I can't get over how great your chateau looks. I think you should write about your journey from struggling and sleep deprived to duvet dust and a mattress in the sky. Your struggle is real and I love that you don't sugarcoat it. For those that have wanted to give up, you are an example of why we must hold on to the tiniest desire to push on. Kudos to you.
You could also check into a convection/ toaster oven. Provides cooking abilities in a small space. Now that you have your couch, you can entertain in small bits.
Jay, as a Brazilian living in Berlin but always in love with France and personal experiences, I'd definitely buy your book and recommend to my friends!
I would love a days in the life type book of your exploits in Paris. A favorite of mine is Adam Gopniks’ “Paris to the moon” because it includes real life essays of his time there. As busy as you are, I’m sure you have many stories to include that would be fun to read!
Every sports person in Australia writes an autobiography by the time then "retire" at age 30+ years. I personally like autobiographical books about English speaking people who stay in France. Their books are how they adjust to the French way of life, with lots of funny and / or sad / or good stories. "Almost French" written by Sarah Turnbull is one such a book and I think I read that is sold, world wide, about 400,000 copies!
@@JaySwanson "A meaningful angle"... Yes a focal point. Another book I read was the story of chance meeting in Paris between an American woman and a Frenchman. She returned to the United States, and the French man wrote 7 letters to her, and she did not reply to any of his love letters. Twenty years later she made a connection with the same Frenchman. They are now living in France somewhere happy with a family. The Angle of the Book she wrote are the seven letters which are reproduced throughout the book. I do not know how many copies this book sold. I am sure that you will come up with a good structure and meaning.
Thanks for your dedication to this vlog. It's great to see how you're carving out a life of the vision you have dreamed. I was in Paris a month ago and thought it would be fun to bump into you 😏. My wife is trying to find a way for us to spend a month in Paris in a year and a half. As a dentist it would be difficult to shut down my practice that long... Best wishes to you!
Ex-pat life in Paris, with your med ship history, and how you got your visa, etc. is definitely book material. There are a lot of people who would like to be where you are. Don’t sell your self or you story short!
i love these kinda videos, just wholesome talkin-to-the-camera type of vloggin. as far as non-fiction goes, i think a lot of emphasis is put on this misguided notion that writing about ourselves is a process to be left for later years. however, i think a lot of creators who do want to engage in narrative non-fiction project a fear of it which stems from a false narrative surrounding aged wisdom, etc. i mean, in a way, you are already writing this story through your vlogs which we all find so appealing. obviously, write what’s right, but i think experience is valid regardless of time the you’ve had to reflect on them. or absent of the ones which are yet to come!
Thanks Joshua! I really appreciate that input. Avoiding a pretense of wisdom or preachiness would be high on my list of priorities (and reasons I've avoided doing it)
Jay - I lived as an expat in the States for almost 40 years and for me the strangeness was a creative plus. But the US is so diverse that there are plenty of people who did not all see the same tv shows or sing the same songs, whereas in France and Europe the populus is much more homogenous, although Paris actually should be unique again with so many expats from so many places living there.
I love your daily vlog and enjoy it enormously. I also worry like so many others when you post late. Having said that, though, I think taking a break is good for you, and going to India is the perfect opportunity to take a break. There is so much to see and do, and while filming is probably going to be important for you, the editing may just be too much. Against my best and selfish interest, I think a break is good for you.
When you’re walking around filming are you holding the phone and filming with the back camera or are you switching between the front and rear cameras? Not saying I’m obsessed but I’ve watched way too much of your life since I’ve discovered you a few days ago. Great vlog, keep up the good work man!
Thanks Travis! And I always use the back camera, never the selfie cam (the quality difference is pretty stark). Here's the full how-to here: th-cam.com/video/BIh6ljY1T8k/w-d-xo.html (Although I don't know if I addressed that specifically now that I think about it) Thanks for watching!
hey, im new here, dude! u have such a nice channel, u gotta get yourself that youtube check mark thingy, it will definitely translate into some new people "first clicking" more often, kinda sad for you, u put so much work in your vlogs, really wish u the best and want u to succeed! subscribed
Hey, I am going to Paris for my birthday on 03/12/2018 and after everything that’s been going on I don’t know whether I should be worried or not about our safety there. Can you please give me an advice of what to do? Thank you
There's no specific danger to be worried about. Protests in Paris are somewhat common. Just avoid where they happen (that is if they do) and you should be good to go. Greeting from Paris
Like they said above, nothing to worry about. They shut down those stops on the metro and are very concerned with safety in general, so you'd be hard pressed to wander into a protest without knowing well in advance. Paris is generally a very safe city.
I think a book about your Paris experience would be good.
Thanks =)

