I can't imagine any BABYMETAL fans having a problem with Nemophila - and they did a really good job with their cover. Apparently all the fox masks, BABYMETAL towels, t-shirts etc are from Saki's personal collection - she is a big BABYMETAL fan.🦊
A important point that was overlooked. I dont believe Su even if allowed could scream & growl close to the level of Mayu. Nice Haraguchi-san was acknowledged on how good of bassist she is. Most of the time (excluding live shows) people focus on the other band members.
Great reaction, thanks for giving it a listen, glad you enjoyed it. Thanks to everyone who voted for it as well! All around its just a really fun video - the band is clearly having a great time, and it carries over to the video. Guitarist Saki (standing in front of the banner) is a huge Babymetal fan and supplied most of the Memorabilia. In addition to the banners and the masks, they were all wearing Babymetal concert shirts as well (except for Mayu in the kimono obviously).
It is very difficult not to gush over the Nemophila ladies. In all the cover versions they have made that I have seen, the musicianship is great, the effort they put into props and clothing, make up, plus the fun they are having all oozes from the screen. Add in the kawaii smiles and you hooked.😍 Your score was higher than I guessed. You can say all you like but Haraguchi - san, smiling and playing her bass, was worth an extra point from you! 😀
Hey David met you at Love Bites. Hope you enjoyed the show. Going to see Mass Of The Fermenting Dregs at The Vermont in Hollywood Tuesday 9/17. Should be a good show. I dig Nemophila's cover. I'm a huge fan of the band
I think you were spot on 100%. Su's vocals are my more favored but Mayu lifted pretty well getting a close second in the 2nd half with the actual screams.
As far as paying tribute, you should see what they do for the Journey-Separate Ways" cover that they did. Love this band! Also, Murata Tamu can slip up once in a while, but she is an amazing drummer as showcased on their originals.
I’m a huge fan of both bands. I’ve attended many concerts of both around the US and in Japan. I understand what you mean on the vocalists. Personally my top three are Su-Metal, Mayu, and Asami (not in any order). They are so different in styles and techniques. For me it really depends on the musical composition as to which fits better on any particular song. Fabulous singers and of course the rest of the musicians.
I've heard their cover twice or more and never noticed the flaw on the double kick. And I really imagine how would it be if Su and the garls screamed here and there, glad now we have Momo to do it. As usual grabed my snack for the full review. Good one.
nemophila is a great band and their covers are some of the best ever. They happen to be big fans of babymetal which is why the babymetal merch was everywhere and they all had baby metal pony tails. Lets be impressed by the fact they covered the Kami band also, which is itself extremely impressive and they did it live. I am with you on that, mistakes prove live performance and with group like this(or band maid or mamamoo vocals) it mistakes are very rare and they all recover so well it is hard to catch but live is always the best way to hear a song. Yes Su Metal's voice is just made for those baby metal songs, Mayu has a wonderful voice but doesnt quite have the clarity and resonance that Su metal has, the singer in Metalverse< miko comes very close and Solar of mamamoo has the same power, clarity and resonance and could do it but really Su Metal does have a somewhat unique voice. I also like the cover better than the original.
They performed this song live on their first live stream ever. That version is on my channel if anyone wants to see. All the BM merch here is Saki's. She is a big fan. They would of made a great all female kami band. Of course Without those horrible masks.
True baby metal fan here. Thank you David for playing this. This actually is the way I discovered baby metal. I thought this was nemophilia original song after watching many of their videos. But when I researched it again to play on my kit baby metal came up. It’s been love ever since. Baby metal forever 👉🦊👈🤘. Stay metal everyone
Respekt David.
The set up in this vid brings back memories of the old days jamming in garages, basements or those tight rooms in the dungeon beneath the music stores(yes Ampeg was always the way...those times I put the guitar down and picked up the bass when I had to). Mayu sounds more Hard rock to me, versus metal. She has a very gritty style with lots of fry...Aerosmith, GnR, Nazareth esq. kind of thing. I like this band, and hope they go far. Having said that, I've yet to hear a female vocalist that can touch Su's tone. It's inexplicable, but her voice just pierces my soul for some reason.
As a BM fan, I can say I prefer the original one, BUT I love this performance too! The pig scream part in this cover is fantastic. Great job, Nemophila. 🦊🦊🍅
I agree that Su's vocals suit this song more than Mayu, just like Mayu's vocals would suit Nemophila songs better than Su. Although I loved how Mayu added the harsh vocals.
Saki the guitar player is a massive fan of babymetal and they kinda changed it up with the screaming parts after the breakdown i dont recall babymetal do that unless you count the pigsqueels but i dont think that that is them either i think it is a track or a member of the KAME band that does it please let me know what you think
First off, no im not one of those babymetal fans that hate what everyone else does, i really do like to listen to covers and see how they take the song and make their own, so i had high hopes for this one, but i got bored, didnt like this, it wasnt bad, i would prob be in the 7s, but i didnt like it, for me it didnt sound good, ofcourse they play and did the song good, but this was not for me
Nemophila did really good cover of Megitsune and it shows that this song is not an easy song to cover for vocal. when Su young she's said this song really hard to sing at live and even today you can still hear she struggle to sing while dancing to this song.
It's a great cover, and worth doing for the added screams which makes it different. And the girls of Nemophila are fun enough for it to feel genuine. One of Baymetal's writers (Ryu-metal) wrote the song 'Hammer Down' for Nemophila, so there is a link between them and Babymetal. Su doesn't growl, but I do think Su's clean vocals are quite a lot more powerful than Mayu's on this song. Apart from that it's as good as you can get without it being the Kami Band.
Thank you for not saying [play video clip here]. A nice score. Nemophila covers tend to be straight tributes, usually incorporating references to original videos or some other kind of nod to the original artist. In the case of their cover of Journey's 'Separate Ways', they reenacted whole portions of the original video. Where they deviate musically from the original songs they cover, it's usually because of differences in instrumentation.
I see u have a new way to avoid saying Nemophila. When we stood in line at the Echoplex a few days ago, I asked about this band...you replied "I'm constantly criticized on how to pronounce their name!" I enjoyed your solution. Hope to see your future comments on the Lovebites concert.
About the only aspect that put me off was the lead vocalist was too staccato. Hearing others attempting to replicate Su's vocal style makes you appreciate how good she is.
No disrespect for Nemophila, but to me those cover versions are proof of how good a job BABYMETAL are doing, especially when it comes to the vocals. The pig squeals are a nice touch, though.
@@RattyAlphabet OK it's you're taste even if I think you're the only one. The tone is a bit flat, Mayu's interpretation is ok but not exceptionnal and I think Hazuki is a great guitar player but let's be honest here, she hasn't have the Dimebag's touch.
I can't imagine any BABYMETAL fans having a problem with Nemophila - and they did a really good job with their cover.
Apparently all the fox masks, BABYMETAL towels, t-shirts etc are from Saki's personal collection - she is a big BABYMETAL fan.🦊
Mayu actually doing the harsh vocals instead of them being playback is what puts this version over the top for me.
I prefer it because Mayu screams where Su isn’t allowed to. The song wakes up after that point. Love it.
A important point that was overlooked. I dont believe Su even if allowed could scream & growl close to the level of Mayu.
Nice Haraguchi-san was acknowledged on how good of bassist she is. Most of the time (excluding live shows) people focus on the other band members.
Excellent cover by Nemophila. This is the only babymetal cover I ever come back to because it's so good.
I love how you clip in Nemophila saying their name! 😁
Great reaction, thanks for giving it a listen, glad you enjoyed it. Thanks to everyone who voted for it as well! Did you notice they even had the same hair styles as BM? Only the lead singer had a ponytail while the others had twintails.
👍👍Excellent cover by Nemophila of a classic BABYMETAL song. 🖖❤
I think you were spot on 100%. Su's vocals are my more favored but Mayu lifted pretty well getting a close second in the 2nd half with the actual screams.

