Fun Facts: This was featured in the video game Guitar Hero II. It also shows up in the 2007 South Park episode "Guitar Queer-o." Primus did the theme song for the show. -The music video was directed by Mark Kohr, who also did Green Day's "Basket Case" and No Doubt's "Just A Girl." It shows the band playing on a fishing boat, with some animation and puppets mixed in. Kirk Hammett from Metallica, who is good friends with Les Claypool, is one of the guys on the boat.
This is part of the trilogy of songs "fisherman chronicles " Fish On (Fisherman Chronicles, Chapter II) and The Ol’ Diamondback Sturgeon (Fisherman’s Chronicles, Part 3) part 3 is one of my favorite songs
Trilogy, huh? Then how do you account for "Last Salmon Man" (Fisherman's Chronicles, Part IV) on Green Naugahyde? Is "The Last Salmon" Primus's "The Last Jedi"?
Oh Primus. It's amazing how different they can sound, yet same at the same time. Some songs I personally love and would recommend is "Bob", "Antipop", "Greet the Sacred Cow" and "Jilly's on Smack". That last one especially has such a unique atmosphere...like space whales singing to you.
And if you want to hear a great Primus instrumental with a CLEAN HIP-HOP BEAT and some killer SCRATCHING,...check out their song "Silly Putty" off the Rhinoplasty album.......as hip hop heads yall will love it. Even if it doesn't make the channel, take 4 and a half mins and listen to it before you leave the studio.....you'll be glad you did!!✌️
One of the things I love about Primus is the way the Les' bass is the lead instrument and it frees up Ler to just go crazy on his guitar. There's a lot of songs where Ler is basically just freestyling weird shit the entire time.
Primus *LOVE* fishing. Their first 3 full length albums feature 'The Fisherman Chronicles'. This is part 1, "Fish On" & "The Ole Diamondback Sturgeon" are parts 2 & 3. 😁 Other songs about people include "Harold of the Rocks'... "Dels Tree Farm" ...etc I just saw Primus a week ago (for the umpteenth time 😁). They continue to evolve, and have embraced the jam band scene lately 😊
I love that you guy"s get them and are aware of how talented they are!! Les has a wicked sense of humor which makes their music so infectous once you open up to their unique ways. This song is 🔥🔥🔥
Another Primus song about fishing...."Fish On".......off the Sailing The Seas Of Cheese album.......which tells a true story of when the band went fishing.✌️
If you search on TH-cam for ""Primus ft. Trey Parker & Matt Stone - South Park Theme (Live @ South Park 25th - Red Rocks, 8/9/22)" you can hear the story of how the South Park theme song was created.
Always appreciate these good reactions! ALSO, what are the odds I can get a reaction for my birthday?? Know you guys love Cradle of Filth, and would love to see your reaction to Twisted Nails of Faith. IMO, it’s their best song from their best album, Cruelty and the Beast.
Been a Primus fans since the beginning. Was watching MTV back in the day when Jerry was a race car driver premiered. Their sound captivated me and never looked back. Les is a beast on the bass and glad he never joined Metallica.
I was born a few years after the cutoff for Gen X. It was in 2005, I was 19, and I picked up the Brown Album from a used record store for a road trip (Chicago to Dallas) - had really only heard one song from them before that. We were all so awe struck by just how good that album was, we stopped at a Best Buy somewhere around the southern border of Missouri and bought Sailing the Seas of Cheese and Tales From the Punch Bowl.
Just subscribed to your channel just because I think you guys are cool. I'm 70 years old and you remind me of my younger self. By the way I love spam. And yes I love pets and animals of all kind. Yes dogs are very perceptive. I'm not a huge Primus fan myself but I do like this and the songs you guys mentioned. Will be checking out your reactions every day.
Ok, so... Check out the South Park 25th Anniversary concert. It's Primus and Ween with Matt and Trey, performing a bunch of songs from South Park. They also tell the story of the theme song. Primus did make an appearance in the Chef Aid episode. Primus isn't necessarily comedic, it's that Les writes really witty lyrics. They actually refused to play Wynona for a long, long time because it caused people to think that they were nothing but a comedy act. The song was inspired by an actual tragedy at sea. There was a terrible storm and a fishing vessel sank. They played the audio from it on the news and that's where Les got the line "oh my god, we're going down".
Saludos
Primus was more influenced by Rush... as well as 70's funk... They were never into punk rock (as far as I know)... A fusion of progressive rock and funk... and their lyrics are more satirical than comedic. I think the characters Les Claypool created were more from the imagination than from personal experiences... the same way Judas Priest created their song characters ('Metal Gods'... 'The Sentinel'... 'Painkiller' ... 'Electric Eye'... 'Jugulator'... etc.)... Primus has these wacky characters that sometimes meet tragic fates (Jerry the race car driver... 'John the fisherman'... 'Sergeant Baker' ... Winona ... 'Bob' ... Professor Nutbutter... "Mrs. Blaileen"... Ambrose from 'Fisticuffs'... etc.)
Ren asked on twitter who he should collaborate with, i told him Primus 😊. He was totally down with that lol. He said " lets make it happen" or close enough lol. Would love to see it. 2 of my faves
Dogs know things. We had an Aussie, which are amazing dogs. She’d bark at new people at first but she’d usually trust them pretty quickly. Except this one guy my family had over, she barked at this dude the entire time he was there. That was the only time it ever happened, and it was hilarious because she just stood there and barked at this dude for like a fucking hour. It never happened with anyone else and I’m going to wonder for the rest of my life why she just hated this one dude.
Pause the video at 6:55 and in the bottom right corner you see the guy in the blue and white plaid with the sun glasses?? That's kirk hammett from Metallica. Kirk and les went to highschool together.
Look up south park 25th anniversary show. The guys from south park perform with primus and ween. I went to that show at red rocks in Colorado and it was was amazing!
Primus Sucks! You guys should check out thier cover of Charlie Daniels Band's The Devil Went Down to Georgia, Terrible video too 🤘🖤😎 My pets are Everything!! My love for them has most definitely saved my life, and I've been babysitting other people's pets since I was 10 or 11 🐕🦺🧡🐈 Edt.. I think you guys are spot on, Les just likes to tell stories about people that he knows, Wynnona was a real person who actually did have a beaver LOL it just happens to be the best double meaning ever, and he does a song for his friend who ended his own life called Bob, not terribly sappy not over the top comedic just right in the middle perfectly Primus tribute for his friend...
I feel like you guys were made to listen to a Peelingflesh track, make a move and 211/187, they have some new stuff out too now but, think heavy slam metal with memphis rap, it's insane and a new growing genre
Hey guys y'all have mentioned before on bands with big city or state names please check out Atlanta rhythm section 70s music at its best I would do the song spooky first.
Primus sucks! Just saw them last Sat! Lovem! Mr.Krinkle, Too many puppies, Pablo’s hippos(with Maynard), over the electric grapevine are some I recommend 💯🤘🔥

