The Toyota Auris is a seriously practical family car - and is aimed at a wide range of rivals, including some of the best on sale: big sellers like the Volkswagen Golf and Ford Focus. The Auris falls short of delivering the appeal of these thanks to a limited engine choice and range, and a slightly bland cabin However, it should prove dependable and reliable and it's very easy to drive. All versions have air conditioning and lots of useful storage pockets dotted around the entire cabin. Plus, crucially, there's space for taller adults on the back seats.
The Auris gets loads of safety features, including nine airbags and traction control, which help it achieve a five-star Euro NCAP rating. However, Toyota's well-documented accelerator pedal issues in 2010 extended to the Auris. The problem has been rectified now though, and the car has largely proved electrically and mechanically reliable. The 2010 revisions to the range added much higher quality 'soft touch' cabin plastics throughout.

I've had this car for nine years. never had a problem. in the street it's perfect and I drive pretty sporty. The advice to anyone with little money is really an excellent car.
Cap Thecap hello. I have just bought the used auris. What about the CVT sealed gearbox? Does it require periodic oil change?
Dopo 13 anni mai nessun problema sulla mia auris 1.4 d del 2007...ottima auto
Thanks for information, I intend to buy one of these
@@MrWindrop yes
Excellent car prone to head gasket problems with high kms
He went from Toyota Auris in Carbuyer to Rolls Royce Phantom in CarWow. Hats off, Mat.
Had the car for ghe last 4 years 1.6 petrol 2011 semi auto - great car , economical , required servicing only so far !!! Always starts and drives - the most troublefree car i had for ages
Really. Just about to buy a 2011. Is the mmt gearbox ok . Does it struggle around hills and roundabouts or needed any attention like the 08 versions. Thanks
So far this engine is bulletproof. I really drive the heck out of the car being a taxi driver. Most reliable vehicle I have ever had and I have gone through Fords, Vauxhalls, Skodas, Peugeot, Citroen, VW and Mazdas. The only time this car goes to the garage is tyres and a service.
Bruce Lee What engine does yours have ?
What engine and mileage pls?
@@thomaskennedy9669 1.6 petrol 151k
@@biggerbitcoin5126 Is it the Dual VVT-i or the Valvematic? I just bought a Dual VVT-i 2008 Auris with 70K and I hope it will be with me for life!
@@SteelmanArgument vvti they are bulletproof
For what it is, this car was rather impressive. Even the complaints Mat raised didn't seem to be much of a big deal. A hard interior. So what?
The reviewer does the usual professional journalist rubbish, raps on random parts of the dash and says it feels cheap. I don't ever recall a time where I started feeling up random parts of my car or even biting bits of the trim then commenting they were not soft touch plastics... Pathetic reviewers.
I’ve got one and had one for 7 years. The only thing that’s ever gone wrong with it is there was a short in the brake light wiring and it melted the bulb seat. That and letting my wife drive it.
@@TheThejpmshow I'd say that's great if that's your only issue with it.
@@eternalhalloween1 as you know Toyota reliability is world famous.. Japanese in general I think too - my wife had a Mitsubishi Colt for a decade. Coil pack and 2 headlight bulbs failed in that time. That’s it. My Auris has got 73k on the clock and it still feels as tight as a drum.
@@TheThejpmshow That is great! Every now and then, you have the good fortune, to have a car, that gives you very little to complain about.
My dad bought this 2007 one and we still have it with 100k miles. Never had major issues just water pump replaced. Reliable af.... Drove to so many places in it. Petrol manual gearbox, 1.6 vvti engine
Still got mine, 2007 model. And in Australia they are called Toyota Corolla ZRE model, mines also a hatchback. It’s fine over 180,000 KMs.
2021 this will be my first car
Matt has come a long way
looks better than the new one
only 2019 corolla really looks better, but Auris after this one - AWFUL!
My mum bought this car around 4-5 years ago we still have haha
Silver 60 plate good lad
I'd take this over a Vauxhall or Ford
Absolutely. Vauxhall cars don't hold their value well and Ford are behind the times lol.
