Best bassist in my opinion, if he wasn’t such a weirdo Primus would so much bigger then they are and thank God they weren’t like everyone else. Some of the wildest shows I’ve ever been too. Their last one that I got to go to was a Willy wonka themed and it was crazy
@@JasonVeisberg I’d argue Les being normal would’ve actually made them less big than they ended up being, because they wouldn’t have had any of their charm or uniqueness
Claypool is the GoaT. Check out his side projects. Duo de Twang, Oysterhead, Frog Brigade, Colonel Claypool's Bucket of Bernie's Brains, Fancy Band, Bastard Jazz... might still be missing a couple.
Primus is a quirky trio w/ the bass being the lead instrument in the music, courtesy of bassist/ vocalist Les Claypool (who composed and performed the 'South Park' theme) ... Claypool had formed Primus in the mid-80's in California and recorded an oddball demo tape titled 'Sausage'... However, Primus was as weird a band as they could be... and they didn't fit in the scene at the time, between the 80's 'hair' bands and the thrash metal bands... When Primus played the clubs, patrons would become irate and start chanting, "Primus sucks!" That became the band's calling card... 😂 By 1989, Primus was comprised of Claypool, guitarist Larry LaLonde and drummer Tim 'Herb' Alexander... and no record label would sign them... The band decided to record a live set of their songs and released the tapes independently as their debut album - 'Suck on this'. An indie label opted to fund a Primus studio album and the band released 'Frizzle Fry' in 1990 before they signed to Interscope Records in 1991... Their next album 'Sailing the seas of cheese' in 1991 got an unexpected boost from MTV and the growing 'alternative rock' scene... Primus had their videos for Tommy the cat'... and 'Jerry was a race car driver' on cable TV and the record would sell gold in the US. Primus scored a bigger record in 1993 - 'Pork soda'... MTV again promoted their videos for - 'My name is Mud' ... 'DMV' ... 'Mr. Krinkle'... Their 1995 album 'Tales from the punch bowl'... yielded their biggest MTV single - "Winona's big brown beaver". Unfortunately, a weary Tim Alexander left the band in 1996... he was replaced by drummer Brian 'Brain' Mantia. 2 subsequent Primus albums failed to generate record sales... 'The Brown album' (1997) had the singles - 'Shake hands with beef'... 'Over the falls'... 'Anti Pop' (1999) had the single 'Lacquer head'... Drummer Brain left Primus in 2000 and the band went on hiatus. In 2003, Primus reunited w/ drummer Tim Alexander to tour again (Les Claypool kept busy with other projects like Oysterhead, Frog Brigade, Bucket of Bernie Brains, etc.) until 2006. Primus finally released a new album 'Green naugahyde' in 2011 w/ Jay Lane on drums (who was the original Primus drummer)... and were on tour until 2013. In 2014, Primus announced the album 'Primus & the Chocolate factory'... as a tribute to the 'Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory' movie (Tim Alexander was on drums again) and followed up w/ a new album 'The desaturating seven' in 2017. Primus has been actively touring in 2024.
I've seen Les claypoo,Stu hamm and many more great Bass players. I would put them as number one and number two and then Flea after that I've seen him too. You like good bass players check out Jaco pastorius he created jazz fusion bass.
Primus SUCKS! I think it was '94 the first time I was introduced to these guys and I've loved them ever since. Les is an absolute cartoon character come to life. This is one of the few tracks from them that I can almost play.
Tripping on acid and watching these dudes with a trip you need to look at Red Hot Chili Peppers Sir Psycho Sexy I know everybody wants you to listen to something❤
Too many people suggesting My Name is Mud. While a very well known song, it's technically one of Primus worst songs. What I mean by that, it's literally not very technical or complicated. This song also does very little to showcase their actual talent. Basically every album is good. Their older stuff would probably be better to start off on. Seas of Cheese, Frizzle Fry, Tales from the Punchbowl, Porksoda, Antipop. This song is from the Brown Album, which has a lot of bangers on it, but it's also not their much more talented OG drummer. These three don't take themselves too seriously, but they are three of the most talented and creative musicians on the planet. They've been around since the 80's and have a huge back catalog that is worth listening to. As others have suggested, check out Tommy the Cat. Both the Seas of Cheese version and the Rhinoplasty version. Also, from a lesser known album called Highball with the Devil, listen to The Awakening. He didn't write it, but it's a joy to listen to him play. It really showcases his talent.
Les Claypool is a legend. Check out "My Name is Mud" or "Jerry was a Race Car Driver". Their live performances are epic.
The more Primus you hear in your life, the better
"shake hands with beef" was a phrase Les Claypool's mostly vegetarian friend used to describe his occasional meat consumption.
“Toys go winding down”
“Too many puppies”
both slap.
les claypool is a wickedly talented bassist