I love it :) I often watch the drum cam version that is on Tamu's channel

Hearing a Babymetal cover have such cool screams makes me excited to see how Babymetal themselves will utilise Momo's harsh vocals
Love Nemophila.

Su tune is better, is more powerful, BUT, i love this screaming
SAKI !!! 🎸🔥🤘
Did you notice that Mayu had the Ponytail like SU, and the other 2 girls got pigtails like Yui and Moa? 😄
I don't think I have ever heard of a Babymetal fan having an issue with this cover. It is one of the best.
I miss Saki 😭

Some of their covers worked for me and some didn't. This one worked. 😁

hey david could you please react to their first song after Saki left called Nemophila GOD official music video thanks great reaction
You liked this cover better than the original?😨 That is... heresy! 😁
I recently watched an amazing jazz cover of Gimme Chocolate, by PostmodernJukebox. Do you have it in the queue?
Didn't I already react to it?
Good
BabyMetal “crucified” Su live on stage on her 16th birthday, I don’t think burning some reactor at the stake would bother them much!!!!!

Seeing Babymetal in the title, of course I came straight away 😹

Not going to lie I prefer most of nemophilas covers to the originals, for example their cover of walk rips.
the Pantera cover ?
@@sebastienlangonnet8852 yes, it's a hot take but I also prefer their cover of Shimi by Maximum the Hormone over the original.