True
Simply it's reliable as fuck.. If you don't wanna have car issues and travel from A to B without breaking down it's a good bet. It's rather boring though, but somebody just wants to travel without problems
MrThomas And that's enough for me
Indeed, I use a black 2011 hybrid version as my daily driver.
Only had to replace the 12v battery once, in 6 years.
Yes I can understand if you find it too reliable...... Come to our house and I will give you 3 flat tyres may help
Just my own experiences about Auris 2007 1.4 diesel which I have driven for two weeks (because my Passat b6 was repaired after car accident).
In my opinion it is very good and smoothly car for everyday, cheap to ran, very easy to drive, comfort of ride for me more than enough. My wife was also surprised by this car, because earlier for her was just few brands (BMW and Infiniti FX). So This car is tend to be like second car for family, cheap and quite comfi to run for everyday.
My Toyota Auris 2012 is showing on the dashboard that it's engaged in 4wd but have looked everywhere and can't find the button, now I'm failing to disengage 4wd and out of options.
Does this car have hill start assist? if yes, how to activate the same? Your answer will be of great help, thanks.
i own one, purchased from new in May 2009.Extemely reliable car not a single issue since now, good quality of assy, strong power 124 hp but it lacks a six speed gear box.It is roomy and comfortable althoug the back seats are a little hard.
- he has got a set time to review the car .. so I think he did a pretty good job
Thinking of getting it as my first car.
Please do a review on that little blue and green car at the beginning of the video :)
This is the carwow guy!
Whats the differece in this and the Yaris?
Toyota all the way its a car for a life!
Can you recline the back seats in the hybrid version as well?
Is the auris the Euro version of the Corolla ?
why all british journalist like ford motors and use it as a bench mark .... i dont see any good in ford
@TD4f22 No. The corolla is still produced. In europe, the corolla is the 4 door sedan, and the auris "replaced" the 3 and 5 door version of the corolla.
what's the rush when you review the interior? chill man...take your time you're presenting a car not a horse race ;)
C005 haha
C005 his girlfriend was home alone
Does the car has a toaster also?
I used to have one from brand new, and want to buy this again, but more updated model maybe higher spec

Try the toyota blade same interior but it is a hot hatch with a v6 from a toyota rav 4 and 220-310 horsepower toyota also used it for a track car in japan with a rather sporty look.

English build are good, this Auris is very goos
Oh my god where is direction?
Does this Auris have a MMT (Robotic) Tranmission or a CVT one?
only the auris hybrid
@jmcclelland85 no...corolla stopped being produced and auris replaced it
How much toyota aures
@c00smeen what rush lol??
Car is good yes I dont like the cheap qulity plastics but thats same for all cars these days you wont get high materials like we used to get back in 80s and 90s cars with good relible plastics and metrials.
In my country this is called Corolla RunX
Opel and ford has put money for presentation, toyota for safety and reliability. Select what is more important :)
can you please review the Toyota Avalon ?
it's really luxury car !! thx ! 10/10
Yes and some people think in a different way :)
Who is better 2.0 diesel or 1.4 diesel?
io ho la 1.4 diesel da 13 anni e mi sono trovato benissimo, mai in problema e la potenza é più che sufficiente in città e in autostrada...i consumi sono ridotti rispetto alla 2000
Ok what car is the best in this segment there's way too much choice. What do you guys suggest? Matt won't tell us.
how times change, the corolla is one of the best cars in the segment now
Hi i have toyota auris 2008 but I couldn't find audio aux or usb port
it comes with the facelift in 2010
My 2007 Toyota auris dosent have aux/USB port why is this
Because you bought the cheapskate spec.
nice car
this or kia ceed
Vauxhall Astra Or Ford Focus
True true !
new Auris look so plastic and cheap, this is so stylish and cute Auris, i hate new Auris :(
Totaly agree..