Hope you are keeping safe there Jay with everything that's going on.
Safe and sound =)
Sleepy self care Saturday, socked full of sappy sentiment, smarmy Snipes, and some... reflective reminiscences. 😃 Congrats to Sonja.
Sonja's killing it =)
Wow the clarity on your video today was incredible.!!!! Congrats Sonja & also to Natalie!!!!!
Thank you! I'm enjoying the camera a lot =D
You could also check into a convection/ toaster oven. Provides cooking abilities in a small space. Now that you have your couch, you can entertain in small bits.
I have a toaster oven thanks to Renna - it's awesome!
Jay, as a Brazilian living in Berlin but always in love with France and personal experiences, I'd definitely buy your book and recommend to my friends!
Thanks Elaine =)
I would love to see an autobiography and have Sonja illustrate it!
Sonja's got the skills =)
I LOVE the creativity you apply to your goal setting and tracking. Very cool!
Thanks =)

Thanks Scott! =)
I Love to read memoirs about people's experiences moving to different countries (especially France/Italy). Also love the clarity with the new camera!
The new camera has been a lot of fun =D
WOW your place is looking AWESOME!!!! Congrats...
Thanks Debra!

I think my struggle revolves most around structure and ensuring it's got a meaningful angle

I like the new way of the goals map. So interesting. And really wish you soon to reach 100k and right after it the Bigger home one.
Thanks! =D

Start handing out dentures now and you should be covered over that month while you're here ;D
I would totally read a book about your life! I find your journey fascinating. And whos to say that you can't write another book about yourself at 50?
Jay 2.0 - The Update ;)
I would love to read a book about your Paris experiences!

Thanks Rene =)
Happy Sunday!
Happy Monday! ;D

And you could start dating and being in a relationship could go a long way towards feeling more part of it all ! 😉
Let them eat updates haha 😂

I'll take a real break at the end of this season - that's definitely my plan =D Here's hoping the editing doesn't kill me in India haha
apropos lighting: possibility could be under cabinet lighting from ikea( for kitchen cabinets) that concept has a wireless remote control with it.
Definitely need to make an ikea trip!
But you are a sweet guy with a cool life in Paris.
When you’re walking around filming are you holding the phone and filming with the back camera or are you switching between the front and rear cameras?

One word for lighting, you’re gonna laugh, IKEA. Attractive, without breaking the bank.
I've thought about it actually, I might hit it up in a few weeks
Serbian women in science? That's gonna fly off the shelves! 🙂
They did really well that night =D
I'm definitely interested in your expat experience book. five years on, does it existe?
Hi Jay, when are you planning to visit India? Hope Delhi is in your itinerary, so that I can get a chance to see you.... 😀

Sadly that's a chicken and egg situation as I've gotta have 100k subs first, but thanks for jumping in to get me a step closer! =D

Hi Greta, perfectly safe here. The Champs is pretty much back to normal. I was out there during the riots, not as bad as it sounds in the news.
Make sure you go to Montmartre off Abessess station and the Sacre coeur, the catacombs of paris are also fascinating.
There's no specific danger to be worried about. Protests in Paris are somewhat common. Just avoid where they happen (that is if they do) and you should be good to go.
Greeting from Paris
Thank you so much, I was starting to get worried a little bit

What males a life better with age??? experiences are experiences! write an auto biography!
=)
Do the shirts shrink? Or are they pre shrunk? Thx!
They should all be pre-shrunk =)
How do we sponsor a bottle of bubbly for your 2019 goals? 🍾
I never thought about it, but I'm open to ideas 😄👾
You are sometimes a little manic!!!
It's been known to happen =)
