    • @TongueJedi

      the bifold wouldn't work with the clip. it will get in the way covering the back. Also keep in mind when adding any of the attachments you lose the card/ID window since the add-on takes the place of the rail. however, you still have the hidden compartment for cash, key etc

    One thing you never seem to touch on in your reviews is everyday use as it pertains to carrying it. What I mean by that is how does it fit in your pockets, what's the best way to carry said wallet, does it put holes in your clothes from the different materials since its metal, or is it even comfortable to sit on if in your back pocket? Those sorts of things.

      I would never carry my wallet in my back pocket, that's bad for your spine. I have the bifold maverick, it's slimmer than a traditional wallet, but being steel it is rigid and hard so it doesn't flex. That said, it fits just fine in any pants I wear, if your normal wallet fits you should have no problems.

  • @hepgeoff
    @hepgeoff 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Nice review. One concern I have for all metal wallets, is how well does it carry in your pocket? Will it wear holes in your pockets over time, and will it scratch my iPhone in the same pocket?

    • @chimchu3232
      @chimchu3232 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No. Been carrying mine for a year and a half, I don't carry my wallet in the same pocket as my phone, so can't really attest to the scratching your phone question, but I think it would be unlikely. All the edges of the steel are well rounded off, nothing sharp on it, an mine has leather pockets on both sides that kinda pad it. I've never once had it wear a hole or otherwise damage pant material

    • @chimchu3232
      @chimchu3232 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is different having a hard steel wallet, doesn't flex in your pocket or anything, but overall they are smaller and slimmer than most traditional wallets so I find I don't even notice a difference in most cases

    Perhaps you should consider rating packaging as well? A rating separate from the wallet's would be interesting, to me at least! Is the packaging recyclable? Is it reusable? Is it wasteful? In this day and age, sustainability is a legit consideration with any product.

    • @walletopia
      @walletopia  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great insight. While I don't have a rating explicitly for that I do wrap some of that into the perception rating. As you might have noticed packaging is big with me as it shows how well the company is trying to present their brand and principles. If they've put great thought into the packaging, then you know the product will usually be good.

      FYI, the M1 Rail review is scheduled for publish very soon. The concept of the flexible entry head that snaps cards into place is incorporated twice in the A10. I believe that the failing, which isn't that big a deal to me, is the tolerances of the plastic in the accessory which does allow some play and rattle if you move it around. Other than that, the connection for security is really good.

The cavity space between the slider and the card carry spot in the back is good, but since you have to fold your cash twice or in thirds, too much cash would be a problem, OR it would keep the slider more secure :). The difference came down to a higher score for the Houbei on features and usability. That's due to the cash wrap function versus the cash folding on the Insider. Capacity is also much higher on the Houbei.

  • @bogiesan
    @bogiesan 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I found the A10 with the dtex bifold interesting but ultimately unusable. In addition to all the weird stuff you pointed out, the lips of the dtex pockets are sewn into positions that catch the top edge card in the pocket; the card cannot be removed without serious fiddling. The noise, the bills interfering with the slider, limited rail capacity … it’s a cool product with no practical functionality. I hate it.

    Not the wallet for me.
    - Relatively large, thick, and heavy for something that carries only 5 cards and 2 bills.
    - Due to its metal frame, it can’t be stored in the same pocket with other items I don’t want scratched, like my phone.

      It's the one for me! Woooooo

    • @walletopia
      @walletopia  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm carrying the A10 now for a future carry test video and I've had to move items from pockets due to the metal, my car keys are in the same pocket now versus glasses. But from a weight perspective it's very light, much more than other Dango's I have. I also discovered today that the DTEX is NOT RFID, I've been tap paying like a bandit, which is so convenient.

    • @SteelHex
      @SteelHex 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It is lighter than other Dango wallets, but compared to a Bellroy Note Sleeve or a Trove or any other 5-card 2-bill wallets, it is bulky and hefty.
      It does have a certain tactical look and it can be used as an ID holder. These features would appeal to certain people, but not to me. My 4 pant pockets are filled with a smartphone (sometimes two), a multitool, a card wallet, a hand sanitizer spray bottle, keys, and occasionally a pocket .380. A front pocket wallet to me needs to have a small footprint and non-marring material, because it may share space with 1-2 other objects.

    • @walletopia
      @walletopia  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Agreed, it has to meet your carry strategy or it’s no good, especially when a wallet is only thing one item on your EDC list.