Cool-car.
nice
ok but man the hyundai's is too complicated (the body of the car) the auris is just more clean :)
Very nice car. Much better than the new one . New one is absolute trash
lol, the 'Auris" is actually called 'Corolla' in Australia
Good review BUT 2:45 "some of the materials feel a little low-rent when compared to an Opel Astra" . Ha ha ha ! Thank God the reviewer didn´t compare the Auris interior materials to the entire Peugeot range of models built between 2002 and 2010. Pieces of the interior LITERALLY fall off the car when touched, pushed or pulled! Build quality of interior - zero. Put together by five-year olds at primary school. 206,307, 207,406, 407. I used to drive 3 or 4 different models short distances every day. I hear Peugeot have improved that scandalous tacky plastic big time over the last 4 or 5 years though.
mediastarguest I
This car looks similar to Toyota Corolla 2005
Hello everybody Mat Watson here from Carwow
@MrUrahypocryt Well Auris is Actually Corolla in Hatch version. ;)
Lol that's the guy from carwow
I have its rally good car
It's a good car for rally?
Toyota all the way!
Ford and Opel can go sleep
Is this mat Watson?
Yes
Are you australian?
Ôto Sài Gòn lol
Ôto Sài Gòn
British
No way. I FOUND MAT 😂
yes yes ok never said hyundai are bad especially the Genesis but I personally like Toyota better being Japanese and all (sry 4 bad spelling) :)
A toyota vios look alike hatchback
u must press clutch when u start this car or it will be some errors in the display .
There is no clutch in this automatic car. You must press and hold the brake pedal down, then press the start button to start the engine..
@c00smeen Maybe he wants to show that he is enthusiastic about these reviews and its his passion to review cars... Or the director might have told him to do so :P
can't stand the halfpipe dash though
Have had 2 Toyota Auris Hybrid cars and enjoyed both however got rid of earlier this year as unfortunately they along with the Prius are much sought after by Eastern European catalytic converter collectors due to the value of the part for scrap and the ease that it can be stolen .
So many have been taken in my area with no possibility of the chaps being taken to task as it is apparently regarded as a victimless crime . Countless sad tales over at Toyota on their own blog , This though is just the tip of the iceberg . Shame as they are great cars . @t
hi mat watson. Could you make a review on Toyoya Donkey Cart ? It is very very fuel efficient. People will like it.
this is far superior to ford focus.
Ford Focus does not hold its value well and less practical, but cheap to buy than the Ford C-max (2007-10).
Yeah but boring.
Focus is a better looking car though,Auris has bug eye lights
@letsplay14me I'm not trying to be a douche...he's reviewing a car...you need a little more time than that if you're thinking at buying it...
My mum has this car 😀
In Europe, Ford has been a really good brand for years, especially when it comes to the Focus. Eurpean Fords and American Fords are not the same. European Fords are more reliables and refined.
cars without character and style but good overall
young matt watson hahahahaha
❤️❤️❤️🇧🇩
First generation
I think you touch on what most Toyota's are especially in the U.S. Dull, boring and cheap interiors. its gotten bad here.
@c00smeen it is a trick man
House or car? What the fuck are you doing with all of those stuff in your car?
Had mine since 2014 (it’s a 2011 plate)
Few electrical problems
- bulb seat for OS brake light melted
- OS wing mirror side repeater failed
- few interior bulbs
That’s it
80k on the clock and still feels as tight as a drum
Does your Auris have a MMT (Robotic) Tranmission or a CVT one?
@@kr1ss00 6 speed manual
the 2008 - 2010 Astra interiors are the ugliest things I ever saw
nooooooooooo man the new i30 is not better than the auris HANDS DOWN !!
It is not as well build nor will it be as reliable, or hold its value as well, nor have the same level of customer service that Toyota is famous for. For out and out quality you can not beat Toyota.
Bought a vw golf instead and I'm happy with the golf
I changed from Golf to this car and I'm way happier now.
What model was ur golf
I've had the Golf mk6 and Auris side by side, Auris is way better in every aspect
Ford Focus is king ,better than any German and Japanese rubbish 😂
Vauxhall got these features 25 yeas ago.
+telosfd Vauxhall got nothing but rust for free standard feature for all its models.
S.T.T. Damn son