Les is the only person in rock with the position of “lead bass”
@@JasonVeisberg I’d argue Les being normal would’ve actually made them less big than they ended up being, because they wouldn’t have had any of their charm or uniqueness
You need to listen to Primus -Tommy the cat it really show his bass skills
Listen to the Bonaroo 2011 version
Yes! More PRIMUS please!!!
Yay! I'm here for more Primus, they're weird AF but always fun
Southbound pachyderm
Claypool us a hoot and great bassist. Good buddies with Tool. Primus just played live with Maynard James Keenan celebrating 60th birthday of MJK.
Just saw them with Maynard in Michigan last week. Soooo good
Mugnify, Primus are The Residents.
Claypool is the GoaT. Check out his side projects. Duo de Twang, Oysterhead, Frog Brigade, Colonel Claypool's Bucket of Bernie's Brains, Fancy Band, Bastard Jazz... might still be missing a couple.
@@I_AM_BAYTOR sausage is another good one
Hey this is my homies I wish I would have saw this live My Name Is Mud Harry Was a Race Car Driver would have been good
Primuseth sucketh👊🏽⚡️One of the funnest bands ever. Gotta check out the song, ‘Tommy the cat’ live. {Bass omnipresence.}
I named my son after Les Claypool, he's a master. Any Primus is a banger, you can't go wrong.
You should react to Primus performing "Tommy The Cat" live at Bonnaroo 2011. It. Is. Awesome!
Check out more! You’ll love it.
After watching this, I really have to question what family cook-outs were like at the Claypool residence.
Preemus rawks.
My 1st time seeing this. Are those guys flys on a trashcan? Ha ha
Wynona has a big brown beaver is a cool song you should check out along with my name is mud
Jerry was a race car driver is mind bending.
Tommy the cat
Les Claypool is a bass god...and he is funny. Primus rocks! They do have better tracks and Les has multiple side projects.
I can definately hear " I love rock n roll"
Other bass players visit planet funk, Les Claypool lives there
highlight "shake hands with beef", right click, search web - released 1997
The bass on My Name is Mud, is legendary, also side note, Yelawolf did a remix to My Name is Mud, really good remix
Mr. krinkle is fire, and so is Tommy, the cat
These drums...oufff
Check out Lacquerhead by Primus next!
The song is about a friend of his who is a vegetarian that occasionally eats meat meaning shaking hands with beef
I always thought it was about the things he did in his teens. One of those things being masterb8ing ‘shake hands with beef’
@@Johnnyhotrockets I learned it was about a fiend of his who was a vegetarian but ocassionally partook on the consumption of animal products
I just looked down the list I missed all kinds of stuff I'm not getting notified
Yeah, Paulette I don't know what's going on with the channel and notifications right now, I definitely gotta speak to someone
I'm not getting any notifications either

"Wynonna's big brown beaver" but the best is "Mr Krinkle"
Bassists that are also lead singers are a rare thing. Try Morphine, Floater, or Rush, depending on what you're into. :)
Top ten bassist of the world

he has worked with Bootsy Collins a lot.
Songs about eatin' amminals. Or factory farming. 🤷♂️ '97
DMV and the entire Pork Soda album is underrated imo
1998 The Brown Album
You hearing southpark😂

Primus is BA
Their entire catalog is led by the bass. That’s the whole thing about Primus. They Suck!
The drummer has John Bonham wired.
This is who em was talking about...probably just cuz they are different
Pretty sure they got together in 84 or 85
Long "I" dude!
I've never heard anyone compare Primus to Joan Jett 🤣🤣
such a good bassist metallica even turned him down for their musical style as he had more potential than what metallica used bass for
Tripping on acid and watching these dudes with a trip you need to look at Red Hot Chili Peppers Sir Psycho Sexy I know everybody wants you to listen to something❤
C'mon u guys!? A man of NINE n shake hands w/beef!?? lol.....maybe its just me? ahem lol
I think all the best rock music is bass-driven, maybe even all the best music. It’s a more interesting instrument than guitar.

Did you just compare Primus to Joan Jett? XD
Les was told by Metallica that he was too good to be in Metallica
Primus Sucks 🤘
The lyrics are wrong on the chorus, its "puff Tijuana smoke" Les is a huge pot head lol
