      That's awesome Sam.
      Great skills for any kiddie to learn. Iv got a 13 year old & 6 year old boys, they love this kinda stuff. Put a shaken up fizzy pop can in the way of the trap, it'll put a smile on ya sons face :)
      Did another lethal type trap a few months ago called the Spring spear trap & I'm recording another tomorrow called the Bow trap. Lots of fun.
      Cheers
      Andy

    another great video. Only comment on improvement is when setting trigger since your not sure on what type of ground you have to set it on to prevent sinkage I would put a small flat piece of bark from a tree or a flat rock that way it wont sink trigger in ground. Also when setting trap, to prevent accidental discharge of claw you can put a stick between claw arm and the outer sticks to hold the arm back. (safety precaution) Once trigger is set you can remove it. and trap will be active.
    Good luck on the hunt.

    Kudos for an extremely engaging, informative video, with a “to the point” explanation. That trap is fiercely serious, and I was admittedly a little stressed when you were setting it.

      Works well on the Rabbits. Not the most practical of trap for them, but still, a very cool trap ☺

    I never understood why this trap was never included in any survival manual I have read... It's a excellent trap though, have harvested many animals with a Kleptsy trap...

      Me too. It's defantly worthy enough to be in them.
      We'll have to make our own survival manual buddy lol.
      Iv only ever built this trap to the scale of this one in the video, but it's the only one of my three "Lethal" titled traps that iv live set and harvested critters from.
      Pesting on the farm, set it twice with cabbage bait, and got a rabbit both times. Got the first through the upper back (4" nail for the point), then with a few adjustments, I got the second in the back of its head.
      Many more easier ways of trappin Rabbit, but it's still a very cool little trap :)
      Cheers Rob

      I use a similar method for fisher, lynx, and wolf. My method is set up different; being that i use a natural hole in the ground, wooden box, or some sort of tubing. Tubing works best, as one end is securely screened; enabling better sent flow. I then use put a small hole near back of box or tube, to pass the bait and trigger.
      I wind up the spike, adjust trigger, and sprat a bit of beaver caster to mask my scent.

    You could use the bottom piece of wood as the base of your trigger and at an angle to avoid the issues with soft ground.

    • @ClanGunnBushcraft
      @ClanGunnBushcraft  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Your welcome Doretha, thanks for your comment. The food (the bait) goes on the trigger spike. (bait stick) There's two parts to the trigger mechanism, one of them has a spike, put the food on that or you can tie the food onto either part of the trigger. If you skip to 3:33 in this video, I talk about these parts.
      Let me know how it goes,
      thanks

    This trap could be improved by making it a live trap. Instead of using the spike block off the back and top and make the trip close a small gate instead of the spike. You could use it for something larger like a racoon or an opossum.

      Thanks Garrett.
      That's it... they'll always be us few that keep these skills going. I'm fascinated by any primitive traps. There's so many that don't work practically, but this one's very effective. It's been used for centuries and is more commonly known as a Kelepsy trap. I just put my own take on it and changed a few bits like the trigger mechanism, so I renamed it haha.
      Thanks,
      Andy

    where does the bait go?

    • @ClanGunnBushcraft
      @ClanGunnBushcraft  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's a two part trigger. The part that touches the ground has a spike towards the top. Bait can be pushed or bound right there.
      This was my first ever trap demo video... I forgot to take bait lol.