Spent many hours listening to this. My sons played it to death lol It's a great song.
Les is a big-time fisherman.
They were on South Park, under the episode called chef aid
GH 2 is how i found out about primus and slipknot lmfaooo
Sailing The Seas Of Cheese from 1991 are a phenomenal album.
Yes it are
Two more great Primus songs are "Mr. Krinkle" and "Here Come the Bastards"...
"Mr Krinkle" the ultimate PRIMUS story. 💯
That is my ring tone. Love that song!!
The video is crazy and one take.
Tell me why
@@danbardos3498 Good one, that's seriously funny. Hope they hit that one cause the video is beyond crazy and it's a GREAT SONG.
My favorite Primus song is Southbound Pachyderm.
@@paulhaire3982 they did an AMAZING version of this at Sessanta, with a 3 way drum jam with Tim, Gunnar from Puscifer, and Josh Freese from APC
My favorite song too, first song I taught myself on bass too 🤘

Trilogy, huh? Then how do you account for "Last Salmon Man" (Fisherman's Chronicles, Part IV) on Green Naugahyde? Is "The Last Salmon" Primus's "The Last Jedi"?
There is a south park episode about the kids playing John the Fisherman on guitar hero
Metallica's guitarist Kirk Hammett has a cameo in the video. He in fact turns and faces the camera
Oh Primus. It's amazing how different they can sound, yet same at the same time.

Ler is highly underrated and has a sharp sense of humor, humble guy
12:41 I don't know about one dedicated to Primus but the episode "Scott Tenorman Must Die" featured Radiohead
Check out American Life - killer song that tells a story with much more gravity
Primus *LOVE* fishing. Their first 3 full length albums feature 'The Fisherman Chronicles'. This is part 1, "Fish On" & "The Ole Diamondback Sturgeon" are parts 2 & 3. 😁

Primus used to do interviews on a boat while fishing. Is probably on TH-cam somewhere.
@@vulgarprophet2689 my buddy used to mate a charter boat, and we took Les and Ler striper fishing in the Chesapeake Bay back in like 97-98
My favorite Primus tune. A very close second would be "Too Many Puppies" , Both songs are playlist for me
"Too many puppies"

Morning guys! I love Primus! You can't help but to get moving listenin to Primus! Their songs are so catchy! He's so natural with that bass!!❤️🤓👍
I love the videos y'all
You should definitely check out the band Possessed,it featured this bands guitarist Larry LaLonde when he just 15 years old
There's a bunch of Primus songs about fishing. It's kind of a theme of theirs. "Fish On" being my favorite and a rather progressive Primus song.
Always appreciate these good reactions!

SPAM is an acronym for SPiced HAm.
I love how happy this song makes everybody
Gotta say you both are rockin awesome t-shirt! Especially love Smokey's! "Learn to swim, see you down in Arizona bay!"
Bootsy Collins just recently released a new track called Pure Perfection.
This is my favorite song on a boat
Les is also a hell of a Fly fishing guy plus he makes baits
Fun Reaction! Great side project - Claypool Lennon Delirium. Great covers of King Crimson and early Floyd.
One of their most underlooked 😎❤🤙
The inventor of the slap bass technique is Larry Graham of Sly & The Family Stone. Yet another Bay Area music legend!
This is the one Primus song I haven't heard yet. This song kicks that ass.😊🎉❤
By far my favorite Primus song.

That's kirk hammett from Metallica.
Kirk and les went to highschool together.
This is such a good tune.
Les Claypool and Bootsy Collins both had stints playing with Buckethead on guitar. You should check that dude out.
Look up south park 25th anniversary show. The guys from south park perform with primus and ween. I went to that show at red rocks in Colorado and it was was amazing!
Frizzle Fry is an amazing album. My favorite Primus album,. BTW Tim Herb Alexander is a god tier drummer.
Yeah in this band people forget about the guitar, but the guitar and drums are also both amazing if you listen.
I put them in the funk metal.😊 funny thing is my mom's original last name is mud. 😂😂😂😂 luckily I got to carry on my dad's last name instead.
Never thought I'd be THIS early

It's the Gorton's Fisherman... not Gordon guys 😉😉
Looking at their overall career (not just their commercial peak in the early 90's), and I'd categorize them as Prog (Progressive Rock) Funk
Smoke dogs Arizona Bay shirt is TOOL inspired and Adam Jones did the puppet mom of John for this video.
Lacquer Head has a good claymation video to it. 🍻🤘
Looking at Les, especially back in the day, easy to forget he’s from Cali and not Appalachia.
Great reaction! Please check out Antipop next.
